Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a medieval romance which is defined as a storie of adventure in which the main parts are played ​by knights, kings, or distressed ladies, acting most often under the ​impulse of love, religious faith, or, in many, mere desire for adventure. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight supernatural is shown throughout the story. An example is that the green knight is glowing green and when Gawain accepts his challenge and cuts his head off the green knight is still alive. Another example of the supernatural is the green girdle that keeps people from death to whoever wears it.

While Gawain goes on the quest to find the green knight before his time is up so he does not break a promise. Since he has a strict code of conduct to not break a promise this shows another example to why the story is a medieval romance. Because the main characters are Knights.While he is on his quest he stays the night at a castle and Gawain and the king make a bargain the king was going to go hunting and whatever he brought back he would give to Gawain and what Gawain received that day he would give to the king. …show more content…

After the woman wants him to take her green girdle. Since it would protect him from death Gawain at first hesitates but takes it. Although he did not see that it was a test and decides to take the girdle and not take it to the king this breaks his code of chivalry. Gawain than continues his quest to search for the green chapel when he finds the chapel.
