Snowflakes and Snowmen
The moon was full and bright and it was cold. Stewart liked the quiet just before dawn.
Stewart the snowman was dressed in a bright red coat and a red stove pipe hat. He stood very still in the yard of Carl and Cathy.
It began to snow.
Stewart watched the snow flakes land on his sleeve one by one, he was always amazed that every flake was different. Sometimes the flakes would cover him like a blanket.
“God is amazing “ thought Stewart.
Today the walking paths and the roads would have to be shoveled but that would not take too long, this snowfall was light. There had been plenty of snow this winter which made Stewart very happy. He loved the snow. When there was new snow he was always willing to help shovel it from the paths if someone asked for help.
Stewart looked toward the house “Soon the family would be up” he said to himself. “Mary and Edward would be off to school. Cathy would be heading for the Bakery and Carl off to his wood shop.”
Stewart sighed.
“Good morning Stewart” said Hector as he passed by on his way to the Pleasant Hotel. “Good morning” replied Stewart
“There is a great deal to do at the Hotel this morning.” mumbled Hector as he hurried on. The new snow had to be cleaned off all the sidewalks and he had to make sure there was plenty of wood for all the fireplaces. They were expecting many guests at the Pleasant Hotel today and it was his job to make sure everything was ready for them.
The Village of Wonder would be full of guests for the next few days, for tomorrow was the Great Toboggan Race.
Part of the guest came for the three days that were set aside for the race and some came only for the day of the race. Everyone in the Village was busy.

“I am sorry I was so selfish Mayor Sam” Stewart said
“Well it is done now and just in time, could you make a final check the first thing in the morning just before the race?”
“Sure thing, “ said Stewart as he turned to leave.
“Also, someone needs to be at the finish line with me tomorrow to see who wins the race,” Mayor Sam continued, “Would you like to do that Stewart?”
“Oh My” said Stewart. “ You mean I will be a judge?”
“Yes, that right” said Sam, “It is a very important job. You will also hand out the trophies to the winners.”
Stewart frowned.
“To think I almost missed all of this just by being selfish,” said Stewart
“God often cautions us about our selfishness,” explained Sam. “ I’m glad you understand now.”
A tiny tear rolled down Stewart’s cheek
“Don’t do that,” Sam cautioned, “You will look silly with an ice cycle hanging off your chin”
The man was so confident that he thought he had many protecting to keep him warm and last through the hold snowy trip. ”He held on through the level stretch of woods for several miles, crossed a wide flat of rigger-heads, and dropped down a bank to the frozen bed of a small stream. This was Henderson Creek, and he knew he was ten miles from the forks. He looked at his watch. It was ten o'clock. He was making four miles an hour, and he calculated that he would arrive at the forks at half-past twelve. He decided to celebrate that event by eating his lunch there” (London par. 8 ). This shows that he was confident that he would last through the whole trip with what he is just wearing. He was also confident because he was moving fast and he thought he was traveling fast but he was not traveling quick enough. “He was. pleased at the speed he had made. If he kept it up, he would certainly be with the boys by six. He unbuttoned his jacket and shirt and drew forth his lunch. The action consumed no more than a quarter of a minute, yet in that brief moment the numbness laid hold of the exposed fingers. He did not put the mitten on, but, instead struck the fingers a dozen sharp smashes against his leg.” (London par. 14). He was confident on how fast he moved and stopped and relax to enjoy his frozen
He fig-ured that the normal half hour walk home might take as long as two hours in snow this deep. And then there was the wind and the cold to contend with. The wind was blowing across the river and up over the embankment making the snow it carried colder and wetter than the snow blanketing the ground. He would have to use every skill he’d learned, living in these hills, to complete the journey without getting lost, freezing to death, or at the very least ending up with a severe case of frostbite be-fore he made it back to Ruby.
Gliding over to the kitchen, Minnie continued with her everyday tasks. She began by clearing the table, a task that should have been completed the night before but was left untouched. She put things away one by one and in a quiet manner. She lightly opened and shut the cupboards, placing pots and pans where they belonged, one by one, straight from the table to under the sink. It was cold in that kitchen. Minnie looked out the window to her neighbor’s house. Perhaps today she would go visit; perhaps today she would not.
