I think that I am kind of similar to Katniss and Prometheus because they think of the life ahead of them and what worries they need to be worried about than to be able to look behind them and be afraid. Katniss and Prometheus actually have a lot in common. Prometheus and Katniss both look of what is ahead of them to be prepared for it. Prometheus is very busy providing things much like Katniss who provides food for her family by hunting. Katniss and Prometheus both see suffering animals that are struggling to survive so they take them into their own hands.
“Mankind shall have fire” in both Prometheus's story and Katniss. Prometheus wants to ruin Zeus and burn everything and then in the Hunger Games Katniss gets burnt from the Gamemakers putting
fire where she was so she was also dealing with fire. “Prometheus hurried back to his own land” to get away from Zeus and avoid the conflict just like Katniss avoided conflict whenever she entered the games and she got a knife thrown at her. Or whenever Thresh took down someone for her because Katniss respected his sister Rue. Point is they both go to a safe place to avoid the future than to stay there and get hurt. “Prometheus called some of the shivering people from their caves and built a fire for them, and showed them how to warm themselves by it and use it to cook their food. Men and women gathered round the fire and were warm and happy, and thankful to Prometheus for the wonderful gift which he had brought to them.” Just like Katniss and Rue whenever they were in the tree and then Rue helped Katniss out by telling Katniss about the tracker jackers. Katniss and Rue also had a very good relationship by helping each other with support and wants to defeat everyone else. But unlike Prometheus, Katniss survives and Prometheus gets hung off the side of a mountain.
In Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, Guy Montag is a firefighter who burns illegal owned books, but later on begins to question his profession and an in turn, his life causing him to question the government's actions. The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins tells the story of Katniss Everdeen, and how her life changes when her little sister is reaped into the games, but she volunteers for her and unknowingly rebels against the government. Even though Katniss and Montag both defy their governments in different ways, they both have a negative view on the higher power.
Katniss and Theseus find themselves in similar situations that there are many literature parallels throughout both of their stories. Volunteering as a tribute for a cruel game like situation and come out as a victorious “hero”, both have to play along as if they love someone they don’t, and have people help them along the way. The only way to know how strong you are is not always a physical strength but mental or emotional strength also.
Some similarities are obviously that they are both slaves who are trying to escape their misery. The characters also have a good relationship with their fathers because they taught them how to care for themselves and what to do when they need
The poem starts with an audacious statement: “He fired God” (George line 1). From the very beginning, the speaker exudes confidence, pride, and sass that captivate the reader. The entire first stanza is full of this kind of cheekiness and word play. Instead of boringly stating that Prometheus stole fire from Olympus and gave it to the humans, the speaker metaphorically says that Prometheus “plagiarized the fire, / and published all the flames in the hottest how-to / book of the season” (1-3). This analogy nods to George’s literary practice and the “how-to book” concept provides a convenient way of describing all the things Prometheus can teach humans to do with fire such as cooking and making armor. The sentence also demonstrates the silly and obvious humor that makes its way
You would think Katniss wouldn’t dream of teaming up with a child, but she has. Rue is so similar yet so different from Katniss’s younger sister Prim which is partly the reason why they have teamed up. They surprisingly make an impressive duo and they work so well they’ve become partners in crime. The song presented is lighthearted and connects to the scene very well because at each other’s side they feel safe and secure. They both know the situation they’re in is life or death, but that doesn’t stop them from doing as much as they can to hurt the Career tributes of 1, 2, and 4. The piece also tells how both people in the song care for each other and treasure the bond they have made, much like Katniss and
A common theme that’s developed in The Giver, by Lois Lowry, and The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, is that people need their rights and freedoms. In both texts the citizens have no power nor rights. In The Giver, if people make honest mistakes they are released, a nicer term for being killed, not to mention they have no trail, and this is only one right the citizens don’t have. The receiver of memory is the only person in the community that sees what is wrong, because they have the memories of the past. One receiver, Rosemary, kills herself so the memories would go to the citizens, and influence them to rebel. Although she failed because she did not have enough memories to give the people, she influenced the next receiver, Jonas, to give
‘The Odyssey’ by Homer, ‘The Aeneid’ by Virgil and ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee were written in different eras, were produced for different audiences and contain heroes which displayed different beliefs. Though produced in different time periods, the narratives share some striking similarities and resemblances. They focus on male heroes, typically who are (in some way) more inclined compared to the ‘average mortal’. Atticus is very intelligent, Aeneas is a great leader and Odysseus is remarkably courageous; all three narratives deal with the trials, challenges and achievements of the hero.
