While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I believe that people are often far from the truth about soccer. One reason soccer receives hate is because people believe that it’s a sport for wimps, however, this isn’t the case. There may not be bone crushing tackles like in American football, or huge body checks like in hockey, but soccer is a very physical sport in other ways. For one, if two players are running for the ball, there will often be a lot of pushing and shoving for possession. It’s also very risky, and dangerous, especially when defending. when going in for a tackle, or sliding tackle, you risk bad leg and / or ankle injuries from getting stepped on or going over on your ankle. Soccer also takes a high amount of stamina as
well as physical ability, because you could be on the pitch without breaks for up to 45 minutes. To me, that doesn’t sound like something a wimp would want to do. Aside from being more physical than most people think, soccer is also a very strategic game too. Communication is a lot more important in soccer than it is in other sports. Usually, a captain is assigned to keep everyone in order on the pitch, and make sure everyone is fulfilling their responsibilities on and off the ball. Another reason soccer is taking hits is because it’s such a simple sport to play. All you need is a ball, and a few rocks or pop cans for goals. In my opinion, this is one of the reasons soccer is so great. Anyone from anywhere can play, despite income, making it the most popular sport in the world. In conclusion, the hate that soccer receives is incorrect, and quite irrelevant. Thanks to Delaney for inspiring this rant.

Soccer differs in Spain and in America when it comes to attendances and passion for the sport, play style, and the way their players are shaped into professions. The United States is said to play a hybrid form of soccer compared to hispanic countries (Parrish). American soccer athletes are typically taught to emphasize conditioning and possession. Secondly, Americans and Hispanics’ passion for the sport are extremely different from one another. The people in Hispanic countries live for soccer, as they are devoted, passionate, and loyal to the teams. Contrarily in America, football, basketball, and baseball trump soccer making it only the fourth most attended and watched event. No matter how the sport is played or how many people attend the events, soccer is well liked in both the United States and Hispanic

In the book entitled Out of Their League, David Meggyesy describes his life as a football player from high school through his days with the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). Born in 1941, Meggyesy was raised in a low-income household in Solon, Ohio. Like many athletes from impoverished backgrounds, he was able to use the game of football to better himself though both a full scholarship to Syracuse University and financial stability with the Cardinals. During his career, however, Meggyesy became increasingly disillusioned with the game of football and how its athletes were subject to tremendous physical and psychological turmoil from those in power—namely the coaches and the NFL team owners. He began to see the game of football from a conflict theorist point of view. This is the belief that sport is an opiate used to benefit those in power through the exploitation of athletes which enables those such as coaches and team owners to maintain their power and privilege in society. (Coakley, 1998) Meggyesy's growing disenchantment with football and adoption of a conflict theorist point of view led him to retire from the Cardinals in 1969.

Soccer has been around for a very long time. Many people around the world play soccer. An abundance of people love soccer, but just as many people hate soccer; they prefer hockey, baseball, or football. Football is just an Americanized version of soccer. Here are three interesting things about soccer.
Football is known around the world but unfortunately not played. Football is an American based sport which ironically is played only in the United States, while soccer on the other hand is played all over the world. Another difference is the kit/protective gear used in playing. In football, Helmet, Shoulder/Chest pad/protector, upper leg padding and mouth guard are rightfully required while in soccer, Shin guards and Boots is all that is required. This is why Soccer is considered a gentleman 's sport played by beasts and Football is a beastly game played by
Athletes who play football share the same goal as athletes who play soccer: score the most goals to win the game. In football, there are two areas on opposite sides of the field where one can score points by bringing the football over the goal line. Soccer shares this same concept by having two nets on opposite sides of the field where one can score a point by kicking the soccer ball into the net. Also, both sports share the concept of having an offense and defense, and both sports each have eleven players on a team on the field at a time. These are only few of many similarities between these two sports, but in actuality, they are significantly different. The rules, rituals, and concepts of both sports distinguish themselves from each other.
It is a game that is played with two sides. Each side will have eleven players, including the goal-keeper. Soccer, also known as Football, is a widely known sport these days. Because of the confusion between American Football and football, the term football is mostly used in Europe and Africa. Originated in England, soccer is now a profitable sport besides its recreational, health significance, and competitive atmosphere.
Soccer the way we play it came from England in the 1800’s. Soccer was not that popular until the mid-1900’s. Today soccer is very popular and it is one of the nations fastest-growing sports. There are many exercises and drills you can do to improve how you play soccer. There is also many physical conditioning that players can do. Soccer can help you stay fit and healthy. It is not like the NBA or NFL in the United States, which suffers from America’s escalated race issues and power structures. Soccer is a sport played all over the world by all races and nationalities and is actually the most popular sport in the world. America might be the only country where soccer is not even in the top 5 and lucky to maybe included in the top 10. This year the NFL topped America’s popularity with 35% of people saying that it is their favorite sport, followed by MLB, college football, auto racing—presumably Nascar, the NBA, the NHL, and finally, college basketball (Rovell). Soccer is not even listed. That being said, American manifestations of racism through their media coverage of minority athletes and their treatment as well as being subject to different criticisms. Globally, though, soccer is the most popular sport with 250 million players across 200 nations and roughly 3.5 billion fans worldwide (sporteology.com). The racism experienced by minority athletes in soccer is very different than sports in America. In America, they are admired by the public as they are included into their world of what is acceptable but thought of as entertainers and many times subject to racial slurs, such as the infamous Donald Sterling case, the previous owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. In soccer, especially in England, they are constantly attacked verbally by fans, which are directed towards black

Soccer has proven to be a notable sport throughout the years starting with its unique history. Soccer began all over the world tracing back thousands of years. The Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Ancient Greek, Persian, Vikings, as well as other nationalities all played a form of the game soccer. In China and Rome, games that were similar to soccer were played around 200 B.C. (Helmer and Owens, 5). People believe that soccer started more than a thousand years ago when villagers killed attacking pirates by cutting off their heads and kicking them around (Helmer and Owens, 5). As time went on, people in Europe also played a game similar to soccer during Medieval Times. In fact, soccer was used to prepare warriors for battles in Ancient Greece and Rome (Dilov-Shultheis). In later history, the English called the game “Football” because soccer was played by kicking the ball with the foot (Helmer and Owens, 6). The name “soccer” came to be when the American’s Association Football was shortened to assoc., and later to soc. Eventually in 1895 it was called soccer (Helmer and Owens, 9). I was always taught that soccer was to be about the love of the game and that it should be fun. Unfortunately, I faced many obstacles that I needed to overcome before I could truly love the game for what it was worth. I grew and continued to love the game, knowing little at the time of the obstacles I would be faced with, and would need to overcome. My struggles with soccer began early in my life. I was an average player, who had a drive to succeed and go far.
