This document was written for the general public in Virginia during the time of 1705. These people included salves, servants, masters, and church wardens. This document is written for anyone that has slaves or servants. This article was written to inform slaves, servants, and masters of their rights. It was to inform the slaves and servants of the consequences that would take place if they did not obey rules or their masters. For the masters or owners it was written to inform them of their rights related to their servants and slaves. In section VII it's stated "that all masters and owner's of servants, shall find and provide for their servants, wholesome and competent diet, clothing, and lodging". This tells the master's what they are obligated
By the 18th century, Pennsylvania was becoming home for American Development. Many people that were drawn to Pennsylvania were servants whether, for sometimes 4 years or however long, it took to pay off debt for their travel across the Atlantic. If they weren’t servant, they were slaves who almost had no chance of freedom. Servants had a chance to become free after paying off their debts with work, but not the same for slaves.

Many great minds have discussed their opinions on freedom and or slavery. During the 1800’s, many people, such as Frederick Douglass, became known as abolitionists, or those who oppose slavery. A major speaking point of these abolitionists were the obligations of freedom. Yet, several years later, there was still the discussion of the obligations of freedom. Two men that discussed this topic and made an everlasting impact were John F. Kennedy as well as Martin Luther King Jr. John F. Kennedy discussed it in his Inaugural Address and King discussed it in his letter, Letter from Birmingham City Jail. In the texts, Letter from Birmingham City Jail by Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address the topic of the obligations of freedom is frequently noted.
It should be noted that the Declaration of Independence made it clear that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Although this progressive view was shared by many of the members of the Constitutional Convention, it is clear that the original text of the American Constitution is rather pro-slavery and up to a certain point protects the slave-owners. It is of utmost importance to note that the words slavery/slave are not used in the text of the Constitution.
Masters had rights too of course. They could treat a slave anyway they wanted to. They could be abusive, friendly or do anything they wanted to the slave. They could defend themselves against slaves and could kill him/her if the master provided the courts with a good reason.

Steve Galster and his team are in Thailand to help save thousands of women from being forced into sex slavery. Central Asia has earned millions of dollars from forcing woman and young children from being trafficked. In Bangkok, Thailand sex becomes one of the lucrative comities that many foreign men go for. Most of the clients are Middle Eastern men and they go to Thailand for sex and most women do the work willingly. One of the biggest well-known organizations that operate human trafficking is the Uzbeks. The Uzbeks hold their organization in the Grace Hotel, where there are a lot of Middle Eastern men. They lure women from their poor countries and promise them a good job, only soon to discover that they have been tricked and forced onto the streets to work as prostitutes. The Thai Government Unit that does Black Op Operation work and they are there to help Steve to take down the Uzbeks. They are a professionally trained team that infiltrate and take down mean powerful individuals and organizations. Operation Graceland depends on Steve's team to help dozen of women from being trafficked. They capture one of the members and find out that he is one of top ties in the ring; they threatened him with jail time to see if he would become an informant. They later takedown two more members in the rings and continue until they bust the whole organization.
Although in the 19th century many slave owners had strict rules and control over slaves, enslaved individuals established their own way to go against the hardships they were placed in. Most people would have thought it was dangerous to defy a slave owner due to the consequences that were placed against those who resisted. Those who took part in the resistance, weighed their freedom higher than the risk of punishment. The various ways of effectively resisting the slave owner’s control are demonstrated in Harriet Jacobs’ Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl.
By 1860, nearly 3,950,528 slaves resided in the United States (1860 census). Contrary to popular belief, not all slaves worked in hot and humid fields. Some slaves worked as skilled laborers in cities or towns. The slaves belonged to different social or slave classes depending on their location. The treatment of the slaves was also a variable that changed greatly, depending on the following locations: city, town or rural. Although all slaves were products of racial views, their living conditions, education, and exposure to ideas differed greatly depending on their social classes and if they lived in a rural or urban setting.
My critique comes from a commentary titled " Did We Sell Each Other Into Slavery?" by Oscar L. Beard. The author is a consultant in African Studies. The commentary was written May 24, 1999, which contains a discussion about slave trading. The author wants readers to understand the history of slave trading before making any type of judgements. The author feels African American character has been negatively effected because of the remarks made about slavery. My discussion will hold two views. The views will show that I agree we did sell each other to slavery in some forms and I agree Whites had some responsibility for slavery too.