For example Kate and Kat were similar as their both independent and intelligent individuals who go by their own morals and don't care what anyone else thinks of them. Bianca in both texts is seen as the object of desire' as of her submissive manner and good looks. I used similarities like these ones all throughout 10 things' with only making minor changes.
There are many qualities within certain characters that help them in their quests. Though the characters may vary, the journey and the characteristics, in the end, are similar. Katniss and Odysseus both experienced the epic hero cycle and display similar characteristics. In the Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen was a girl whose purpose was to find a way to support her mother and younger sister. That is until she took the place of her sister as a tribute in the Hunger Games, an annual game held by the ruling Capitol as punishment for previous rebellions. The only way out of the games was to kill. In Homer?s The Odyssey, Odysseus was a war hero who was trying
In the legend of Perseus and in Percy Jackson they both have the same plot type. They talk abou many of the same topics. Even in the modern re-telling they are similar.
Throughout time humans have struggled with the unknown, with the fear that once life is over nothing remains, that the only thing awaiting them is oblivion. To combat these fears we create various religions, belief systems, and faiths to reassure ourselves that we are not shouting into the void, that something will come out of our existence. Prime examples of these belief systems are Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Hinduism which emphasize a spiritual world. In dystopian novels, characters are often placed in situations without faith or religion such as The Giver by Lois Lowry, and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the removal of faith forces characters to rely solely on themselves and helps depict the hopelessness in their world. The erasure of faith leads one to believe that it is a selling point of our society and should be kept intact, which is why Octavia Butler’s use of religion is odd in the genre. In Butler’s novel Parable of the Sower the narrator Lauren Oya Olamina creates a new religion called Earthseed and aims to offer her society hope for the future while they suffer the corruption and disintegration of the only world they know. Parable of the Sower states the function of religion, and specifically Earthseed, is to unite people in a single hope as the world goes to hell.
During The Hunger Games, Katniss lit fires to lead other districts in the opposite direction from where she was going and Rainsford from The Most Dangerous Game lead footprints in the opposite direction from where he was going. They both also had used high grounds when sitting or sleeping in a tree in order to hide from their predators. While out in the woods having someone hunt you, you have to be fast acting which is exactly what both characters did in there individual stories. When getting chased by a herd of dogs he made another trap to try and slow down the dogs and later when the trap failed to catch a dog, he made the decision into the sea. Now katniss was fast acting when The Hunger Games first started she immediately got water and set a food trap, also when someone attempted to shoot her with an arrow her first reaction was to move and that's when her alliance Rue was hit the arrow instead if Katniss. So, while doing these tactics in order to survive it shows that they both portrayed the trait of intelligence and knowledge while out in the
In Fahrenheit 451, Fire symbolizes both destruction and renewal. The phoenix is a symbol of renewal because it is consumed by fire due to the bombers but then rose from the ashes. This is showing that if you keep books which hold lessons from the past we can prevent destruction in the future. This is represented in this quote, “But every time he burnt
Character is a big area where Romeo and Juliet and The Hunger Games have a lot of similarities and differences. One big similarity is the love triangle between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale. It is a lot like the love triangle between Romeo, Juliet, and Rosaline. Romeo is in love with Rosaline in the beginning, and so is Katniss to Gale. Then later Romeo fell in love with Juliet, and Katniss fell in love with Peeta. One more big difference between the two stories is how in Romeo and Juliet they might have loved each other only for their beauty, for example when Romeo is describing Juliet, “But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?” –Romeo. Another ...
They both take place in a dark and futuristic world and have a leader or leaders that they must follow and if not, there must be extreme consequences...even death. As Equality and Liberty fall in love, so do Katniss and Peeta. In my opinion, a dystopian society is a lot like our world today, just at a more drastic level. Dystopian literature is basically giving us advice through another teenagers perspective. It is an indirect form of advice that could be anything to with love, conflicts with other people, or even things like school. We learn a lot about oppression in both of these stories which causes us to really think about it and makes us look into the future to see what it will be like in reality.
