Social work is a profession that seeks to obtain and then link assistance that many individuals need to better their life. The social work profession also seeks to bring focus to the well-being of all individuals that struggle with different situations that are faced. Social workers pursue to find the resources within the community and organizations to work with the individual, families, and groups through theories such as the System’s Theory. The work for a social worker lies in the ability to acknowledge that each individual should be helped with outside resources as well as recognizing that factors that assist the individual also lie within the biological, psychological, sociological, cultural, spiritual, and familial subsystems. Though it may sound cliché, Social Work is a practice created and fulfilled by individuals who are called to help others. Obtaining my MSW will allow me to open my focus within the field to continue to work within the area of children and adolescents, which is a lightly chartered area for me. My employment opportunities have allowed me to work within a local treatment facility with adults fin the area of treatment, starting with the detoxification process until inpatient or outpatient programming. I was also employed as the Program Manager for a Reentry Program (halfway house) in which I worked with women with drug addiction, mental health, and criminal history that were completing their time served within the federal and state Criminal Justice System.
