Personal Statement for Valdosta State University Being sexually abused as a child had such an effect on me, and after a long process (Consider using more descriptive adjectives such as “lengthy process” to be more effective here) of forgiveness, acceptance, and while trying to make the best use of my existence whilst at the same time satisfying a need to give something back, I have chosen to continue my studies to become closer to my dream of being a licensed clinical social worker to achieve my goal of owning my own Non-profit therapeutic farm for (survivors?) victims of trauma living with (lifelong?) persistent mental illnesses. …show more content…
In order to take care of others, it is imperative that I practice self care, and put my emotional, mental, and physical needs on the priority list as well. During my graduate social work education, I expect to learn further how to work with diverse individuals within the agencies of which I am employed. Also, I anticipate acquiring the experience and obtain the skills needed to better serve current and future clients. My desire is to help individuals understand, and address their issues in a more positive manner. Once completing my MSW, I would like to provide services to survivors of sexual abuse that come from troubled homes as I did. Being that I am a sexual abuse survivor, I have a particular affinity towards other sexual abuse survivors because I can relate to their challenging situations and life long process of healing. I believe that this will help me connect with them accurately and more effectively. Aside from working with survivors of sexual abuse I have an interest in military social work, gerontology, public welfare, corrections and justice, community development, and international social work.( apparently I cant narrow these down LOL

This essay aims to explore the characteristics that make a good quality social work assessment in child care. Martin (2010) stated that there was “no single agreed definition of social work assessment.” Coulshed and Orme (2006, p24) did not offer a formal definition but they described assessment as “…a basis for planning what needs to be done to maintain, improve or bring about change in the person, the environment or both.” According to the Maclean and Harrison (2015) good assessments must be “purposeful and timely.” This is because practitioners need to be clear about why they are carrying out assessments and what it is they wish to achieve at the end of that assessment.

I am seeking an MSW at the Kent School of Social Work for the purpose of gaining education, experience, and required credentials in order to prepare me in working with clients with disabilities and their families. My interest persisted and grew as I began to see how my efforts had the ability to improve the lives of people around me. I first noticed this on a personal level as friends would come to me for advice or for me to listen to their struggles and provide comfort. No matter how mundane, horrific, unique, or common the story was, I listened to them in a genuine and non-judgmental manner. I truly enjoyed hearing people’s stories and providing comfort and advice when needed. These moments helped me realize the power of simply being there for someone, and it increased my interest of pursuing a career where I can support those who need it most. I want to become a social worker so I can provide direction to those who may not be able to get it from other sources, just like I have done for various people throughout my life.
Personal Statement Social work is a profession in which one can effect change, empower, and inspire others to reach their goals, change their perspectives and realize their fullest potential. My life goal is to dedicate my time to giving back to impoverished communities and those who have encountered insurmountable obstacles. I am a first generation college graduate, a head start graduate, former resident of the Marcos De Niza Housing projects in Phoenix, AZ, a person who has seen firsthand the effects of untreated mental illness, a person greatly impacted by suicide, a divorcee, a single mother, and a recipient of state benefits including Medicaid, nutrition and childcare assistance. It is important that the mental health practitioner is culturally competent and abides to the NASW Code of Conduct. Furthermore, each client is unique and their is no ''one size fits all'' approach. A social worker must accommodate each individual according to their own unique needs. Furthermore, the power of group therapy has been shown to be extremely effective. I may like to facilitate support groups in the future.
"Do not become a social worker. You will not make any money and you will be stressed out all the time." My maternal grandparents were foster care parents from the 1980 's until April of this year. In that time they hosted over 250 children from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. As a child, I spent much of my time at my grandparents house and was exposed to the multiple aspects of the foster care system. I became close with the social workers who came to my grandmother 's house and when it came time for me to make a career choice, they all discouraged me from becoming a social worker. Despite their warnings I graduated with my Bachelor 's of Social Work from Saint Louis University in 2013 and began to work on my Master 's in Social Work in August of 2014.

Personal Statement If you feed someone, his belly will be filled for one day but if you teach someone how to earn bread, he can fill his stomach throughout his life. I believe that education is the single most powerful tool for individual and social change. Search in thirst of knowledge made me experienced as travelling across India to understand the challenges of poor people. While growing up in the poor farmer family of backward rural India, I heard many stories from my uneducated parents about the problems with farming.
