Nathaniel Hawthorne and Flannery O' Connor are both are American writers. Hawthrone was born in Salem, Massachusetts while O' Connor was from Savannah, Georgia. Both of these authors lost their fathers at a very young age. Hawthorne and O'Connor like being secluded when they did most of their writing. They also used central literary symbols to strengthen the story and the meaning behind their stories.
