1Background of the Issue
Smartphones had been introduced into the market since 1993, although it was Apple that announced their production of smartphones in huge consumption to the public seven years ago. Due to the high purchasing cost of a smartphone for most of the buyers, smartphones then were mainly focused on users of business and as companies’ gadgets (Sarwar & Sonmro, 2013). The combination of a phone, PDA alongside mobile Internet and offers more modern computing ability and connection than a mobile phone are what a Smartphone is all about nowadays. Compared to traditional phones which are final goods, a Smartphone can have many other functions because of the availability of applications created by developers. Nowadays, anyone can connect to the Internet via a Smartphones no matter where they are. Users of Smartphones are now entering a modern world of unlimited information using their Smartphones whenever they want to (Song, n.d.).
According to Sarwar and Sonmro (2013), there are 3 main stages for the growing generation of Smartphones. During the first stage, Smartphones are basically targeting on business users because the operating systems and structures are well corresponding to the criteria for one’s company. Besides, ‘The Simon’ from IBM is the first Smartphone that was released in 1993. Blackberry is counted as the innovative gadget because it established its own operating system, Blackberry Internet System, which has many functions such as web surfing, email and fax and this resulted in the growing of Smartphones in the market with the RIM’s Blackberry series in 2001 (Song, n.d.). After a deep research on this issue, it can be concluded that the use of Smartphone benefits the society. The use of Smartphones has more positive effects to the society because Smartphones act as learning tools, creating new dimensions for business and positive impact to the users.
