Site Visit The site I visited was one close to home, the St. Clair Boardwalk. It is the longest freshwater boardwalk in the world. It was a place I often got to visit growing up, never thinking of it as a tourist attraction, but as I was visiting home, I began to see how it functioned as a tourist attraction. Many people come from all over to walk along this quarter mile boardwalk that displays the half of a mile wide St.Clair River. Along with the board walk, a huge plot of grass sits behind it, where people can sit and relax as they watch the freighters pass by or watch the annual firework show or Boat Races. Not only do people come to this boardwalk to walk along the world’s longest freshwater boardwalk, but people also come to freighter …show more content…
This once calm town turns into a busting and packed city. The residents definitely feel the impact of these events. Traffic jams are very common during these time. This is a place that never experiences any sort of traffic when these events aren't being held. Parked cars are along the streets for miles away from the event. Roads are completely blocked off. Residents experience noise pollution during the music events held here. I live a couple of miles away from the boardwalk and during the music events held here I can hear the music all the way from home. The city has to work hard to accommodate all of its visitors. It places garbage bins all along the boardwalk. It sets up porta potties located close to the boardwalk. They even hire people to make sure everything goes good. More police and border patrol are …show more content…
On television there are local ads for the Boat Races and the Art Fair. They show things like boats racing down the river and show families together enjoying their time and along with the dates that the event is being held. They send the message of the destination being somewhere very family friendly. Along with television ads, the Boardwalk also uses flyers to advertise the events. They show pictures of all of the different boats that are going to be in the race that year along with the name of the band that will be performing during that night. Not only does this advertising attract people who live relatively near the attraction looking for something to do, but it also attracts the boating niche or that can live from farther away. Often during boat races, there are many people from all over the country visiting the boat races that travelled here for this events. They are generally from the boating niche. Many of the boats and the crew that came with them often came from different states too. Aside from advertising for its events, the boardwalk doesn’t advertise itself too
What is going to happen to Three Mile Island? Should it be shut down or should it remain open? I
The whole island is in the shape of a giant square with white sandy beaches full of people sunbathing, swimming and fishing right on the shoreline. From the end of the hot pavement parking lot to shore of the beach is an ocean of soft white sand. The pearlescent white sand seems to know how to invade every nook and cranny almost as if it enjoys it. Walking around the beach on the fluffy whiteness surrounding the parking lot, the seagulls are fighting over scraps of food on the ground. “Sandy beach ecosystems provide invaluable services to humankind. Their functions have been exploited through history, with significant anthropogenic effects (Lucrezi, 2015)”. This white sandy beach is a beautiful refuge from the mundane grind of everyday life. The smell of the misty ocean air mixed with the sound of seagulls hovering above and kids playing is a tonic for the mind. The feel of the sand between their toes and the waves crashing over them as people swim in the water, or the jerk of a fishing pole when someone is catching a fish makes Fred Howard Park one of the best places to relax. Standing on the beach looking out on the water, people are kayaking and windsurfing. The lifeguards watching vigilantly in their bright red shirt and shorts, blowing their whistles when they see someone being unsafe. After a long day of swimming and laying around visitors head back over the soft white sand to the showers, in order to rinse off the menacing sand that clings to everything like a bad habit. Everyone rushes over the hot pavement burning their feet to reach their cars so they can put away their beach paraphernalia which is still covered in the white sand, nearly impossible to completely leave behind, so when they get home it serves as a reminder of where they were that
There are many different types of coasts that exist throughout the United States. The south shore of Long Island has a unique types of coast known as a barrier beach. Barrier beaches are long narrow land forms that are composed of sand and other lose sediments. These sediments are brought together by the actions of waves, currents and storm surges. Barrier beaches are subject to constant changes by the same forces. Sand is constantly eroded in one area an deposited in another. Barrier coasts are important for a number of reasons; they protect the mainland of Long Island from the open ocean and flooding during storms, for recreational use and the unique ecosystems which exist on barrier beaches.
I am visiting Kemah Boardwalk for the day; I came down from Central Texas to visit my friend, Astronaut Rex, at NASA. He recommended I visit the Boardwalk as it is a very nice tourist destination and it sits on the coast. Driving up to Kemah I see there is a very nice waterfront hotel that sits on, what I will call a plaza, it has restaurants around it and lots of entertainment. I see rollercoasters and I am very excited to be here, the view promises lots of fun for children and adults alike. I walk up and first thing I see is a band playing under a tent. The music is upbeat and it sets the mood for dancing. I see a few people bopping their heads to the beat of the music. I see others cheering the band. As I keep walking and reach a little pond where you can pay to drive little boats around, it’s a boating race! Lots of children are lined up on the edge, I see that I have to put two quarters in the machine that has a wheel and a number, the number corresponds to the boat you are controlling. I pay for my daughter to race her boat and the race begins. My daughter is winning she is jum...
Days before the festival, Upstate New York was ready. The city, county and state officials knew what to expect, and felt confident in their abilities to handle traffic, crowd control, sanitation, medical emergencies, and any unexpected problems.
...s cool all year round. Park goers have the opportunity to hike and climb around the ledges and explore the caverns (“Ritchie Ledges”). While the natural beauty of this park is the main attraction, the man made attractions should not be overlooked. The Ohio Erie Canal Towpath is the man made attraction that offers the most recreation to park goers. This trail follows the exact path of the historic Erie Canal. People have the ability to walk, run, cross country ski and bike on this trail (“Ohio Erie Canal Towpath”).
Car accidents pose as the second most noticeable inconvenience for commuters in Miami. In many occasions traffic accidents cause a hold-up of traffic. Take for example, the oil taker explosion on I-95 on November 6, 2006. A massive tanker truck, carrying loads of fuel, flipped over the highway over pass and onto NW 135 Street, a street that runs through one of the busiest commercial areas. The accident occurred on a Monday morning, while the rest of Miami was commuting to work.