Have you ever seen snow before? That white fluffy stuff that covers the ground completely. Well if you have, I am sure you have overcome an obstacle in your life and have reached something “irreplaceable and beautiful” (102). Just like Sister Zoe had said when she saw that snow falling from the sky. This story was very enlightening because the way the author brought in herself and portrayed herself through the character Yolanda was very intriguing. She brought the subject to life in many ways. However, the author of “Snow” uses two specific elements, its symbolism and its character to prove how overtime one individual will be able to overcome obstacles. Not only does theses elements point this out but the narrator also makes an impact of the reader as well.
It was a windy Saturday morning with temperatures well below freezing, and Chung relished these last moments of warmth inside the store before he'd have to venture out into the cold. Several thousand miles away from his old home in southern China, where temperatures fluctuated between hot and hotter, Chung still hadn't quite adjusted to Providence's bitter winters. That walk would be especially brisk today!

In Hemingway’s “A Clean Well-Lighted Place”, the old wealthy man keeps ordering drinks. One of the employees of that restaurant mention...
I stepped out of the chilly November air and into the warmth of my home. The first snowfall of the year had hit early in the morning, and the soft, powdery snow provided entertainment for hours. As I laid my furry mittens and warm hat on the bench to dry, I was immediately greeted with the rich scent of sweet apple pie, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and the twenty-pound turkey my mother was preparing for our Thanksgiving feast.
Verse 3: Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.
The day was finally here, the day to pick our novels to read for the semester. Being Nick I hadnt even looked at the reading list and the time was here to pick my novel. My friend in the class Maygan let me look at the reading list for a brief second. I skimmed through the list looking for an interesting book title and maybe a title that I could relate something in my life to. I picked the novel SnowCrash, by Neal Stephenson. SnowCrash, sounded like a fun snowboarding novel or winter novel that would be fun to read. Maybe something about a snow mobile crash. This book has no snow at all in it. . I was way off. This book has a more optimistic look on our future, and the outcome of our present technology. The book turns out to have a typical underdog vs. the world theme, but the plot is so intriguing that this should not dissuade you of the quality. One of the most distinctive features of cyberpunk is the technological aspect. Traditional science fiction dealt with things that were possible, but not probable. Cyberpunk not only deals possible, not just the probable, but technology that man already has. This is not to say that cyberpunks do not have there fair share of far flung imaginative human interface hookups and so forth, but they are talking about technology that if it were to be developed, it would be within the writers life time or so.
By Friday afternoon it had begun to snow and quickly several inches had accumulated. As the snow was falling, clean up quickly began. The neighborhood soon filled with children excited over the freshly fallen snow. Since all of the schools were closed, the children were assured enjoyment for several days.
Have you ever had a day in your life that just seemed to be bad just because it wanted to be? Have you ever thought that the whole world was against you? You probably thought, “This day sucks.” Or, as some drama queens might say, “This is the worst day of my life!” In Robert Frost’s Poem, “Dust of Snow,” Frost explores the idea of one simple thing affecting the rest of your day in a positive way, even if you think the day will never get better. I believe that this poem is about allowing something to make your day better, even if what happens is a seemingly simple thing.
The next question that would be swimming in readers’ mind is about the speaker. Who is him? why is he stopping by the woods? on snowy evening? The speaker might be the one who loves nature as Frost himself is a person who loves nature. He just can’t get enough of it and looking and staring the woods. He is appreciating the scenery and he just comes to his sense that he has to go home because he has his own life.
St. Paul writes in Philippians 2: 3-4, “Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” As I reflect on the community service that I have done this year, I am understanding more about how important this verse is. In life, success and riches can lead one to value oneself above others and become increasingly selfish. However, this is not the road one should take. God makes it clear in his Word that to whom much is given, much is required. Each man is called to utilize the gifts he has been blessed with, to benefit the lives of those around him. Will Smith once said, “If you're not making
Now we had to make the long trip back to Mrs. Tina’s house. It was such a long day, and we were extremely tired so we decided to skip dinner. We took showers, put on our pajamas, brushed are teeth, and went to bed. Over the next few days we went to the beach, had picnics in the park, went bike riding and skating, and took a trip to the mall. We had such a fun week, but now it was time to go home. So, we thanked Mrs. Tina and her family for being so generous and welcoming to us. We told them that they would have to come visit us so we could return their kindness they showed us. So, we gave them hugs and kisses and we headed back to Las Vegas.
