In America, 60% of all families live on a fixed income while 75% of those families are run by a single parent. The majority of the single-parent families are run by a female. For the many American children, they don’t have a father figure in their lives. That means that those single mothers must teach their children all on their own. It’s especially hard when those single mothers must teach their children all on their own. It’s especially hard when single mothers must teach their sons mainly because females can’t relate to males in every which way and vice versa with single fathers and their daughters. Two examples of this situation are rappers, Tupac and Kanye West. They had two different upbringings, but both had a similar dilemma when it came to their mothers. Nevertheless, they both adored their mothers very much despite going through trials and tribulations. Despite Kanye’s and Tupac’s mothers raising their sons differently, they both tried to make ends meet with or without help. Kanye West was born in Atlanta, Georgia and according …show more content…
to the song, “Hey Mama”, he says that, “He was three years old when he and his mom moved to the Chi”. Kanye West’s mother, Donda West was a single mother, which meant that she only had one source of income at the time. Donda would have to work overtime just to keep the lights on. Being single, Donda would date guys to try and give Kanye a father-figure and also to help ease the struggle of paying bills. Since Kanye West was the only child, he was spoiled a lot during his childhood. She ensured that Kanye did not go without anything that he wanted. Kanye’s problem arose during his years in college. He decided during his collegiate years that he would no longer continue or dropout. This decision didn’t fly by with his mother. His mother wanted Kanye to continue his education and gain his doctorate. Although fate had other plans for Mr. West, Kanye West appreciated his mother to the point that he made a song thanking her titled, “Hey Mama”. On the on the other side of the coin, we have Tupac, who grew up a little bit differently than Kanye.
Tupac was born in East Harlem, NY, moved to Oakland, California. Tupac was not the richest compared to many of the kids. He grew up with his baby sister, who also had to go through the pains that Tupac also went through. Their mother, Afeni Shakur, was a single poor mother who tried to make ends meet while trying to supply for herself and her kids simultaneously. Afeni was a crack addict who would always make miracles despite what Tupac thought. Tupac’s mother couldn’t keep her son from off of the streets. Tupac hung around negative influences, sold drugs, and just couldn’t escape the police. After he moved out of his mother’s house, he started to help his mom by sending her money through her mailbox. Despite all the hell he put her through and vice versa, he loves her very much, hence the reason why the song, “Dear Mama” was
made. Now that analyzed the two artists, it’s time to deal with their differences and similarities between the two. Kanye grew up as the only child while Tupac grew up with his baby sister. Kanye’ mom spoiled as a child while Tupac wasn’t as fortunate. Despite some minor differences, there are many similarities between the two. For one, the two struggled with school, but both two eventually got their much needed education later down the road. Both of their mothers had to work late just to make ends meet. Both two of the mothers had gotten their education. Both Tupac and Kanye West loved their mothers enough to help supply their needs when they became famous rappers. Obviously, the artists made songs that showed the struggles that they went through with their mothers and how they loved them regardless.
Conformity can be very crucial, infact a lot of people eventually start hurting themselves or doing drugs just because they don't feel themselves anymore. Why can't society change? why can't that one kid that always follows everyone in the back can turn into the kid that just hangs with the people they really wanna hang with?We need to embrace ourselves so we can stop all this conformity from consuming us.Tupac was a nonconformist, he always did what made him happy and always told the truth.
In the short story “Tupac and My Non-Thug Life” by Jenee Desmond-Harris she talks about the death of Tupac Shakur and the impact it had on her and her friend Thea. I think its interesting that although Harris and Tupac are polar opposites she uses the connection of their race and applys it to this “coming of age” journey. Harris expresses that Tupacs music made her feel apart of something and that she valued the racial equality being voiced through his music. I can relate to this on multiple levels. For example when I’m feeling down and listen to sad music that i can relate to. Listening to music and lyrics that you can relate to brings you a sense of belonging like you arent the only one that has ever felt this way.

In one of the chapters, ‘Where Did Our Love Go?’ the author reveals how blacks in America use the music to express their anger and commitment to emerge as great people in an unfair community. Most songs are written to educate the society on the negative effects of racism. They encourage the society to love one another and embrace unity. The human nature is founded through a social platform where philosophers claim that people were created to love one another and live with peace and unity. Through this book, it is clear that the blacks in the hip-hop generation are money minded. However, this is expected in a world where the economy is tough. The author claims that the youth are the people who are majorly affected by racism. Many of them have been arrested for pity mistakes which are magnified in the courts due to the impression that the society has on the black people. They engage in dirty activities like drug dealings that that put them on the wrong side of the

In the same fashion that Elvis defined Rock ‘n’ Roll; Tupac Shakur defined the hip-hop music scene, as we know it today. What made Tupac (also known as 2Pac, or Makaveli) so special were his enormous talent, his on screen friendly looks, and the sense that he was “real” and talked the talk, while walking the walk. Tupac was born on June 16, 1971, Tupac Amaru Shakur. He was named after Tupac Amaru, the Inca Indian that was sentenced to death by the Spaniards. He was originally from Brooklyn, New York. Aside from that, he and his mother also moved many times while they lived together in New York City. I grew up in a single parent home not having a good relationship with my father. Although I've lived with my mother, I've always been around my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins; and I never really hung out much with my mother. I know being in a single parent home has impacted my school performance and emotions. Some children of single parent homes have challenges related to academics, violence, self-esteem, and emotions? You may ask, how do I know that African American youth (of single parent homes) are having these challenges? I know because I too experienced the same struggles. Reports show that teens of single parent homes have an increase likelihood of dropping out of high school (Ricciuti, 2004). If teens drop out of high school, they will have a difficult time finding a good paying job, and they may get involved in criminal activities. I know some teens that only live with their mothers and join gangs because of their stressful home environments. For example, one teen sells drugs to help his mother pa...
It is so hard to become a rapper. But it is harder to become a Great Rapper. I believe Tupac is a great rapper. Not only a great rapper, but the greatest rapper. Like Snoop Dogg had said, “Tupac was many different things at once. Hardheaded and intellectual, courageous and afraid, revolutionary and….oh yeah, don’t get it f***ed up, gangsta.” To be a great rapper, you must have impact, commercial success, be good at song writing, a lot of performances and live shows and lastly, hella good rapping. The first song I heard from tupac was “ambitions az a ridah and all eyes on me” and it was real original so I went and listened to ‘Brenda got a baby’ which made me think “dammmmm he good, he good as hell”
Reviewing single-parent families, the challenges seem to outweigh the advantages. Since a majority of single parents are mothers, all the burdens normally carried out by two people fall upon women (Lauer, 2012). Raising a child with both parents is a hard enough task, but being on your own creates issues within issues, no matter what your race or
Some children may be less fortunate in a two-parent household because only the father or mother is working. Single-parent homes have much stress with one person taken care of multiple children. “Households with two parents tend to have more money and some less tangible benefits, including less stress, more involvement from grandparents and less unexpected change”(Leonhardt). Children growing up in a two-parent home will grow older not knowing how to manage their household because everything done for them. Unlike children growing up in a single-parent home, more than likely being raised by their mother will be easier to them from their experience. Seeing their mother struggle hard but always got things done was a great motivation for both male and female. The boys will grow into looking for a woman that’s hard working like his mother. A female, on the other hand, will feel independent enough to not need any man’s help after watching her mother stay
