This paper will discuss similarities between 9/11 and Pearl Harbor that describe the Presidential responses to the attacks, as well as investigate the roles that class, culture, religion, and nations of superiority played in these attacks on the United States.
Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese it was a military attack on a military target. The attack on World Trade Center was a civilian aircraft against a civilian target. The targets were different for the two of the events. In 9/11, World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the White House were targeted. In both events, thousands of lives were lost. In the attack on Pearl Harbor, 2,400 people died within a matter of hours. In the attack on 9/11 3,000 people died. The people that died were all innocent during these events!!. The 9/11 and the attack on Pearl Harbor were both surprises for the nation. These both events were attacked by people from another country such as; Pakistan, Syria, Japan, and other countries. These attacks have in common that 9/11 and Pearl Harbor are facts, that the attacks were unprovoked, without benefit of a declaration of war on U.S. soil.

all Americans and hundreds of fighter planes were soaring through the sky, attacking every single thing that moved, it destroyed thousands of important items and most importantly, people's lives. In History.com mentions that “The Japanese managed to destroy nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight enormous battleships and more than 300 airplanes.” Thousands of people died on the Pearl Harbor attack and they didn’t get to say goodbye to their loved ones. How many people died in the attack you ask? More than 2,000 American soldiers and sailors died in the horrifying tragedy. They sacrificed their lives for this country. After the Pearl Harbor attack, president Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan. Two years into World War II, the United States finally joined due to the attacks on Pearl Harbor. On September 11, 2001, the morning was busy as usual in New York. People were doing their regular routine. At 8:45 AM, a American Airlines Flight 11 crashes into the North Tower of the World Trade Center tearing a gas hole in the building and setting it on fire. At 9:03 AM, a second hijacked airline, United Airline Flight 175, crashes into the South Tower of the World Trade Center and soon explodes. The second plane shifted slightly taking with its wings, 8 floors with people inside of it. People ran for cover trying to escape from the fire and chaos. Some of them were also trying to find their friends, relatives, and coworkers. A third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, hit the Western side of the Pentagon, just outside of Washington, D.C.. The fourth hijacked plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed down in a field in rural Pennsylvania never reaching its final intended target. Many innocent Americans lost their lives during the tragic attack on 9/11. These both have similarities such as that many people died and suffered in Pearl Harbor, 2,335 military personnel died, including 22,008 navy, 109 marines, and 218 armies.
A total of 68 civilians also died on 9/11 making the grand total of deaths of 2,403. On 9/11, irreplaceable documents, records, art, artifacts were destroyed along with 3,000 American lives. People were trying to make sense out what had happened. People were also fearful and worried for their lives and their families. According to History.com mentions that during in Pearl Harbor, “The assault, which lasted less then two houurs, claimed the lives of more than 2,400 people, 100 wounded and demaged or destroyed hearly 20 american ships and more than 300
airplanes”. People witnessed on grounds were dressed in suits, jump out of the windows from the two towers to their inevitable deaths. They had no way out, they were trapped so they decide to risk their lives. They lost their lives and people around the world live on T.V. saw that many innocent Americans lose their lives due to terrorist attack on New York. In wichita.edu mentions that “First of both of these events were addressed the problem immediately and told everything how it was without sugarcoating stories but at the same time they were both comforting and assured everyone that they would retaliate and have their vengeance”. FDR, who was president during the attack on Pearl Harbor, said “I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7, 1941, a state of War has existed between the United States and the Japanese Empire.” The man who provoked the 9/11 attack was Osama-Bin-Laden. Everything that he did in New York and the entire U.S, everyone was in shock. They started to cry because they saw people jumping from the towers. He is credited for being the mastermind in the 9/11 attack, but he did not act alone. Five other members checked in and boarded American Airlines flight 11. The attackers who helped Osama-Bin-Laden were; Atta, Omari, Satam Al Suqami, Wail Al Shehri, and Waleed Al Shehri. The attackers knew how to fly the plane in the first place by going to school in South Florida. They only learned the basics of flying a plane. Others were well trained in subduing people such as a pilot or anyone else that wanted to stand up against them. They claimed that they would gladly die for their religion and country. One of them was even an architect and studied the structure of the items and to understand how they worked. We have been told that these men were crazy religious fanatics. The media and the government spokesman assured Americans that the attacks were unprovoked and uncalled for. They said it had nothing to do with the government supporting Israel. The presidents said that they attacked us because they are afraid of our Americans values and freedom. The last thing they want the American people is to know that the unconditional support of Israel led directly to the 9/11 attack. In 9/11 Commission Report, chapter 2 mentions that in 1998 an interview of Osama-Bin-Laden stated that “Muslims in Palestine have been blasted and assaulted and robbed of their honor and property” (p.47-54). Their house been blasted and their crops were destroyed. In the USA about 83 percent of Americans are affiliated with a religion. Religion controls everything people do such as the opinions of others, the way we act toward each other, our actions, what we do, and how we live our everyday lives are controlled by some sort of religion affiliation. They are spiritual and they don’t believe in God. After all, America is the land of freedom of religion, but it was founded on Christian beliefs. The US government holds a lot of things that they are not telling us because they want us to believe all the lies they feed us through media. Some volunteers that helped after the 9/11 attack got really sick and were not covered through their health care insurance or from the government even though they helped clean up the pile of mess that was left over. I believe that not all the people like the US, that’s why people from other countries are attacking our nation because they want to get their revenge in one way or the other. The US is holding more information about what really happened on both of the events. Sometimes our history can be based in order to make U.S. a better nation that is why the government has done its fair share of damaging the Middle East and other countries. I think that innocent people shouldn’t have to die in these attacks.
