For the "Snap of Me Chat" project, I decided to bring in a few items that best symbolize me. These items include a hockey puck, a field lacrosse helmet, a picture of my family, and the book "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. I brought these items into class because they best represent myself, my interests, my values, as well as what is important to me.
The first and most important item that I brought to class was a hockey puck. The hockey puck symbolizes my love and passion for the game of hockey. I have been playing hockey for over ten years and I love the game more and more every time I get the opportunity to play it. Hockey has taught me many important life lessons. These lessons are ones about hard work, determination, collaboration,
As a youngster, Jessome played hockey with the stick on the local pond. “I was a goalie and I thought it was a goalie stick,” he said. “I played with it for years.”
William Faulkner brings all aspects of the game to life by going beyond the game itself, and immersing the readers into the intricate details that are often overlooked by most spectators. While spectators and televised sports commentators focus on the literal game itself, the points and teams, Faulkner describes the “kaleidoscopic whirl” of motion, the grace of the players and the designs they carve into the ice. He goes beyond the typical description of skates and hockey sticks, depicting them as “knife blades of skates” and “deft sticks which could break bones.” Faulkner, through this fluid and detail oriented writing, portrays the game of hockey in a way most people fail to see.
As more of my teammates began to show up, I recognized most of them. However, I learned later that if I went on to play in the Spring, this would not be the same exact team I would play with. With only twenty minutes until we began,I put on all of my gear and my dad gave me a thorough warm up. Time seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, everyone was gathered together as positions were being assigned. I was originally overwhelmed with excitement, but as the game drew closer, the joy I had felt was replaced with anxiety. The lacrosse game taking place before ours ended and we entered and took our place on our bench. I recognized the opposing team’s jerseys quickly and identified them as a travel team from our area. Taking one final breath, I rushed into the lacrosse net enjoying my bird’s eye view, unsure of what was to
Yik Yak is probably the biggest social trend I’ve experienced while at West Point. It is relatively new and the anonymous interface gives people next level comfort especially in an environment where there are several restrictions on what you can say out loud. Yik Yak is useful, I would argue – here more so than at other colleges – CGR can send out quick updates and a significant amount of the cadet population would see them right away; questions about formation times, gym hours and several other things can be answered with ease. However, due to the anonymity, Yik Yak has also become a platform for anonymous hate and bashing. This isn’t new and everyone knows it’s happening. We had a PMEE session talking about why people should
Balancing school with practice was also a challenge, but participating in one of my passions made it worthwhile. I have persevered through difficult times and learned new lessons along the way, so there is nothing that could make this sport less meaningful to me. 148. The 'Standard' of the 'Standard'. Please tell us what you found meaningful about one of the above mentioned books, publications or cultural events.
Attach a small photograph (3.5 x 5 inches or smaller) of something important to you and explain its significance.
Honestly, I can’t remember many of the great games or nice plays that our team has made, but I do remember so much from team bonding. I love the sport of hockey, but the locker room, team activities, and bus trips are what I’ll miss most with the ending of my hockey career. The thought of not lacing up my skates anymore does not seem as bad as the thought of never again experiencing that bond between teammates and the brotherhood that comes with being on the team. We are more than a team; we are a family. As cliché as that might be, it’s true. Spending seven months together, practicing every day, and the three years that I have spent with the seniors now provides great opportunities for friendships and bonds that last forever.

Participating in school sports helps the athlete, the school, and the community as a whole. Dreams are born in courts, fields and arenas across the nation. They can also be lost with the sound of a swish followed swiftly by a buzzer or by a quick running back on a kick off return with only seconds left in the fourth quarter. Being a part of school sports is often the highlight of the year for some students, such environments harbor friendships that can last a lifetime and can teach participants lessons that aren’t learned elsewhere. Lessons like getting back up, and fighting until the end. Lessons of victory and defeat, and holding your head high no matter what ...
The product I chose for my project is a softball bat because it’s a sport I love to play. My brother introduced me the sport softball in 4th grade after he started to play baseball in 3rd grade. I quickly fell in love with the game. I played for 3 years (in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade) for Livemore Girls Softball Association. Softball was the first sport I actually enjoyed playing after trying soccer and karate. Playing softball taught me sportsmanship, teamwork, and how to strategize. The sport also helped me make friends and got me out of my comfort zone because I was very shy. The sport represents an important part of my childhood and helped shape who I am today.
For me, all I had was a wooden board and four wheels. I grew up in a tough environment and my only escape was skateboarding. To be honest, without skateboarding I don’t know where I would be today. Skateboarding literally saved my life and it has saved tens of thousands of kids’ lives across the United States as well. Skateboarding blocked all the negativity that was going on in my life that and turned it into a positive experience. My environment was literally my playground and that’s the greatest gift skateboarding has given to
The picture that stuck out to me the most was a picture of my grandma from the 1970’s. This picture stuck out because I miss my grandma a lot and it made me think of her and what a difference she's made in my life. It made me remember going to breakfast with her and some of my cousins and then going to church every Sunday. I was so excited at the end of the week because I knew I was going to see her. I can never recall a time when she didn't have the biggest smile on her face.
Facebook. Snapchat. Twitter. Instagram. Social media platforms have made the release and distribution of information increasingly fluid and immediate. As a result, our world has become more globalized and interconnected. We can now be privy to different cultures and multiple perspectives. Most importantly, we have created alternate communities that can cater to our specific interests. For example, I have a passion for ceramics and thereby, I follow accounts on social media that super-serve ceramics. However, does such a privilege come at a cost?
The left side of my collage consists of my heritage and culture. The top row of pictures is flags that represent my nationalities, because I am Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Portuguese, and I am a American citizen as well. Secondly, the next row down represent my Catholic religion and a few mentioned holidays that my family and I celebrate. Last, would be one of my favorite holiday, Valentines Day, along with some of my favorite foods that I eat weekly, curry, rice, chicken, Mcdonalds, bananas, spaghetti, etc. Not to mention the other half of my collage that represents my interests and hobbies. For example, I’ve been dancing for 9 years now at Drill Team Hawaii, as a captain for my team this year. Pointe (ballet), lyrical, and hip-hop are my
