Sister Crum Well, Sister Crum, I could use as much help as I possibly can get right now. As I'm sending this email all around me are people in the Library talking about assignments and classes and all the important stuff that I'm missing out on. I've been waiting for a response from my academic adviser but he hasn't quite responded so I think it'd be better if I just went to the advising center and simply talked to him. Instead of taking the test I think I'd be better if did math 101 of which is basic algebra, I think I need it, however, Classes are full and I'm on the waiting list. I remember you kept on pressing about how I need to register early and stuff and as much as I took it seriously I just didn't know how it would affect me. Unfortunately

An exhibition of Japanese woodblock Cassatt attends in Paris inspired her as she took upon creating a piece called, “Maternal Caress” (1890-91), a print of mother captured in a tender moment where she caress her child in an experimental dry-point etching by the same artist who never bared a child her entire life. Mary Bryant was in the group of the first convicts (and the only female convict) to ever escape from the Australian shores. Mary escaped from a penal colony which often is a remote place to escape from and is a place for prisoners to be separated. The fact that Bryant escaped from Australia suggests that she was a very courageous person, this was a trait most convicts seemed to loose once they were sentenced to transportation. This made her unique using the convicts.

St. Teresa was born in Avila, Spain on March 28, 1515. She was baptized as Teresa Sanchez de Cepeda y Ahumada. At a young age she would often give gifts to the poor and pray. Her father and her mother were both Catholics which inspired her to do the same. Her father was a very strict man a demanded her to never lie, while her mother told her to lie and comforted her. This created a ton of turmoil in the family and made St. Teresa end up loving her mother more due to her father’s severe strictness. St. Teresa felt that everything she was doing was wrong. During her teens her mother passed away leaving her to deal with her father by herself and she was relieved of some of the pain by turning to the Virgin Mary for comfort. In her late teen years
From a glance, we see the women of the nineteenth century as devoted wives, educators of their children, poised members of society, and the religious cornerstone of their families. However, as Texas became a “land for the taking” in the early 1820s, this “cult of domesticity,” the idea that the lady cultivated Piety, Purity, Submissiveness, and Domesticity in her home and in public, became altered as many of these women, striped away from all that they had ever known, dutifully followed their husbands to an unknown land, never knowing if they would see their families and friends again. They faced the frontier, and sometimes they faced it alone. Some would face the frontier concerning the wild, while some faced the frontier of dealing with the “southern way,” and others would face a frontier of their own internal battles with the subject of death. But as each woman faced different challenges in the prospective years they settled in Texas, what might have appeared as an exceedingly difficult challenge for one woman might not have seemed quite as difficult to another. We also see that some of these women had no choice but to abandon the “cult” and

Elizabeth Bishop was born on February 8, 1911, in Worcester, Massachusetts and died on October 6, 1979. When she was less than a year old, her father died, and shortly thereafter, her mother was committed to a mental asylum. Bishop was first sent to live with her maternal grandparents in Nova Scotia and later lived with paternal relatives in Worcester and South Boston. After a childhood and adolescence marked by asthma and other psychic and bodily ailments, as well as frequent domestic removals and changes of caregiver, Bishop finally made it to a good preparatory school and then, with family help, to Vassar College. She also found her life mentor, Marianne Moore, in Vassar College. Bishop had an independent income in early adulthood, as a result of an inheritance from her deceased father, that did not run out until the end of her life. With this inheritance, Bishop was able to travel widely with a violent aimlessness through France, England, Ireland, Mexico, Morocco, Key West, and elsewhere without worrying about employment. She wrote frequently about her love of travel in poems like “Questions of Travel” and “Over 2000 Illustrations and a Complete Concordance.” (famouspoetsandpoems.com)

She does not trust people easily, but this doesn’t stop her from being friendly, funny, and open. She calls herself crazy too, but crazy as in fun. She presents a carefree, relaxed, joyful, childlike manner. She does what makes her happy and what makes her happy is what she does. She is an outdoorsy person who values nature, a characteristic unique to her. Curiosity and observations fill her life and leads her on adventures making her open-minded to new ideas. She is content. She is simplistic. She is a
I will be advancing an argument on the early representations of Sarah Baartman in comparison to her representation in our modern society, beginning in the course of the early eighteenth century. In my research, I will use Sarah Baartman as a means of showing how medical and scientific discourses work to construct images of sexual and racial differences. After her death in in 1815, her body was given to the comparative anatomist, Georges Cuvier, who dissected and preserved the body as an object of scientific research. The question of how Sarah Baartman was both raw material and a product of scientific racism forms the focus of this research task.
