How many people have social media today? More than 75% of the world I would say. I think social media has a negative influence on people, especially young adults. The majority of people use Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to communicate with others, rather than doing so face to face. Social media is detrimental to the world. I am filled with utter disgust when seeing how certain individuals act on it, how young these individuals are, and it tracks our every move!
People often forget to respect others, and it is mainly when using social media. We get so caught up with what is "trending" that we think it's acceptable for us to act in such a barbaric manner. It is not acceptable at all, and we should respect our self more and our peers. Bullying someone on social media is such a common thing to see in this day and age, and we neglect to see the negative affect it could potentially have on someone. We all know it is wrong, but we continue to let it happen everyday. It is human nature to judge, but social media gives bullies confidence they normally would not have; because they can hide behind a screen. I have seen firsthand social media destroy life long friendships and even turn family members against one another.

When we are younger we are easily influenced by what others are doing. So what we see around us really affects the way we decide to function. With that being said, when we make a Twitter or Facebook we start to do as others are doing. At such a young age, we don't know the difference between right and wrong in some scenario. Youngsters give out their personal information and it leads to something much worse. If our children do have social media it should be monitored daily. We never know who could be eavesdropping on our children or even
Larry from safekids.com also imagines that todays tech is the issue, “ These days technology makes it possible for youth to reach through both space and time to harass or bully classmates regardless of location”(Magid). With cell phones, even the impossible is almost possible. Kids will continuously pick on someone else at school, at home, at work, anywhere because they are able to, do to our modern tech. Posting it online will only cause more torment and harassment of the children who have already been bullied and beat up. Larry also says “ It's now possible for kids to use the internet , their cell phones, social networking sites, and even game consoles to harm impersonate and embarrass others” (Magid). Though we enjoy using our technology we have today we may not have as much freedom as we do now in the future if we keep being irresponsible. Any Type of bullying or harassment is not a joke, it leads to many different finishes and most of them people will not like to
Social media has affected people negatively because people depend on social media more than their brain .Which does not bring any benefit to them .Our society has come from being very social to antisocial over the years. Many people don 't interact with each other anymore .We search, post ,tweet and snap not even knowing who we are sharing are information with . In his article “Mind Over Mass Media ,” Steven Pinker writes about the amount of knowledge and power social media is taking away from our brains .College students and high school students are likely to use social media to do their work assignments.Social Media is slowing taking the place of boosk and many other ways people learn. Therefore, I agree that social media is taking the
Social media has a negative impact on our society today due to bullying, job stability, and in person conversations. Bullying affects people because they could attempt to commit suicide. When people have a job they could get in trouble if they start bashing on coworkers. In person conversations aren’t the best because people can give off false information about themselves.
Bullying has always been a worldwide issue faced in many schools, neighborhoods and public places. In the past, bullies targeted their victims by acting tough and intimidating in person. As our society advanced in technology, the types of bullying advanced as well. The creation of the internet and social media sites now allows bullies to now hide behind their computer screens to torment their victims. Social media negatively affects our society more than it benefits us because it has created cyberbullying. Cyberbullying has become a worsening issue in our society that is difficult to prevent. We need to reduce our usage of social media networks in order to decrease cyberbullying on the internet.
How many of you had a social media accounts before the age 13? Not many kids know what they’re getting into when they make a social media account. They make the account because they see everyone else doing it or wanting to try something new. Many c...

Social media has impacted everyone that has used it at some point in his or her life. Since the world is increasing in technology advances, so is social media, which can be good and bad. Technology has made a huge difference in the world and definitely how people are doing things now. Yes, the Internet can be good for the majority of things we use it for, such as doing research, keeping in touch with family or friends who are far away, and saving time and money. Others like to take advantage of social media and use it in a way that can hurt people; it may not hurt them physically, but it can hurt them emotionally.
Facebook and other social media platforms have brought communication across the world to a whole new level. The rise of social media has created a place for children to communicate with others in both a positive and negative manner. Although it has made a positive impact on American youth, it has also contributed and exacerbated bullying in our schools. This new form of bullying, often referred to as cyberbullying, has created an around-the-clock atmosphere where bullying can occur even when school is not in session. Many professionals have sought to address the negative aspects of social media and have worked to develop a solution to bring cyberbullying to an end.
