“Maybe there is a beast… maybe it's only us.”- William Golding, Lord of the Flies. In the book, Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, a plane full of british boys crashed and get stuck on an island. Along with being stranded without any adults, comes immature rivalries. The boys find themselves going through hardship when coping with the loses of their friends and trying to seek attention from near by planes or boats to get rescued. Each characters have distinct aspect to them that shows the readers how they are and how they make the novel different and interesting. Simon carries a unique aspect to himself that is very distinct from the rest of the characters in this novel. Simon is one of the more insightful character in this novel. Page 337 states, “Fancy thinking the beast was something you could hunt or kill! … You knew, didn't you? I'm part of you? Close, close, close. I'm the reason why it's no go? Why things are what they are?" This quotes shows how insightful Simon is. Simon is very knowledgeable and the other boys should listen to Simon and absorb it all. What …show more content…

He is able to point out things that no other character besides Piggy can notice. Golding states on page 140, “Simon, walking in front of Ralph, felt a flicker of incredulity—a beast with claws that scratched, that sat on a mountain-top, that left no tracks and yet was not fast enough to catch Samneric. However Simon thought of the beast, there rose before his inward sight the picture of a human, at once heroic and sick.” This quote shows how Simon gets it. He notices how the boys are becoming what they fear, the beast. No one else points it out besides him and Piggy. In fact, the boys actually kill Simon due to this. This shows how honest Simon is. The only thing that can stop him from speaking truth and to get the word out, is death. I feel like that says a lot about a person within
