A social stigma is the disapproval of a person or group judged by the way they look and differs from what is socially correct. Slut shaming is a type of social stigma, but is usually applied to females that disobey traditional expectations from society, such as the way they dress, requesting birth control, having premarital intercourse, or being the victim blamed for rape or sexual assault, etc. The act of slut shaming is committed by both men and women, being judged and ridiculed for the things they wear and the things they do. Human beings have the freedom to do just about anything as they wish want as long as it does not hurt others, physically and/or verbally. Promiscuity is one of the many issues involving slut shaming. Women should not be judged by their actions and personal choices, but these women are judged by their actions and seen as a hooker, or a tramp as Michael Muhammad Knight states, “If a woman enjoyed sex, or expressed her sexuality outwardly she was automatically a …show more content…

Rape is an inexcusable crime and should not be justified by skewed logic, sadly “almost a third of the men (31.7 percent) said that in a consequence-free situation, they’d force a woman to have sexual intercourse, while 13.6 percent said they would rape a woman” (Singal). Intercourse needs to be consensual, not forced upon by one because they think that there are no consequences for them to face. Some try to excuse the act of sexual harassment they have caused by stating “what she was wearing or about her sexual history, a suggestion that she attracted the assault by wearing clothes that were revealing, or that she made herself available by having sex with other people” (Kohli).
