Some people believe that softball is just the femal version of baseball. This is not true. Although baseball and softball have many similarities, such as the feild and overall concept, they have many differences too. For example the pitching form. These next few paragraphs will outline some of the similarities and differences between the two sports.

Baseball and softball have the same overall concept. There are two teams. Nine players are allowed on the feild at one time. The postions are the same, such as pitcher, catcher, short-stop, and on and on. Each game uses innings. Another difference between the sports is the bat. In softball the maximum length of a bat is 34 in. Also the bat is much slimmer compared to a baseball bat, whose maximum length is 43 in. The ball used in softball has a circumference of about 12 in. In baseball the ball used has a circumference of about 9 in.

In baseball the regular amount of innings is nine. In softball the regular amount of innings is seven. If at the end of these amount of innings both teams are tied, both baseball and softball games would go into extra innings. The difference being that in baseball the extra inning are exactly the same as a regular inning, but in softball, starting in the eighth inning, the offensive team begins the inning with the ninth hitter in the batting order placed on second base.
