Social Media Addiction
Many teens, young adults, and even adults are faced with social media addiction. Do people realize this addiction is a serious problem or is it just simply ignored because it is considered as a “hobby”? These things cannot be ignored especially when it is considered a habit. Social media may have not been looked at as a problem when social networking sites were coming out to the public, but today it is very clear that more people are becoming dependent on social networking sites. It seems as if nowadays everyone has a Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or Instagram account. It is the norm for the 21st century and it is how people communicate and network today. People log on different social networking sites numerous times a day. Some people argue social media is a hobby, and it is only a habit that is not considered dangerous. Today’s social media has grown quickly and as it spreads more people are becoming addicted and not focused on what really matters in the outside world.
It is evident that social media is transferring the way people socialize and though it has several advantages there are many drawbacks. According to the Pew foundation, social network users are 14 percent more likely than non-users to characterize their lives at least “somewhat stressful”. Non-users, conversely, are 28 percent more likely that users to say their lives are “not at all” stressful. It is clear there is a relation between social media and stress.
Social media is one of the fastest and easiest ways people learn about new fashion trends, the latest music, movies, and other products. Basically, people on social media influence each other. People who say social media influences the product they buy “a lot” are 45 percent more likely ...

For this reason, it is true social media can lead to insanity. The overnight popularity, negative exposure, rude comments and the fact how cruel and hateful people can be especially online can drive anyone insane. Given these points, The Gold brothers Joel, a psychiatrist at New York University, and Ian, a philosopher and psychiatrist at McGill University are investigating technology’s potential to sever people’s ties with reality, fueling hallucinations, delusions, and genuine psychosis, much as it seemed to do in the case of Jason Russell (Dokoupil.) Under those circumstances, I think it is unfortunate that there is nothing done about this. At the end of day, social media is still ours to shape.
