The movie Easy A is certainly iconic in many different ways. First, the hit film gave one of the most well known movie stars, Emma Stone, her stardom. Second, although the movie is very controversial due to the sexual context, it has some valuable life lessons. I will be discussing three major conflicts that occur in the movie that include the spread of rumors, the consequences of lying and how exonerating the truth isn’t always easy.
The first conflict begins when Olive (Emma Stone) and her friend Rhiannon are in the bathroom and Olive lies about losing her virginity. Rhiannon is the (1) support leader because she is very supportive of Olive and is extremely happy for her. Marianne, an extremely exuberant Christian, overhears Olive and spreads

Brandon is secretly gay and to avoid being bullied he asks Olive to make it known they slept together. Olive agrees because of the (6) situational context which is the rumor that started about Olive losing her virginity. Brandon becomes the (7) withdrawer because after he got what he wanted he doesn’t talk to Olive that much. However, Brandon begins to tell his friends how Olive helped him and they begin to ask her for help. Olive becomes a (8) political decision maker because she agrees to help the boys because she wants to gain popularity and attention from her classmates. Olive takes two roles in this conflict, first (9) the directive leader because she sets the structure for the boys that she helps by setting the rules and plans for each circumstance. Second, Olive becomes a (10) doormat because she is doing these favors for people so they will like her and for her popularity to increase. that started about Olive, she takes on three roles during this …show more content…
The film thoroughly discussed (for the most part) what high school is truly like especially when it comes to rumors being spread. The movie showed what rumors can do to a person and gave a strong message that you should always tell the truth. Also, the thought are lies that help others considered good or bad? As we learned from this movie, the truth always comes out. With that being said, a lie may better your reputation or increase your popularity but have you ever thought that that specific lie may hurt someone else? Easy A discussed three major conflicts that include the spread of rumors, the consequences of lying and how exonerating the truth isn’t always
The movie A League of Their Own is about a female baseball league that was formed since the men were off fighting in World War II. The need to keep professional baseball going the owners tried the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Marshall, 1992). Most of the movies that we watch have multiple examples of social psychology concepts. The movie A League of Their Own did have concepts that we learned about. The five concepts that I pick out of the movie were schemas, self-fulfilling prophesy, display rules, self-handicapping, and social exchange theory.
Name of the movie that I selected was “Stranger in Good Company”. This movie was directed by Cynthia Scott and it was released at May 03, 1991(www.imdb.com). This movie is 105 minutes long and audience for this movie is mostly adults. I chose this movie because it is a heartwarming, slow paced reflection on life, the strong human spirit, and the meaning of true friendship when it occurs between strangers. In addition to that, this movie that show us the true unity, love, and individuality. This movie is related to the aging because almost all the actors are seniors and they truly bring their life memory to the movie. This movie shows us many sociological imagination, life course and diachronic vision that most of the older people have.
The Outsiders identified the 60’s, often there would be violence between groups and often involving a group’s social class. For instance, the tensions between the Socs and Greasers is violent, and this will lead to Bob’s death, Johnny’s death, as well as many injuries throughout both gangs. The book The Outsiders is written by S.E. Hinton and is portrayed through the eyes of a high school student in Tulsa, OK where S.E. Hinton grew up. Hinton began writing The Outsiders in 1965 at the age of 17 and the book was finally published in 1967 when she was 19. The difference in perspective upon the society and social class creates issues throughout The Outsiders and they assume the problems will be solved with violence,
The movie, The Outsiders, starts with the Curtis parents on their weekly, Saturday evening drive to the baking store to buy some ingredients for their boys’ favorite Sunday morning, breakfast treat: chocolate cake. The Curtis boys love their chocolate cake for Sunday breakfast not only because they love it, but also because they appreciate how hard their parents have to work to save the monies necessary for the morsels that put smiles on their faces!
Breakfast Club film contained a wide variety of behavior and stereotypes. Each person had their on personality and taste at the beginning of the film. I believe that communication played the biggest part in the movie. It shows the way that people from totally different backgrounds can communicate and even agree on issues. The various types of communication and behaviors within the film will be discussed.
The first topic that is found in the movie that was taught in class is conflict. Conflict is expressed disagreement over perceived incompatible goals. Although it may seem it, conflict is not always a negative thing. Conflict is needed and can help growth of relationships. Many conflicts are started because people have different conversational styles. In class, we learned that there are guidelines that one should follow in order to help prevent conflict or help solve it. The guidelines include clarifying goals, helping others save face, using constructive criticism skills, using empathic listening skills, monitoring nonverbal be...
