Good Parenting This essay is an analysis of the comparison between the poems “My Papa’s Waltz” by Roethke, and “Those Winter Sundays” by Robert Hayden, and also which role of the two fathers are close to being the best one when it comes to good parenting.This analysis will emphasize the importance of good parenting, and it is long term affects on children. A good parent is someone who will put their children’s needs before their own. Just because someone people are labeled as parents, that does not mean they are good ones. It was always the males who took the job of feeding the family with the money they get from their jobs, and it was the female job to take care of the household, that is why in these two poems the authors break down those norms that the society had set up for the people by switching the female, and the male role in the family. Both of the poems are considered to be a confessional poetry. Good parenting shows up as an end result of an adult who is a benefit, not burden, on society the author emphasized, “Good parenting can optimize an adolescent’s potential, whereas suboptimal parenting may contribute to youth participation in high-risk behaviors. Because of the serious adverse health and social consequences of high-risk behaviors in adolescents, including infection, injury, long term impairment, and death, understanding the factors that influence and moderate these behaviors is crucial to the development of prevention strategies.” (Dornbusch). A good parent is someone who will show love to their children by telling them that they love them, in both of the poems the authors do not show
