Similarities Between Beowulf And Rey

Many hero’s have an epic journey, for example, Beowulf and Rey, they both have major events. Rey grew up in a desert planet called Jakku and family left her and she doesn’t know why. We know that she dreamed that her family would return for her. We learned about her background by her flashbacks and context clue.

Rey finds BB-8 and Finn helps them both get back to the Resistance to deliver information to find where Luke Skywalker. On the planet where she finds Maz Kanata, Rey is looking around as she found a lightsaber that belongs to Luke Skywalker. Touching it makes her vision her future. Her future shows her fighting Kylo Ren. (Star Wars The Force Awakens).

Rey’s first steps on her journey consists of her refusing to follow Destiny and

as she runs into the woods, the First Order attacks again. Kylo Ren captures Rey and takes her to the First Order. Kylo Ren, and uses the force to makes her tell him how to find Luke Skywalker, but she resists it.
Han Salo talks to Kylo Ren and tells him to turn to the resistance.

While, trying to escape Finn and Rey encounter Kylo Ren. Finn tries to hold him back off while Rey runs. Rey has to fight Luke Skywalker. Rey grabs Luke’s lightsaber, but she is not a strong fighter. Rey and Kylo Ren are fighting as she gives him one final hit, knocking him to the ground before the ground breaks about separating them. She had to win against him. After Rey’s call to adventure, when she helps Finn and BB-8 escape her planet. after the First Order attacks trying to find BB-8 who has the information, she runs into Han Solo and Chewbacca. They begin to help each other, and becomes a father figure, (“Star Wars The Force

Rey’s special weapon is the lightsaber, its’s special because it was Luke Skywalker’s and she can see visions with it. She didn’t earn it, the force caused it to come into her hands. She found the lightsaber in the basement. (“Star Wars The Fore Awakens”).
The most intense part of Rey’s journey is when fights Kylo Ren. She isn’t very strong, she stubbles back. She finds her strength and begins officially fight Kylo Ren, and now they are equal in strength. (“Star Wars The Force Awakens”)
Rey doesn’t return home. Rey is a changed person because at the beginning of journey she was weak and not powerful. Now, she is stronger and powerful. She can fight off anyone who comes in contact with her that she sees as a threat. Her former identity was a weak girl. She had to handle things she never had to handle before. She took charge and got things done. Also, she didn’t know how to drive a spaceship but she did it anyways. (“Star Wars The Force Awakens”)
Rey is collecting items to trade in for food on the planet on Jakku.

They both went through this step, the call to adventure. Rey’s call adventure when Finn sees BB-8 and she begins to attack him. Finn and Rey were attacked by the First Order. This is one quote from Beowulf describing the call to adventure, ”Beowulf, Higlac's Follower and the strongest of the Geats- greater and stronger than anywhere in this world- heard how Grendel filled nights with horror and quickly commanded a boat fitted out.” Beowulf gained his assistance from the men he brought with him from Geatland. The next step was departure. Beowulf leaves with a boat of treasures. Rey gets to see what the force can do. Rey is able to keep him out of her mind, as well escape from captivity. Beowulf returns back to Geatland. Rey is able to return to the resistance. (Stars Wars The Force Awakens).
One quote I like from Rey is when she is speaking to Kylo Ren, “You’re afraid. That you will never be as strong as Darth Vader.” This quote would be an example of transformation because it shows how she is transforming into a different person. Another quote in Rey’s journey is, “I didn't know there was this much green in the whole galaxy.” (The Force Awakens)
As an epic hero, Beowulf is played as similar characteristics of Superman. In this poem, Beowulf is close to failing, and he never really had the opportunity to be a leader. Comparing to Rey’s journey, Rey’s life would never be the same after meeting BB-8.

In conclusion, I compared the Rey’s journey to Beowulf. I compared the steps of their journeys. Rey gains assistance from Han Solo, Finn, Chewbacca, and BB-8.
