Music inspires me and it uplifts me, it get me through life’s challenges. At the moment is Solid Rock, sung by Tasha Cobbs and Jamie Grace, is my go to song. I like to play it over and over, and every time I hear the lyrics, “Solid, my solid rock. You are solid, my solid rock” it does something to my spirit. If those were all the words in the song that would be fine with me. Everyone goes through some sort of trial whether it is financial, relational, or health. When I listen to the song it gives me an assurance that God’s got my back and I can lean on Him. Not only do I find assurance in the song it moves me to tears of praise. Here’s a quick story, that kind of goes along with the theme of adversity, and depending on Jesus. I am
I think music has a way of explaining something or telling a story. Music can bring up happy times, it can also bring up sad times as well. Certain songs can remind someone of troubling issues from a past, can be the reminder of someone you have lost, it can also be a reminder of many happy times; such as weddings, high school dances, or even just hanging out with friends in the back
We observed a series of skits that exhibited the attributes of Jesus. During the final skit, while we were sitting inside the K-Life gym, a black curtain dropped and we saw three men hanging from crosses. The men looked as if they had taken baths in blood, and they were struggling to speak and breathe; the man on the middle cross portrayed Jesus. The skit continued to act out the entirety of the crucifixion and the presence of the Holy Spirit was prominent in the room. I was astonished when I realized that He suffered and died on the cross for a person as broken and sinful as me. After the skit was over, Joe slowly walked out to speak to everyone who had just watched the simulated crucifixion. He revealed to us how undeserving we are of God’s grace, and how Jesus died for every person that has ever lived. He continued on with his disquisition and we eventually began to worship. At this point in time I had begun to pray to Jesus, that he would take over my life and use me in a way that glorifies him. I did not know what this would look like, but I desired to be a living example of a man of God.
Growing up, life wasn't easy. As a result of these adversities, I've been able to not only see, but personally experience, having a constant battle in my life. Throughout this journey of life, I’ve had the opportunity to meet people and learn about different backgrounds and hardships many others suffer from. These experiences,
Music is a large consumption of my daily life and the artists I listen to have shaped me in some way. Listening to music is one of my most time
Secular music has been a metaphoric gift of personal expression for me. I started playing piano and taking lessons when I was 10. I started off with learning the basics, and as I got more advanced, I would play more complexed pieces. My favorite piano piece is Primavera by Ludovico Einaudi. To me this is a minimalistic piece and it allows me to lose myself in the song when I need to get my mind off of things and disconnect from the world. Another good thing about playing the piano is by knowing chords, a person can compose any music piece that expresses how they are feeling. Another song that is quite popular now days that represents the metaphoric gift of personal expression is 1-800-273-8255 by Logic. This song is about a person who struggles with their sexuality and calls the suicide prevention hotline expressing how they want to die. The person offering the emotional support then beings saying that they do not have to die today, and by the end of the song the caller is determined to keep fighting. This song has given me the gift of personal expression when I am sad. It shows me that even though many people are sad or struggling, there is always so many resources that are there to help them. It also reminds me to never give up and to keep
There are various types of music and it’s a unique word with countless meanings. Music is simply defined as the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity, vocal, instrumental, or mechanical sounds having rhythm, melody or harmony (www.merrium-Webster.com). Even though I enjoy listening to a diversity of musical selections by numerous artists, the music that inspires me the most is GOSPEL music. To me, gospel music or music in general, is a melody that consists of a linear sequence of tones and harmony. The power of music with the expression of tempo and rhythm, can inspire, entertain and change the mood of an individual. Nevertheless, not only is the tempo crucial, but the lyrics play a major role in whether I like the song or not.
