Similarities Between Tikki Book And Movie

Without love there is no loyalty, and without loyalty, there is no bravery. In the book and movie of the story Rikki- Tikki- Tavi, they were neck and neck. Snake against mongoose, though one must surely die, neither will back down just yet. The book, Written By Rudyard Kipling, and the movie, produced by Julie Ross, generally both carry the same plot and main idea: After being washed out of his home, and cared for by a loving family of three, he wants to repay them, and in the process does an unforgettable act of service. Though both the mediums were exciting, there were also numerous similarities and differences between the book, and the movie, such as the banana scene, the scene where the family first found him, and the resolution.

In the book, the family gets the idea to give him a bite to eat to make him stay. Ted states that “Let’s give him something to eat, so he’ll stay!” (Ross 3:39) , and then Rikki goes on to say “It was a temptation to eat the whole banana…” (Ross 3:50). On the other hand, the book only states that, after his father says, “ Let’s give him something to eat” , the book quotes that they did not give him a banana, but: “ They gave him a little piece of raw meat.” (Kipling 144). The similarities of this are that both families come to the conclusion that they should feed him so he will stay, and that they do give him something to eat. The small difference is that the family in the movie gives him a banana, and in the book, they give him a piece of raw

In the resolution, Rikki- Tikki kills Nag in the bathroom during the night, and prepares himself for the now enraged Nagaina. With the thought in his mind that Nagaina would be guarding her eggs behind the melon bed, Darzee’s wife creates a diversion, and Rikki smashes all but one egg. “Rikki had found the cobra’s nest and had crushed, all but one, of the deadly eggs” (Ross 19:04). Kipling states that, “Teddy and his mother and father were there at early breakfast, but Rikki-tikki saw that they were not eating anything. They sat stone still, and their faces were white. Nagaina was coiled up on the matting by Teddy's chair, within easy striking distance of Teddy's bare leg, and she was swaying to and fro, singing a song of triumph.” and continues with, ‘"Son of the big man that killed Nag," she hissed, "stay still. I am not ready yet. Wait a little. Keep very still, all you three! If you move, I strike, and if you do not move, I strike. Oh, foolish people, who killed my Nag!"’ (Kipling 154). Although, be that as it may, the song of triumph that the movie says is “Son of the man that killed Nag, if you move, I strike, and if you do not move, I strike! Oh, foolish people!” (Ross 19:30). So, to wrap up, both of the mediums claim that Rikki- Tikki- Tavi smashed all of the eggs except one, and that Nagaina is at the veranda, wound up and ready to kill.