Previous to the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour on December 7th 1941, tensions had been forming between the USA and Japan in the pacific. The US had cut of most supplies to Japan with the fear of Japanese expansion. The conflict that had been escalating between Japan and China since 1937 had the US treating Japan with great cautiousness. They had been monitoring Japanese Americans in anticipation of a surprise attack. However the attack on Pearl Harbour still shocked and outraged the American nation and affected the American psyche. After being assured that “a Japanese attack on Hawaii is regarded as the most unlikely thing in the world”(1), the sudden mass destruction of the U.S Navy’s Pacific fleet and deaths of roughly 2400 U.S soldiers and civilians as a result of such an attack undoubtedly lead to confusion and racial hatred amongst many US citizens. The assumption on the War Department’s behalf that Japan’s Navy were incapable of launching a full scale assault on the US Navy’s chief Pacific base was more than inaccurate. As a result, the US Naval base was unprepared and was quickly taken out. A hidden bias would soon become evident in both average civilians and higher positioned government officials. This bias against Japan aided in the formation of the Executive Order 9066, signed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) on February 19th 1942.
The author of this essay is Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He was the president of the United States at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. The purpose of this speech was to inform the entire United States about what had happened the day before at Pearl Harbor. The nation was to be warned that the United States was going to declare war against Japan. The intended audience is everyone in the United States. President Roosevelt ef...
The attack on Pearl Harbor, on December 7th, 1941, was and still is an event that will forever be deep-rooted in the mind of every American. After the tragic surprise attack on American soil by the Japanese, Americans throughout the country were looking for a sense of unity. The President at the time, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, recited a moving and powerful speech the day after the attack. Although the speech was specifically targeted at the Members of Congress in an effort to persuade the declaration of war with Japan, the speech was also written to be televised to the entire country. When the attack comes to mind, the powerful speech that mustered the nation together slowly follows. Every famous speech uses specific rhetorical devices in order to persuade and convince the intended audience. FDR’s use of ethos, pathos, and logos, successfully triggered the emotions of all U.S citizens and effectively provoked the idea of America declaring war on the Empire of Japan.
The Battle of Pearl Harbor was one of the most atrocious events that happened in U.S. history. On December 7, 1941, Japan made a surprise aerial attack on the United States naval base and airfields at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. More than two thousand Americans died and a thousand two hundred were wounded. Eighteen ships were badly damaged, including five battleships. The next day, President Franklin Roosevelt with the support of the Congress, declared war on Japan. It led United States’ official involvement in World War II. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because of a deteriorating relationship with the U. S. The “New World Order”, expansion and resources, and economic sanctions were factors that conducted to another disaster on the Second World War.
This paper will compare Gordon W. Prange's book "At Dawn We Slept - The Untold Story of Pearl Harbor" with the film "Tora! Tora! Tora!" directed by Richard Fleischer, Kinji Fukasaku, and Toshio Masuda. While the film provides little background to the attack, its focal point is on the Pearl Harbor assault and the inquiry of why it was not prevented, or at least foreseen in adequate time to decrease damage. Prange's book examines the assault on Pearl Harbor from both the Japanese and American viewpoints to gain a global view of the situation and the vast provision undertaken by Japanese intelligence. The film and book present the Japanese side, the American side, the events that lead up to the attack, and the aftermath.
