Communication has always been an important factor for humans. From the early ages of life, people have always been searching for easier ways to communicate with one another. As new social media networks are introduced, communication is becoming more accessible and convenient. People are fascinated with the fact of sharing ideas, opinions, and staying connected with such an availability. But with so much influence of social media in our daily lives, America is experiencing a great cultural change. Subconsciously, one-to-one communication is suffering a social suicide. While social media networks have many benefits, they also has many disadvantageous effects. This new cyber era we live in has created many new challenges.
Introduction to the internet first appeared in 1969. Compuserve was the first major internet provider. It played a major role as dial-up communication up until the mid-1990s. Making communication more accessible, internet technology quickly began advancing. By 1997, blogging began; AOL allowed users to chat, and Blackboard was founded. Not only now could people communicate instantly, but scholars and professors could have out of class communication online. Soon big social media networks began their launch into the world wide web. MySpace made its hit in 2008 and just a year later Facebook came along. Facebook's great impact made 2009 one of the most important years for social media. Overall, Social media networks have impacted the American culture and presented very critical challenges. Social media networks are a great tool people have, and would not be as harming if each individual knew how to use them efficiently. Everything in excessive is bad, but when used in moderation and efficiently can bring many rewards. One of the most important aspects social media has provided to humans is the facilitated access to communicate to one another. But with the overwhelming advancements in social media, people are becoming disorientated and slaves of these great communication resource. It is in each individual's responsibility to learn how to use social media to their benefit. Social media the so called “the doubled edged sword” can either greatly assist you or harm you. It is up to you to differentiate and control the power on which you use it.
