I am a transfer student. This is my first year at California State University, Long Beach. My major is Human Development and minor Social Worker. This major has many categories because each professor has assigned him or her students to cooperate by volunteer or intern to get involve themselves future career. For example, human service 273 my professor required students interned or volunteered 30 hours to participate community service. The grade student got based on report by supervisor and evaluate by the clients. I chose Horizon Cross Cultural Center because I would work as small group's coworker. before I went out to meet real people. First, I went with my coworker at Welling Community Center where I was face to face with elderly, so I would learn in communication skills by listening to people sharing their struggle and isolate life.
This agency provides many activities to reconnect isolated older adults back into their community. The next day, I went by myself home visit or I link them to community, but first, I needed to review all these files before I met them, so I knew what the next stepped to follow. For example, Mr. and Mrs. H told me their background that they lived rural of east Vietnam. They were very poor and limited knowledge of writing and reading skill. Their job was solving super lottery ticket to support their children. The problem was when they came to American Mr. H had stroke after few years, in addition they did not have support emotion and fiscal from their children, so they moved to California where they could get help by community. Both did not know how to take a bus to go supermarket, doctor office or else. After listening what they said, I encouraged participates more active go out rather stay home. I refer them to new freedom car and help them fill out the application. This program helped low-income people more independent to go out themselves. I also link Mr. and Mrs. H came to Horizon Cross Cultural Center M-F from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm it has differences classes that may interesting them such as ESL, US Citizenship, flowers arrangement and tai chi class for exercise or

The next visit they very excited to tell me that both took ESL and tai chi classes at Horizon. I continued monitoring and reporting period completed case notes of each week. To supporting and increasing elder socialization is my number one goal. This was just one example class of many classes I have been taken. Beside interned Horizon Cross Cultural Center, I also volunteer at the Community Action Partnership of Orange County every weekend. I spend at least two hours each Saturday. Next, attending college is very important to me because knowledge is treasure. I want to be great role model for my children; therefore, I pushed myself very hard to go further. The more I have knowledge the more I get better life. My situation is very difficult. My husband was veteran. He lost both eyes in the war. My children are very young, and I was unemployment for three years. The only way to improve my life better is attending college to finish Bachelor Degree to get better job to support my family. This is not easily. I put lots of effort.
The social workers in both videos gathered information regarding each of the client’s issues. There are many different career fields you can go into as a social worker: from mental health, drug and alcohol abuse all the way to child welfare. Child welfare is my primary target when I become a social worker. I feel that I will have the biggest impact if I help the kids out that will be creating our future world. This is because culture is a pivotal factor upon which a great deal of conduct, norms, social connections and mindsets of clients revolve. For social workers there is need to understand and appreciate how cultural traditions influence relationships with a diverse panorama of client needs and demands. This literature review seeks to create a foundation regarding the facts stated above through filtering and analysis of relevant and interesting research studies and works by previous authors. This review of literature focuses on how social workers develop or maintain cultural competence following graduation from Masters of Social Work Program. It aimed at providing answers for further research regarding how social workers maintain cultural competence post graduation. In addition, this literature review seeks to consider that social workers are not enhancing their cultural awareness post graduation as mandated by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) code of ethics.

My current job as a Behavioral Intervention Specialist for Bakersfield City School District has motivated me to pursue my masters in social work. Working with troubled students on a daily basis has allowed me to see the great need for social workers at schools. Many students are not successful in school due to their emotional and social issues in their daily lives. I want to be a professional social worker so I can better understand behavior, trauma, and learn of more ways to assist the students at my school. After completion of the social work program I would like to work in a clinical setting. I would really like to be in a mental health center or a hospital working with military members. I don’t have and preference on the kinds of issues that I would like to work with. As long as I am helping veterans, I will be happy. The reason that I prefer to work under these condition is because I have a passion for working with military members, since I am prior military I feel like I can relate to them and I understand what they are going through. I know that it is very hard for military members to talk to civilian about their problems because civilians just don’t understand, no matter what they say. Since the last fifteen years of my life, I have been interested in social work involving families with children. When the therapist met the client in the office for individual therapy, the client greeted the therapist and he was feeling good and energetic as he reported as evidence by reporting that he had a good time with his friends during the previous weekend and he is excited to meet the psychiatrist for follow up and tell the psychiatrist about why he is tired, bored, and sleepy most of the time. They are relating because vulnerability is their main reason why they got out of their full ability to get into recreation and leisure. Through my intervention, they would learn about all the benefits and outcomes that it will bring them. I will involve them in programs where they can be treated as a whole person not matter if they are elderly or having trouble with gender. Both will be able to grow up as a person and change their vulnerability to independence. Some of the programs that I will offer them are assisted-living facilities and counseling/emotional support which will provide them education about their current situation and see things with more clarity. They will be getting into groups with people sharing the same situation. They will realize that they have much more for what to continue and live which would help them see life in different perspective.
