Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You both have money, attention, and deal with women. Money and attention can change someone's life and how they act drastically. In Taming of the Shrew, Petruchio changed his ways because he was getting paid to give Katherine attention which also changed her into a nicer person and made her think she was less of a shrew. Patrick and Katherine in 10 Things I Hate About You also had similar but still different changes in their life because of money and attention.
Katherine changed over time in Taming of the Shrew because of the attention she got. “Please, dear, calm down. The meat was fine if you wanted to eat it.” Katherine said after she became less harsh and more loveable in a way. This also took place in 10 Things I Hate About You with Katherine. In the scene from the movie where Katherine was calling Joey names and “turned him down” in class was how Katherine was sort of a “shrew” in the beginning. She was stuck up and didn’t want anything new, but then

she got the attention she wanted all along. Once she had the attention she became a better person in ways but yet still different than Katherine from Taming of the Shrew. Petruchio from Taming of the Shrew like Patrick from 10 Things I Hate About You had gotten money for doing something to benefit someone else but also eventually benefitting them, although it was unintentional.
Yet Petruchio’s scenario differed from Patrick’s quiet a bit. Petruchio was doing a lifetime thing by marrying Katherine and in return he would get some of her families money because he would be apart of it. “…Will you say grace, sweet Kate, or shall I?” is what Petruchio said to Katherine after they had gotten married. Patrick on the other hand was just going to go on a couple dates with Katherine in exchange for money, but then he ended up actually “falling in love” with her, so it was a win-win for Patrick and the money had ended up changing and impacting him in a positive way. In the movie Patrick still went back to Katherine even after she pushed him away, so at this point the audience knew that Patrick wasn’t just in it for money and he did love
her. Money and attention not only impacted Petruchio, Patrick, and the Katherine’s but it also impacted, the people who gave the money and some of the attention. In 10 Things I Hate About You, the two people paying Patrick and also giving Katherine’s sister Bianca all the attention, both changed in the end because of the way Bianca reacted to all the attention and how her sister Katherine was impacted. In the end of the movie Joey, the one who was not only giving a lot of money, but also the attention had been negatively impacted because Bianca did not choose him. Also in Taming of the Shrew Bianca’s two suitors had been impacted differently after she was actually able to choose what she wanted. “ But there’s reason for me to look more closely at this schoolmaster. He acts like a man in love. But if Bianca is so vulgar as to stoop for any man she sees, the hell with her. Whoever wants her can have her. The first time I catch her straying, It’s over. End of Story” is what Hortensio said about Bianca. Money and attention are powerful things they can change someone's life and how they act drastically. While the novel Of mice and men and the film What’s eating Gilbert Grape have different plots and settings, the themes of the two stories are very comparable. The stories depict how taking care of people with disabilities is very challenging and the problems they encounter in their day to day activities. Gilbert (What’s eating Gilbert Grape) has the task of taking care of Arnie his brother and George (Of mice and men) takes care of his childhood friend Lennie. Both of this characters Arnie and Lennie have mental disabilities and rely on their caregivers in life. The responsibility of taking care of Arnie and Lennie is frustrating but George and Gilbert still love them. This paper aims to compare and contrast the novel Of Mice
Why is that money and power can changes an individual’s personality? Well, when some humans see something desirable and valuable that doesn’t belong to them, they will go to a great extent to have it. Whether, that is stealing, lying or even killing loved ones. This is simply described as greed. Greed and ambition is a common theme in both Shakespeare’s tragic play, Macbeth and the movie “A Simple Plan”. They both share the concept of wanting something and committing crime after crime to achieve it. Similarly, the main characters in both stories become greedy after finding something valuable and their spouse encourages them further. Once in control, the main characters are willing to do anything to keep possession, even if it means to kill love ones.
William Shakespeare’s comedies Much Ado About Nothing and Taming of the Shrew have a similar theme: they both contrast the stories of a mature couple and an immature couple. In Much Ado About Nothing Beatrice and Benedick, the mature couple, are trying to find the courage to love, while Hero and Claudio, the immature couple, are learning the importance of maturity within a relationship. In the same way, Katherina and Petruchio, the mature couple in Taming of the Shrew, are finding the capacity to love, while the Bianca and Lucentio, the immature couple, are learning that appearance isn’t everything in a relationship. I believe that the two mature female leads, Beatrice and Katherina, have some thought-provoking similarities and differences.
