Software piracy is a major problem, mainly to the businesses that develop and market software on a global scale. Software piracy is illegal copying or redistribution of software that doesn’t belong to you. Illegal copying of software is called piracy. You might be thinking, why does this affect me? It’s recorded that “52 percent of UK SMB’s have bought or downloaded illegal software” [1]. This means that even businesses have start to pirate software which is even worse than having people pirate from home. Conclusion Software piracy is an illegal practice that can have benefits but at the same time it has its negatives. From the reasons listed above I have found out that this can be hard for the end user to not pirate software, because it simply costs too much according to a report on the internet [3]. But at the same time you can’t say that software is expensive because you have to take into consideration the developers that have spent hundreds of hours building the software. If companies want to battle software piracy then they will need to start by setting up a DRM (Digital rights management), after they have this enforcement in place then they can start setting up DRM strategies that will protect their company and its products against software piracy. Software piracy also has its economic arguments against software piracy, because companies are losing profit and when they lose profit they can’t invest in themselves, which then brings the company downhill and on its way down jobs are being lost which causes the unemployment rate to slightly
