There has always been a clash between blacks, whites, poor, wealthy. But in a way we are all the same. Our society has learned over the years that we shouldn’t judge others by their physical appearance or by what they do for a living. With the given passages from the books, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, and To Kill a Mockingbird (TKAM) by Harper Lee, readers can see connections between the two different books. They both have issues with people getting along and the two characters are learning which teaches the readers. Both books have strong connections throughout and teach readers great lessons.
In the book, The Outsiders there are two different groups. There are the socs and the greasers and they do not get along. The greasers are not as wealthy and seems rebellious in ways because of where they hang out and how they dress. The socs are known to be the wealthy rich kids who make good grades. So readers are introduced to two completely different types of people but we learn that they are not as different as we thought. In the book the …show more content…

In TKAM they are prejudice issues with blacks and whites. Same thing as the greasers and socs. Blacks are put down to be low class and ignored by whites. The narrator Scout learns that there is a difference but realizes that we are not so different after all. We learn this in the passage when she says, “No, everybody’s gotta learn, nobody’s born knowin’. That Walter’s as smart as he can be, he just gets held back sometimes because he has to stay out and help his daddy. Nothin’s wrong with him. Naw, Jem, I think there’s just one kind of folks. Folks.” Scout learns that people are smart in their own ways. Some people are book smart, others are street smart but we are all the same. We are all “folks” living life.
