Conformity In the article “The sociology of leopard man” the author makes an argument, in paragraph 6 the author stated “To be a human is to be an individual human, with individual tastes, talents, values, and inspirations that are distins from those of others. Living in society, we are under constant pressure to surrender our individuality to the will of majority, the school, the workplace, the family, etc.” In my opinion with the statement the author is making, I agree with her complete. People will usually change to fit in places they usually don’t fit in, this is the effect of people looking down on them making them feel vulnerable. Ordinary people fear what they don’t comprehend. It’s commonly known as “Individuality” also takes a big part in your daily life. Physically, you don’t depend on society and society doesn’t depends on you. In addition of extreme tattooing and piercings doesn’t only mean you did it to fit in your social statue, right, instead you make that decision and change because you feel comfortable with it not based in what the world would say. Individuality doesn't mean you spend it mean independent. There is no place you would be judge. In paragraph 9 the author states “One can enjoy the benefits modern society offers without becoming dependent on society. But it takes a strong will.” A good example we have is Leopard Man known for the fact that he is tattooed from head to toe with leopard spots. “Lacks the psychological strength to stand on his own within society, simply he doesn’t find any value in society”p.9. He is an individual person he doesn’t care what people say. He lives to be comfortable with himself not to comfort society. Another statement the author makes based on this is “I think one can be part of society and attain happiness or shun it completely and attain happiness. Or, like me, one can do both” You can be happy depending on society or being an Individual