However, three ethical decisions that this learning will make after viewing the film is to always assist individual to the best of your ability, despite personal issues with loved ones or friends; next, always report crimes, no matter the consequence they may have; and last but not least, stand up for what’s right, even if it leads to misfortune. The pros of each of these decisions is peace within yourself. However, one of the cons is dealing with negative pressures. For example, when you report a crime, you may be summoned to court, and have to deal with the negative criticism.
S. E. Hinton’s argument is given from the perspective of a 14 year old Greaser named Pony boy Curtis who is being raised by his older brothers Darrel and Soda pop. The theme of the Outsiders is no matter what side you may grow up on whether you are a Greaser or a Socs, that you all can still have the same problems, see the same solutions, and dream the same dreams. You are also able to see how his character grows up and matures during the various interactions throughout this book. The two gangs in the book are the Greasers and the Socs (socials) and honestly, even after reading the book the only reason they didn’t like each other is they both had assumptions about each other that really weren’t correct.
The 2009 film “Precious”, based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire, tells the tragic story of sixteen-year-old Claireece Precious Jones; an overweight, illiterate who is now pregnant with her second child. Her life at home is a complete nightmare; her mother, Mary, verbally, emotionally and physically abuses her daily. Her father, Carl, molested her on multiple occasions and impregnated her twice then disappeared. Precious was kicked out of public school and took an offer to attend an alternative school where she meets her inspirational teacher Miss Blu Rain. Precious begins to believe in herself and prepares herself for her future. She becomes engaged in class and learns how to read and write; she was called stupid and dummy all her life and
Social Psychology is the study of how we think and relate to other people. These psychologists focused on how the social situation influences others behavior. We see social influences everywhere we go, but might not notice it. Like when watching a movie for fun you do not notice it as much as when you are actually looking for the behaviors, like in the film The Breakfast Club. There are several examples of social psychological behaviors in the film.
Modern America, in accordance to course materials and personal experiences, overtly sexualizes people, specifically among the youth, engendering new versions of gender expectations, roles, relationships, and how society views people based on appearance, sexual promiscuity or supposed promiscuity, and so on. Easy A (2011) represents an example clarifying how gender socialization impacts today’s youth via several concepts such as slut shaming, slut glorification, challenging masculinity, dating/hooking up, gender expectations and social acceptance. This film primarily focuses on a female’s promiscuity. Olive, the main character, is automatically labeled slut, after a rumor she unintentionally sparked by a bathroom conversation. Soon, the rumor spread and Olive became “school slut” in minutes.
“Adults with any type of mental illness in the past year: 45.1 million” (APA). Mental disorders are not easy to visualize. Especially three of the most common disorders, Clinical Depression, Anxiety Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. However, the Oscar winning film, Inside Out, places an interesting perspective on mental disorders by occasionally panning back and forth from the main character’s head to the heads of the other cast. The main character, Riley, has five personified emotions in her head: Joy, Disgust, Fear, Anger, and Sadness. All five of these characters are given certain shapes and colors to go accordingly to what their emotion is. An example is that Anger is given
“My boss doesn’t know the material, but he won’t let me run the demo with a black eye and half my face swollen from the stitches inside my cheek”(Palahniuk, par. 1). Chuck Palahniuk’s “Fight Club” deals with a man frustrated on many different levels; from his childhood to present day life. Fight Clubs' setting contributes to what makes Fight Club such a powerful story. The narrator who is never named, starts off in chapter six with what could be described as an office hell; complete with empty smiles and feeble minded speak of which color icon they will use for office reports. The beginning of chapter six reminds the reader of mindless zombie office speak and a lack of life, that is all too common in many peoples lives. The reader will most likely identify with what is written in a manner easily transferable to anyones life. I believe most people, when reading would characterize the office environment as the light side and the hours during fight club at the bottom of the bar the dark side. I would argue the complete opposite. For the narrator, all the hate, the disgust, the total contempt for humanity is created in that office environment. All the feelings of life, and meaning, and what I would characterize as happiness is all felt during the time fight club is in effect in the bottom of that bar.
There were many things I learned from this film, but the number one thing that I learned is that knowledge is power. It was the men that knew the case and its background, which were able to encourage and persuade the others to take their side. And the same goes for our class, the person with the most knowledge of the situation or lesson, is going to get a better grade or have more people wanting to be on their team. They have the power to change the scene or persuade someone to see it their way.
The success value of this movie is about righteous. In fact, that is to say, though sometimes honesty conflicts honor, one should never try to win by cheating.
