On the contrary, women still get paid less than men. According to CNN Money, “men still make more than women in most professions -- considerably more in some occupations than others, according to a new study by the job search site Glassdoor”. Although we like to comfort ourselves with the idea that we have gotten our rightfully earned rights, we had not been given bathroom breaks until 1998. Furthermore, employees are still afraid to have a voice in the workforce. Employers establish rules that let laborers know that they are inferior.
THOMAS JEFFERSON, author of the Declaration of Independence, was born on April 13, 1743 and grew up on the family plantation at Shadwell in Albermarle County, Virginia. His father was Peter Jefferson, who, with the aid of thirty slaves, tilled a tobacco and wheat farm of 1,900 acres and like his fathers before him, was a justice of the peace, a vestryman of his parish and a member of the colonial legislature. The first of the Virginia Jefferson's of Welsh extraction, Peter in 1738 married Jane Randolph. Of their ten children, Thomas was the third. Thomas inherited a full measure of his father's bodily strength and stature, both having been esteemed in their prime as the strongest men of their county. He also inherited his father's inclination to liberal politics, his taste for literature and his aptitude for mathematics. The Jefferson's were a musical family; the girls sang the songs of the time, and Thomas, practicing the violin assiduously from boyhood, became an excellent performer.
Prior to the decade, the Artisan system of employment was the most common. Women were not sent away at a young age to become an apprentice. They were responsible for staying at home to learn how to be the caretaker of the home. Women were able to pursue economic independence when the Factory system was introduced in America. The creation of unskilled labor make it possible for women to work beside men in a business. This created a new battleground for equality between the sexes, though it was not an easy fight. Only 3% of women were granted permission to join a union in this time period (Shi 63). The Supreme Court supported the argument that men were naturally superior to women. They were stronger and able to endure longer working hours. Many women agreed with this; and some did not. Whether in agreement or not, most women did not believe that they should receive less pay because of their naturally weaker physique. Leonora Barry complained that men’s “earnings count from nine to fifteen dollars a week and upward…[women’s] work of

More held many different positions of great status in England and held himself to an equally high standard of judgment to always live out a life of great morality. Sir Thomas More’s fought to uphold the dignity and beliefs of the holy Church in a time of adversity and attack upon the Roman Catholic Church.
When More died it sent a message to the public that the Kin was wrong in what he was doing. As More died in front of a lot of people, it certainly showed to the public that it was honorable and he put his point across in the clear way. “….but because I would not bend to the marriage” (pg. 78) More is simply stating that he wouldn’t agree with the King for the clear intention of staying alive.
He took his teaching duties very seriously, while he was preparing lectures for his charge on variety an of topics about science. The first scientific work dates were all from this period. It involves topics, which would continue to occupy him throughout his life. In 1571, he began publication of his track. Thomas More was born in London in 1478. He studied at Oxford where he took a profound love of classical literature. In Utopia, More shows his own skills in humanism. In this story, modeled after Plato's Republic, More examines his culture against a hypothetical culture he invents. His Utopia varies greatly from both his society and our society today. Four ways Utopia differs from our society are social system, attitude towards jewelry, marriage customs, and religion.
In 1162, Henry II, king of England, appointed Thomas Becket, as Archbishop of Canterbury. This was the most important religious position in England. No-one was surprised by Henry’s choice as both he and Thomas were very good friends. They enjoyed hunting, playing jokes and socialising together. Becket was known to be a lover of wine and a good horse rider. Henry II loved to ride as well but his personality was troubled by his fearsome temper. He tried to keep his temper under control by working very hard as it distracted him from things that might sparked off his temper.
The average woman gets paid 77 cents to every dollar that a man with the same job gets paid (Still A Man’s Labor Market). This can be attributed to the affects of discrimination since childhood, including discrimination by the enforcement of societal norms at home, discrimination in education, and finally discrimination in the labor market. All of this labor related discrimination affects women later in life as to whether they have as good of opportunities as others, experience poverty, obtain a secure retirement, and whether single mothers can provide well enough for their children.
There are nearly as many women as there are men working, yet, as it was discovered in 2011, on average, a woman will only earn seventy-seven cents for every dollar that a man earns. Women owned businesses make up for over a quarter of all national businesses and earn more than one point two trillion dollars (“Assessing the Past, Taking Stock of the Future” 6). Since many women are now becoming are the primary sources of income in the household, making less that a man does not only negatively affect families, but also the overall economy suffers as well. These women, among many others, are the ones who end up purchasing the supplies that go toward improving communities and stimulating the economy. There is no reason that the general public should stand for this. Women should be treated equally to men in today’s American society based on their biological compositions, psychological profiles and contributions to history.
Thomas More was a very respected individual, theologian, and statesman around the time of King Henry VIII. King Henry appointed Thomas the Lord Chancellor of England as well as Wales in 1529 in order to replace Thomas Wolsey who did not see eye to eye with King Henry. The primary influence on Sir Thomas’s thoughts and actions was his humanist catholic faith while working tirelessly to restore christendom and was a devout catholic much like King Henry. Sir Thomas was one of the most honored people in England along with Wales at the time: Without a doubt the most respected statesman then, and possibly the most respected statesman of all time.
In addition, women are paid less than men for the same type of work. According to Lean In, Sheryl Sandberg mentions that women were paid fifty-nine cents for every dollar men were paid in 1996, but women protested to raise the compensation to seventy-seven cents (6). This means that even though a woman and a man perform the same work such as an engineer does, both do the same assignments and have the same responsibilities in the technology place, men are paid twenty three cents more than women. Moreover, women suffer from “gender discount” which means women have to pay for being part of the workplace or society ...
From the beginning of history and to this day women still get paid less than the average man, but why? Whoever said that women are incapable of good work performance? Whoever said that women do not have the same responsibilities to maintain? What really makes a women’s work inferior to men? The answer is nothing. Today, women are depended on just as much as men, and are capable of performing at their level. However, a full-time working woman earns only seventy-seven cents for every dollar a man makes. These days women make up half the workplace in our society; they work just as hard and for the same reasons. Women deserve to be paid at an equal rate as men because they are relied on to uphold the same responsibilities and are just as qualified to perform at a man’s level.
Among the unjust treatments in a workplace, the one most heard of is unequal pay. Women are being paid less than men despite having the same job and producing the same result. In a research led by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, it states that “in 2014, female full-time worker made only 79 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of 21 percent” and there won’t be equal pay between genders until 2059 or 44 years later (“Pay Equity”). In history, women were not allowed to work and their job were to be full time housewives. As time passed, women started realizing that they are able to go out into the work force and they have the ability just as men do. Women fought for the right to work and they received what they wanted but their salary was different from what was given to men. They were discriminated because of their gender and women were treated unfairly simply just because they were
Women have fought for equal rights since the early 1820s and 1830s. There is a strong commitment to equality between women and men in the law. Equality among men and women has gone on for several centuries and nothing has been done about it. Providing equal rights within men and women may decrease pressure on both men and women of what their stereotypical jobs should be. If equal rights would release pressure on all humans, then why are women treated as the subdominant sex? Women should have the same rights as men and to do this it is up to the entire human race to work together to fight for equality between men and women.
