Recommended: Beauty and the beast compare and contrast

All four Sleeping Beauty stories have one thing in common, Sleeping Beauty always pricks her finger on a spinning wheel/flax. In Sun, Moon, and Talia, the story takes place in a country house. Talia gets raped by a king who finds her in the country house and she gives birth to two beautiful children named Sun and Moon. Talia is awoken because one of the twins had sucked the splinter out from underneath her finger. There are several major characters of which include, Talia, Sun, Moon, the King and Queen. In the end the Queen tries to throw Talia into the fire, but instead, the Queen gets thrown into the fire and Sun, Moon, Talia, and the King live happily ever after. In the next story, Sleeping Beauty in the Woods, there is a party for the newborn princess and all, except one fairy, were invited. The eldest fairy, who …show more content…

Sun, Moon, and Talia was my favorite because it is so different from the rest. Talia gets raped and has a set of twins and one of them takes the splinter out. That is very different compared to some of the other versions of Sleeping Beauty, considering she was raped. My least favorite version of Sleeping Beauty would have to be the Disney movie. The Disney movie is my least favorite version because it's so boring, first she is born, gets cursed, etc. It's not very original unlike Sun, Moon, and Talia. The Disney movie would have to be my favorite version of Beauty and the Beast though because I watched this movie a lot when I was younger and I know it very well. Belle is also one of my favorite princesses. My least favorite version of Beauty and the Beast would be the Beastly movie. The Beastly movie, in my opinion, is not very good. It was very original, but maybe to original. It didn't really resemble any of the other versions at all, besides the fact that he was ugly and needed to be loved to be saved. The original interpretations of the Disney classics Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are greatly reinvented from the original fairytales Sun, Moon, and Talia and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs because of the brutal nature of the treatment women in these original forms. Although there are differences in certain aspects from the original tales to the movies, there are many issues that are influential to the young girls who are still watching the Disney version. I realize this when my youngest niece, Anella asks me, “Why can’t I be beautiful and fall asleep and suddenly wake up to finally find my prince?” This is true in all cases of the four different translations of the fairytales. Every single girl in these stories are in a “beautiful” state of half-death who wake to find a prince who if eager to carry them off. This can lead to negative psychological effects on young girls as they are growing up, creating a large amount of pressure and low self-esteem due to the beauty that these stories portray and maintaining restrictions that these women experience in the stories. While it is true that Sleeping Beauty and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves are considered Disney classics that entertain children and provide meaningful role models, it is evident that the true, vulgar nature of these tales are hidden; these stories are about women who are thrown away.