In today’s society, much advancement has been made throughout the universe. However, one that seems to stand out in particular is the use of social media. Social media has both positive and negative effects on society. This advancement has led to a difference in communication to everyone by reconnecting with others, or even informing the public nationwide through televisions such as the news or talk shows. However, is social media safe to use? Social media has a great impact on everyone in society. While allowing your children or teenagers to engage in social media a few things to consider are the risks of youth using social media, what age is too young, and also how social media is useful in some cases. Children participate in cyber bullying now and even find themselves involved in bad habits, such as sexting (Schurgin O’Keefe). According to a recent poll conducted, over 22 percent of teenagers log onto their social media site more than ten times a day (Schurgin O’Keefe). Not everything is negative towards social media, but there are precautions that need to be taken when there is the youth involved.
In fact a Consumer Reports survey (June 2012) said 800,000 minors were harassed or cyber bullied on Facebook. Because social media has become so widespread it has become a breeding ground for cyberbullying. Facebook is the leading social networking site for bullying. Twitter doesn’t have as big of a problem as many of the other sites due to the way it is set up. However, Ask.FM (has caused serious problems among teenagers, resulting in bullying behavior that has been difficult to stop (Social). SnapChat can also contribute to the bullying problem by creating pictures that make fun of other individuals (Social). Because of the ability for anyone to log onto these social media sites it can now take place with both adults and minors too. Facebook rules state that children under 13 are not supposed to be on Facebook. In 2011 Facebook closed about 800,000 underaged accounts. There is an estimated 5.6 million active accounts that are still owned by underaged kids (Social). Because of a maturity issue, one million children were harassed, threatened or subjected to other forms of cyberbullying on Facebook during 2011(N/a Social). It’s not just a rumor, even adults get bullied too. I’m sure you heard about the CBS news anchor, Jennifer Livingston. On national tv she called out the person who was bullying her about her weight over email and social media. She was very
Social media has changed the way people communicate with each other and in turn, has affected our ability to empathize in both negative and positive ways. One of the most harmful consequences is the rise of cyber-bullying, which can be found from a hateful Facebook post by a classmate to anonymous trolling in the comments sections of websites. Some argue that social media is a breeding ground for this type of behavior while others say it would still take place even if you removed the medium.
Social media is described as content created and shared by individuals on the web using freely available websites that allow users to create and post their own images, video and text information and then share that with either the entire internet or just a select group of friends (Affilorama, 2012). They are more like a website allowing you to express your daily activities, beliefs, locations, likes, dislikes, photos, music, etc. They are used by creating a profile, and logging in through either the website, or apps now used on smartphones, or any portable device with Wi-Fi connection. Although most social media networks are directed towards adults and young adults, young children are getting into these websites as well. There are usually age limits but there isn’t a certainty that all the users provided their actual age, allowing whoever wants to be a member of these sites to bypass an age limit “security” procedure. Facebook and MySpace require users to be at least 13, but they have no practical way to verify ages, and many young users prete...
With all the new networking site it makes it easier for bullies to target their victims. Kids don’t understand when they reach a certain limit it can trigger the young kids mind to commit suicide. Bullying and suicide have a huge connection between the two. Getting bullied at school is one thing getting bullied on social media is another, there are more people that can see if they post public. Getting made fun of on social media can make the other kid sensitive and can get to them to the point where they cannot take it anymore. If kids have easy access to get online it is easy for them to find their victim, now a day kids know how to work the new websites. Among average 61% have received mean or embarrassing posts online and 59% have received mean texts, e-mails or instant messages (Anderson, Bresnahan, & Musatics, 2014). It is easier to bully on social media then is at school or anywhere else. Embarrassing pictures or even inappropriate pictures of the victim can be uploaded by the bully leading to embarrassment for everyone to see. It is much easier to be behind a screen not being face to face to attack with harsh word, or whatever it is to embarrass the kid. Being behind a screen doesn’t like kids socialize, which is what is wrong with the society
Generally twitter and other social websites are good and they have many nice aspects, but at the same time they need awareness of families, communities and also governments. Young people have to use them but for important things and under control.
Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.