driving force of my life. I consider music an undying art, that requires a different way of
Also I feel like I don’t really relate to the lyrics themselves because I’m not a country girl and I’m not really a fan of trucks. Unfortunately I do not participate in any musical activates because I do not know how to play any instruments; except, for the recorder that I learned in 5th grade. When I say I know how to play the recorder I mean I only know how to play three cords of Mary had A Little Lamb. As you can see that’s not much of a musical talent. I have always thought the piano was such a beautiful instrument to play, but I was never able to fully understand the different keys and symbols. I also can’t sing or dance, the only hobby I was partially good at was playing soccer and refereeing soccer. Music to me can be anything that has a beat or tone, which is partially right and partially wrong. I have learned that calling an Islamic prayer a song is very disrespectful even if it has a beat or tone; it has a specific religious meaning to many people. Many people will and can preserve different things as music, this is what helps us find our identity. It show us what makes us unique and similar to others at the same
Music is one of the most fantastical forms of entertainment. Its history stretches all the way from the primitive polyrhythmic drums in Africa to our modern day pop music we listen to on our phones. It has the ability to amaze us, to capture our attention and leave us in awe. It soothes the hearts of billions, and it is so deeply rooted in my life that it has touched my heart as well. Everyday I walk to the beat of the song stuck in my head and hum along to the melody. For me, to listen to music be lifted into the air by the hands of your imagination and float around for a while. You forget about your worries, your troubles and find peace within the sound. Every chapter in my life is attached with a song. Every time I listen to a certain song, thoughts of my past come flooding back
Throughout my life, music has always been a major influence. It has the power to change my mood when I'm feeling down, but the thing I find most intriguing about music is that it doesn't always end up improving your mood: like all forms of art, it imitates life, which is not always portrayed in a positive light. The musicians that I admire most have the versatility to induce several different emotional responses in the same piece. This quality is present in most of the wide variety of music I listen to, from Russian composer Dmiti Shostakovich, to Chicago jazz band Tortoise, to California pop/rock sextet Mr. Bungle.
Music is the third most important thing to me in life outside of god and my mom. Music keeps me balanced. Every since I was a baby music was played around me. Jazz was always played around me to soothe me. There would be times when I would be really hyper acting like I couldn't sleep, my mom would put on some jazz and I would be fine. A lot of times I can have a long chore and I say to my self how can I accomplish this, Knowing it will take me forever. So I'll put on some jazz music and in twenty-five minutes I'm finished.
Testimonies of how you stayed faithful even when times were tough. Moments you will be able to look back and be thankful to God for them. Those moments will increase your faith and you will be able to trust God because of what happened in the past. Your testimonies are great to edify yourself but even better to edify other people. Using your experience, you will be able to encourage people in their relationship with God. If we look at Daniel in the Bible, we know that he was a good man who feared God, yet God allowed him to be sentenced to death in a lion’s den. Daniel was saved by God so it’s hard to call it a suffering, but still we see that God used this situation to show his might to the king Darius and his nation –“I issues a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. For he is the living God and he endures forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end. He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.” Dave Earley says it so well, “God’s ultimate plan behind all of His activities on this planet is to present humanity with a clear testimony of who He truly is and what He
When I first heard the song “I Believe,” by Christina Perri, something inside me clicked, causing a chain reaction of memories and events in my life that led up to each new day flood through my mind. Every word flew into my heart and reminded me of the good times and the bad times I might have never reconsidered to think of in my life. This song didn’t only describe me, it enhanced my understanding of others, sewing the fabrics of my life into a beautiful harmony that I had failed to fully understand. I believe that all the pain that we as people have felt in our lives has only made us stronger, and the deeper meaning in this song helped me realize more about myself and of those around me.
Music is like a literature. It can enlighten, please, and it can even be life-changing. It can affect us in a way where it can emotionally lift our mood depending on which genre that we listen. Popular genres such as Hip Hop, Classical, and Contemporary R&B. Music benefits in feeling amazing along with motivating you and not being in an emotional state. Music helps us in different ways, in terms of keeping us feeling good.
Today's Gospel reading shows us that the Lord is with us through times of trial… or when the storms of life get to be too much to handle. Whether He calms the storm as he did for the disciples, or asks us to let him walk through the storm with us, as Paul talks of in 2 Corinthians, or gives us the strength to fight against it, as He did for David while up against Goliath; he is always with us. He does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.