These attacks both took place around the same time. 9/11 and pearl harbor were both attacked by planes. The United States joined world war ll when the Japanese bombed pearl harbor but the United States did not go to war when the attack of 9/11 happened. Pearl harbor was the start of war while 9/11 was a terrorist attack. Pearl harbor was sustained by the kamikaze and 9/11 was led by Muslims. Also, pearl harbor was against an army that was at war and 9/11 was against a terrorist group. Pearl harbor attack was led by soldiers while 9/11 was attacked mostly by ordinary/nonmilitary people. The war that was declared by pearl harbor lasted less than five years. 9/11 war against terrorism didn’t end until osama bin laden’s death in
Franklin Roosevelt struck people 's emotions with his patriotic and nationalistic quotes. “With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph – so help us God.” This quote strikes at the hearts of Americans filling them with a sense of pride and determination. President Roosevelt makes it clear that no matter what other nations will do to the United States, the American people will be filled with resilience and rebound to make the nation as great and powerful as it ever was. When the President speaks about the attacks on Pearl Harbor, his tone creates a feeling of anger. The feeling of anger is created when he states that the Japanese launched this attack with no warning. The Empire of Japan had its ambassador and a colleague meeting with the Secretary of State to give them a message that they didn 't want to continue to negotiate with the United States. The message however showed no signs of the forthcoming attack on Pearl Harbor. The President also creates emotions in the audience by his use of tone and emphasis. His tone is stern yet caring showing that he believes in the American people. It also shows that while the United States was attacked, he has faith that the American troops, citizens, and government will rally behind him to terminate the
The Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941 was one of the deadliest terrorist attack in America, said in the article, USA People Search (2015). This attack would be considered a terrorist attack because it was an act of violence used against people. To destroy property and/or to terrify or persuade others. As we talk about the Pearl Harbor attack, it made me recall another terrorist attack that we all remember, which is 9/11. It’s been an attack where planes were hijacked and hit the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Also including Pennsylvania. This event was marked as the most fatal attack in America.
The attacks on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 were the first attacks ever to take place on American soil, the repercussions were devastating for the Japanese Empire; sadly, Pearl Harbor would not be the last threat America faced on her own land. On September 9th, 2011 (9/11) a radical Islāmic terrorist group known as Al-Qaeda attacked America. While America dealt with both of these attacks with unyielding resolve, executing that resolve was what is starkly different between the two tragedies. Pearl Harbor did have some quintessential similarities to 9/11; both attacks unprovoked by America, both provoked public support against aggressors by way of presidential speeches, both lacked prior intelligence on the attacks themselves, both sparked Within hours of the attack on Pearl Harbor, hundreds of Japanese-American leaders forced into high-security camps such as Sand Island at the mouth of Honolulu harbor and Kilauea Military Camp on the island of Hawaii where they were held without counsel or knowing what charges levied against them albeit the obvious bombing of the naval base 5. The day after the bombing on Pearl Harbor President Franklin Roosevelt delivered his famous Infamy Speech to a Joint Session of Congress, the speech called for a formal declaration of war on the Empire of Japan, congress granted it within hours of being requested 6.
Soon after, Flight 175 attacked the South Tower. By the end of the day, both towers had collapsed and other hijacked flights had caused damage. The amount of lives lost on September 11 was substantial; 2,749 people from eighty-three different countries died from the attacks (Facts about the attacks., n.d.). All in all, America has changed forever. Research Many conspiracy theories have been developed concerning what happened to the World Trade Centers on September 11, 2001, but there are a select few that, similar to the truth, cannot be disproved without quite a bit of effort.
The bombing on Pearl Harbor impaired America, which brought an increase to racial tension. However, this impairment brought all nationalities together. “Thirty-three thousand Japanese Americans enlisted in the United States Armed Forces. They believed participation in the defense of their country was the best way to express their loyalty and fulfill their obligation as citizens” (Takaki 348). Takaki proves to us that the battle for independence was grappled on the ends of enslaved races. The deception of discrimination within the military force didn’t only bewilder Americans that sensed the agony of segregation, but also to the rest of world who honored and idolized America as a beam of freedom for

The attack on Pearl Harbor has been known to be a complete surprise. Whenever one thinks about it, they consider that it was. They may think that it was a total surprise except for a few small warning signs that our government seems to have ignored. Children are taught that Pearl Harbor is the "Surprise Attack on Pearl Harbor" in school. It has gone into history as this. Even the president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, said in a speech soon after the attacks it was, but he was lying. Franklin D. Roosevelt, in fact, and a few select top armed forces advisors working closely with him are directly responsible for the “surprise” of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Many opportunities to prevent and defend the attacks upon Pearl Harbor were never taken.
Pearl Harbor was one of the most motivational events in American history. From the very beginning Japan and America had their own social views and stereotypes about each other that a feud was bound to occur. On December 7, 1941 the nation of Japan sent out a fleet of their Imperial navy to attack the American held base on the island of Oahu. Leading this attack was Japanese admiral Isoroku Yamamoto who was a militarily strategic genius.” Yamamoto was planning on sinking the entire American Pacific fleet so the U.S navy could be put out of the war for the time being and the Japanese navy could continue their expansion in the Southwest Pacific.”(book)(Gordon Prange 136-138)