the murder of the king, but participates as well. One can see the change in Lady Macbeth
The two novels To Kill a Mockingbird and Of Mice and Men are better understood and more comprehensible with a bit of background knowledge of the 1930s. For example, racial injustice/ inequality in America in the 1930s can help the reader view these two novels from a different perspective; such as the laws, customs, and racism which took place back then. To begin with, these two very engaging novels have many similarities. They both share themes of courage, prejudice, racial injustice, and loneliness. They also both share topics that have to do with Jim Crow Laws and “mockingbird”- like characters such as Lennie, Boo Radley, and Tom Robinson. Some characters throughout these books show the trait of courage such as: Atticus, Mrs. Dubose, and
Ten Things I Hate About You is a 1999 film based upon the play The Taming of the Shrew written by William Shakespeare in 1593. The storyline of these two texts is about a boy named Cameron (or Lucentio in the play) who falls in love with Bianca, a popular girl at his school. Due to her father’s orders, she isn’t allowed to date anyone until her older sister Kat (known as Katharina in the play) does. The trouble is, Kat is the opposite of Bianca - unpopular and not intending to date anyone any time soon. In an attempt to solve this problem, Cameron persuades Joey (both Hortensio and Gremio in the play), a wealthy boy who also has feelings for Bianca, to pay Patrick (or
In the beginning of the play, Katherine resembles a shrew due to her rude remarks and actions towards others. For example, Kate builds up jealousy and ties up Bianca then strikes her. Questioning with envy Kate asks, “Of all thy suitors here I charge [thee] tell whom thou lov’st best. See thou dissemble not” (2.1.8-9). Kate reflects a
She is miserable and desperate because she wants a husband but does not like the way women are treated. In pursuit to be happy in life she decides to marry Petruchio. Petruchio tames her and her shrewish ways begin to fade away. She listens to her husband, obeys his commands, she does not talk back, and she agrees with everything he says. Katherine disguises being a shrew by taking up the role of a modern wife in that time.
many years. She is hurt and she seeks revenge. This is seen in Act II. Scene I, when Katherine sums up her own state: "I will go sit and weep." Till I can find an occasion of revenge" (35-36). It is an immature response. but the only one she knows, and it serves the dual purpose of cloaking her. hurt. The transformation, which she undergoes near the end of the play, is not one of character, but one of attitude. At the end of the play, we find out that her negative attitude becomes a positive one. & nbsp; The shrew is not a shrew at all beneath the surface. & nbsp; The play begins by introducing Katherine with her father's words of shame towards her when he offers his eldest daughter to the two suitors of Bianca. The audience is then given their first impression of Katherine.
In Taming of the Shrew Petruchio wants to meet and marry Katerina right away. When Petruchio arrives in Padua and visits Hortensio he states he is looking for a wife, Hortensio mentions Katerina and her father’s wealth and immediately Petruchio wants to meet Katerina’s father to talk about the dowry and wedding. In this scene Petruchio says, “I come to wive wealthily in Padua; If wealthily, then happily in Padua” (Shakespeare, Act 1 Scene 2 Lines 72-73), which shows Petruchio only wants the money and doesn’t care as much for true love. In 10 Things I Hate About You, Patrick is offered money to date Kat in which he accepts the deal. In this scene Patrick is confronted by Joey being asked and offered money to date Kat as he is her “equal”, Patrick takes the money and goes on with the plan. Patrick is offered $30 by Joey, and says “We go to the movies that’s 15 bucks, we get popcorn that’s $53, and raisinets $75” (Junger), this shows Patrick taking advantage of the offer, and since Patrick is obtaining more he’s willing to take on the challenge of attempting to date Kat. The major difference between the two scenarios is Petruchio will obtain his money from Baptista’s dowry, but Patrick is obtaining his money from people asking him to do a favour. These points show how money influences Petruchio and Patrick’s
Shakespeare touches on Kate's changing character and allows her to undergo three phases: Kate's character in the beginning, the methods Petruicho uses to tame Kate and the final outcome (how Kate has changed).
Kate never finds out that Petruchio was paid to marry her. Petruchio and Patrick both use deceitful tactics in order to be with their respective loves. They disguise their true feelings and motives for being with their girl. Both Kat and Katherine fall in love with the man who was paid to be with her.
How does one describe a shrew? Is a shrew a woman who challenges her husband and is disobedient, or is it just simply an independent woman who has her own mindset. In both, The Taming of the Shrew and 10 things I hate about you, they portray Katherine -the shrew- in similar but diverse ways in her attitude, relationship with Patrick/Petruchio, and her effect on the plot.
The character that changed the most in the novel King of Torts is clay carter. Who is a public defender working at a very busy law office in Washington D.C. In the beginning of the novel Clay carter just wrapped up a three year long case that he lost and only makes enough to survive. Clay gets assigned to another case that looks hopeless for him and his defendant. I believe that clay has changed throughout this novel because he started with nothing and was so humble. He then started up his own company and was making an enormous amount of money and then got to greedy and lost everything.
Katherine reveals this attitude in Act 2 Scene 1, lines 31-35, "nay, now I see she is your treasure, she must have a husband; I must dance barefoot on my wedding day, and for your love for her, lead the apes to hell." Talk not to me, I will sit and weep!.. " This anger is not concealed, it serves to provide motivation as to why a rational person would rebuke Petrucchio so rudely upon first encountering him. Katherine surely realizes that Petruchio is interested in her for ulterior motives other than love. Be it purse that the dowry will bring or the actions of an insincere lunatic who, "woo's a thousand.
