In the field of social work, social work practitioners encourage clients to take part in self-care activities as self-care is one factor that promotes subjective well-being (cite). For example, self-care activities a social worker may recommend to their clients are eating healthy, exercising, practicing mindfulness and getting enough quality sleep. Self-care is one variable indicative to subjective well-being as self-care supports an individual’s physical and mental health. In this paper I am focusing on a particular self-care activity, improving sleep hygiene practices, and how not getting enough quality sleep may affect subjective well-being.

Social workers can use a single-subject design with a client to evaluate whether or not a certain intervention is achieving the desired outcome. The first step when utilizing a single subject design in clinical practice is to obtain the client’s baseline. A baseline is a control phase or the measurement of the client’s mental status or behavior before the intervention (cite textbook). One common single-subject design model is the ABA. This model includes one baseline phase (A), one intervention phase (B) and another baseline phase (B). The purpose of this design in social work practice is to help the social worker determine the effectiveness of the intervention on the …show more content…
The ABA SSD took place over three consecutive weeks that began with a seven day baseline period, then a seven day intervention period during which I would employ a therapeutic intervention, and lastly a seven day follow-up period. On the seventh day of the first week, after Elins and I discussed the area of self-care that he wanted to improve he completed a PANAS. The following week Elins implemented the self-care intervention which consisted of no TV/electronics on while in the bedroom and the last week he went back to his regular sleep routine. See Appendix A for complete tracking of these three periods. In addition to the two measures, Elins completed a written follow-up survey. See Appendix B for a sample of the follow-up
9). Based on the afore initiatives, the mental health professional must decide which therapy would be beneficial in treatment for the clients’ problems. Evaluations and reevaluations may be needed to be successful in treatment (Nurcombe, 2014,
The film Sleep Dealer by Alex Rivera uses the discrimination against migrant workers to both critique and warn his audience of the effect of current day politics. Well written science fiction often juxtaposes the politics of the present with futuristic societies and technologies, to further engage the audience and add significance to their work. In Sleep Dealer, migrant workers no longer can cross the border due to the construction of an enormous wall, yet still work across the border by the use of advanced virtual reality technology. Working in these “sleep dealers” isn’t much a choice for the poverty laden workers in Mexico, similar to how the current illegal immigration situation exists. By creating a fictional world with discrimination that so accurately embodies current politics, Alex Rivera engages his audience to realize the social and ethical consequences of our practices, and makes you think whether such a society can exist one day in the future.

A multiple-baseline design differs from a reversal design by attempting to control for confounds through the introduction of treatment at differing time intervals to a few different people, to the same person in different situations, or to the same person across different behaviors. Reversal designs attempt to control for confounds by reversing the baseline and treatment conditions one or more times to assess the impact on behavior (Jackson, 2012).
Even though conceptualization may develop along the time, the lack of a firm formulation from the first session is often a factor for delayed results (Curwen, Ruddell, and Palmer, 2000). As perceived on the video, using the Five Areas Model the therapist offers a useful way of accounting for the maintenance of the client’s anxiety (Williams and Garland, 2002). A discussion of the formulation with the client should had occurred more elaborately, as this is a very important step to promote the client in engaging in the therapeutic process (Dobson and Dobson, 2009). At the end of the video session, the therapist gives a summary of the problem currently being experienced using the Five Areas Model (Williams and Garland, 2002), however, this could have been done with more detail. As a formulation is hypothetical and based on a theory, the therapist should have asked for the client’s feedback on the formulation (Butler, Fennell, and Hackmann, 2008). In the first session, the therapist should have educated the client about her diagnosis, explaining the cognitive model. As viewed on the assessment session video, the therapist elicits expectation of the treatment and most important, instils hope by setting specific goals with the client on the first session (Primary Psychiatry,