I was raised in Jacksonville, Florida; “the river city” as most natives call it. As stated by the St. Johns River Water Management Disctrict the city has this nickname because it is home to the largest river in Florida, the St. Johns. The St. Johns is also one of the two rivers in the United States that flows north (2013). Since I was surrounded by it my whole life, activities involving water were very common. One of my family’s favorite things to do is have a fishing tournament for Easter on my grandparents’ dock on the St. Johns River.
The Department of Homeland Security as an umbrella department has taken in many organizations to complete their primary duties of national security. To complete their mission on boarder protection and movement from international waters the DHS had the U.S. Coast Guard assigned to it. “The Coast Guard has many duties, including the protection of coastal and inland waterways, environmental protection, the interdiction of contraband, and maritime law enforcement.” (White, 2014) Since the Coast Guard ...
Buckeye Lake is a very important place to a lot of people in central Ohio. After the Ohio Canal was shut down in 1894 the lake became a state park, with the lake itself covering 4000 acres and having thirty miles of shoreline (Buckeye Lake, para. 12). The lake became a vacation spot for families across central Ohio, looking for a day or weekend of leisure, earning it the nickname “Playground of Ohio”, a place close to home where they could swim and play in the water. It became even more popular when cottages, hotels, businesses, and even an amusement park starting popping up along the banks of the

Another place in Wildwood that is always packed on a hot, sticky day is the beach. There are people all over the place on towels, underneath umbrellas, and in the ocean. People laughing, complaining about the heat, and running into the ocean. You can also hear the ice cream man going up and down the beach screaming, “ Get your Fudgy Wudgy Bars.” People usually spend hours at the beach sun bathing, swimming, having lunch, reading, and sometimes sleeping. The ocean is the best part of the beach though. Determining how far you go out, the waves get bigger and bigger. There are teenagers, kids, and even adults surfing and boogie boarding.

The problem with contaminated beaches will soon take effect on everyone. The main causes that pollution creates in the beaches are from heavy rainfall, natural disasters, and plant malfunctions. Government agencies cannot control the weather, but they can control what goes into the water. In the United States, the number one reason why beaches are closed down are due to contamination in the water that may be harmful and are left untreated. The arising problem with the beach is that the industries are producing toxic chemicals and tossing the unwanted waste into the ocean. Also, the public are recklessly throwing their trash out into the streets. A prime example to demonstrate this is, if someone was trying to throw a bottle into a street trashcan but missed, he/she is unlikely to pick up after himself/herself if no one was around to see it. This scenario causes pollution to the sidewalks. When mother nature disasters occur, these waste products will end up in the storm drains and into the sewage system. The overflow of debri from the cities can flow into the rivers and if not preserved, it can flow into the ocean. The rivers will then carry these human caused waste into t...
