American football became a mix of soccer and rugby. Rugby and soccer both came across the Atlantic and both sports were played at colleges and universities. The earliest history of football told us there was no single variety of the game was played; some schools basically played soccer and others played soccer, while others played many combinations of the two sports. The first commonly billed game of college football was on November 6, 1869 when Princeton and Rutgers college played at Rutgers in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Rutgers beat Princeton 6-4. The owner of the Eagle Bert Bell thought of the idea at the end of the 1934 and other owners agreed, putting the idea into effect in 1936. The order of the draft was determined by the worst teams of the previous season in opposite orders in the standings picking college players. The first ever NFL draft pick was Jay Berwanger who was drafted by the Eagles. During the 1940s few innovations were made to the game, with one known exception: the platoon.