Functional behavior assessments are used by behavior analyst to determine the motivation for problem behaviors in clients with disabilities. With direct and indirect assessments of behavior, the behavior analyst can identify the target behavior and develop a hypothesis to test before then developing the behavior intervention plan. The accumulation of this knowledge to develop behavior intervention plans to change these behaviors is directed and regulated through the students individualized education plan as well as Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1997 (IDEA) (Drasgow, 2001). Although IDEA 1997 does not dictate, the exact steps of the functional behavior assessment but rather leaves this up to the individual education plan team.
Much like occupational therapy, social workers incorporate theory in their field to increase the understanding of human behavior and the delivery of exceptional service. The profession of social work follows the code of ethics, core values, and guiding principles of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). Fultz described how the principles of service, social justice, dignity and worth of a person, importance of human relationships, integrity and competence guide her clinical practice by strengthening her commitment to her client centered services. Although Fultz incorporates theory into her clinical experience, she addressed the challenges that occur when trying to apply theory. She believes that since each client is unique to themselves, not all theories may be helpful to all individuals. However, she continues to use theory due to the fact that it is evidence based and ensures that health professionals are using the most efficient and up to date treatment
Social workers use a Biopsychosocialspiritual (BPSS) assessment in order to gain a holistic view of the client. Using a BPSS, the clinician can see the result of how each interaction is integrated, which can assist the clinician in identifying risk and protective factors. In this case, the following will show all of Devon’s strengths and what he will continue to need to either strengthen those protective factors or mitigate the risk.
The specific aim for this grant proposal is the design a study, over a six-month period, to examine the effectiveness of healthier psychological functioning and awareness of one’s self. Self-awareness is a big concern as individual’s
Subjective well-being is a broad term that encapsulates how a person appraises his or her life and emotional experiences. It has different aspects which includes life satisfaction, positive and negative affect (Diener et al., 2016). Positive affect refers to pleasant feelings such as joy, ecstasy, pride. While negative affect is defined as emotions that are troublesome or that can cause disturbance like anger and guilt. Life satisfaction is the cognitive domain of subjective well-being as it refers to the judgments made by the person about his life as a whole (Suldo and Huebner, 2005). For example, a person evaluates his subjective well-being by looking at his health satisfaction, job satisfaction, and other facets of his life including feelings regarding his life experiences (Diener et al., 2016). People with high subjective well-being are
Sleep disorders are an underestimated public health concern considering that fifty to seventy million Americans are affected. Technological advances in the field of sleep have facilitated various theories to explain the need for and the purpose of sleep. Scientist have uncovered many types of sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea, and narcolepsy. Sleep disorders affect men ,women, children, the elderly, and the obese in different ways. Factors such as the number of children and the effects of menopause have been studied to determine their effects on sleep. Various treatments have been utilized ranging from non-pharmacologic to pharmacologic methods. Scientist have pinpointed areas of the brain that are involved in sleep deprivation and hormones that ultimately affect sleep.
In the Applied Behavior Analysis field, countless individuals can be helped using ABA techniques and psychological theories. My client is a 41-year-old man, who just went through a divorce, lost his job, and is now rebuilding his life. He is dealing with the loss of seeing his two children on a constant basis. He is now dealing with thoughts of failure, not fitting into any place in society, and isolation.
EBP changes according to the client and the particular case. The social worker has to examine all aspects before picking an intervention. A systematic review of multiple interventions research studies is one EBP that can be beneficial to generalist social work practice. My purpose for selecting this form of EBP is because every case, situation, or counseling can always benefit from researching previous treatment
In my paper I will clarify the seven measurements of wellbeing and how we require every one and how they identify with us. These measurements are: Social Wellness, Emotional Wellness, Spiritual Wellness, Environmental Wellness, Occupational Wellness, Intellectual Wellness and Physical Wellness. Every one of the measurements of health have critical impact in our day by day living with how we converse with individuals, to how we think rationally. My paper will have the capacity to clarify measurements of wellbeing altogether.
