Characters, one of the most important things in a movie. After all, characters basically make up a movie. In the film “Spirited Away”, Chihiro, a 10 year old girl has entered a spirit world, trying to save her parents. It could be a dangerous journey, after all, humans aren’t allowed in the spirit world. Haku, a river spirit, tries to help Chihiro in getting herself and her parents home. There may be some obstacles, but Chihiro finds her way through, and saves her parents. Despite the amazing adventure, there are some similarities and differences between Chihiro and Haku. They were both brave and caring, although Chihiro was more hopeful than Haku. An example for Chihiro, is that after she completed her job by giving the Stink spirit a bath, which gave her a ball of medicine. She didn't know what it was, but she had a dream of her giving it to her pig parents. Later in the film, Haku was in his spirit form, and was badly injured. Chihiro gave Haku her ball of medicine, and asked the boiler man, Kamaji to take care of him, while she returns a golden seal. This represents caring, because Chihiro took care of Haku when he was injured, and gave him the medicine. Chihiro also returned the seal to save Haku’s life. In contrast, Haki helped Chihiro on her journey in the spirit world. He made sure that Chihiro got out with her parents safely. Another example, is when Chihiro met her parents in the pig pen, Haku gave Chihiro some food. When Chihiro saw her parents, she started to tear up, and promised to get her parents out. Haku gave her food to make her feel better, and to strengthen her. This is how Chihiro and Haku were both caring for each …show more content…
This was because Haku was helping and protecting Chihiro, so she can go home safely. For example, Haku showed Chihiro her parents, and gave her a card with her name on it. Haku said that Chihiro would need to remember her name, otherwise she could be trapped forever in the spirit world. Then again, Haku was trapped in the spirit world, because he forgot his name. During the adventure, Chihiro had a flashback of her falling in a river, and a dragon saving her. She remembered that it was the Kohaku River, and that Haku’s full name was Kohaku River. This could help Haku in getting out of the spirit world, because he could go to Yubaba and become free, but it is a mystery to never be solved. This means that Chihiro was more hopeful that Haku in getting out of the spirit world. This is how Chihiro was more hopeful that Haku. To sum up, “Spirited Away” is about Chihiro a little girl who is trapped in the spirit world. A river spirit by the name of Haku guided Chihiro in getting back to the human world safely. Using this film, there are some similarities and differences between Chihiro and Haku. They were both brave and caring, but Chihiro was more hopeful than Haku. While Haku was helping Chihiro, it was said that this was true love. But after Chihiro leaving, will they meet again, is a question to be
One symbol that got represented in both, the truman show and the giver, is the color red. It means passion, love and knowledge. Silvia had a red shirt on, and Jonas seen the red apple and Fiona’s hair. Another symbol that got represented in both is the river, or ocean, which means death, but also journey. In the giver, the little boy drowned and was never seen again, but in the truman show, truman almost drowned. But it got him away, to let him see the truth. One symbol that was different was in the giver it had christmas, which equaled love, truman’s world didn’t show

Obviously one example being Lennie and George, having such a close relationship but not even being related to each other. A critical thing to remember is how throughout the story “Of Mice and Men” George is always looking out for Lennie, knowing the ways of how Lennie always gets into trouble. This being undeterred by Lennie being killed by George, but for very generous reasons, one being Lennie may would have ended up dead or in jail, either way ending in a tragic circumstance. George knowing Lennie he could never survive in jail by himself, George decided to kill Lennie so he would not suffer for selfless reasons. As stated before “To a Mouse” has a theme of friendship, how both being immortal to each other but sharing the same struggles. Taking everything in mind we can see how even in two different friendships between distinct people, they can both approach the same theme in different

At first sight, the two main characters appear completely different, but we soon realize that their lives are very linked.
In each novel, Green and Steinbeck use the motif of friendship to illustrate a different theme. Green uses the motif of friendship to create the idea that humans can’t always determine the outcome of life. Hazel has many trials regarding her cancer, such as her breathing and the ability to make friends, as she is afraid of hurting others if she dies. Augustus becomes her friend when he is able to understand her pain: he never left her side again. In one instance, Hazel wakes up in the ICU and the nurse informs he...
Writing a story is pretty difficult. Writing a short story is even harder, there is so much that has to be accomplished; in both commercial and literary fiction! The plot, the structure, whether it has a happy, unhappy, or indeterminate ending. There must be artistic unity, chance, coincidence, rising action, climax, falling action. Most importantly there must be characterization. Characters make the story! “anyone can summarize what a person in a story has done, but a writer needs considerable skill and insight into human beings to describe convincingly who a person is” [page 168]
In the novel the Chi is a powerful spirit that determines a man's lot in life. One such instance is when Okonkwo was disbanded from his home for a Feminine murder; Clearly his personal god or Chi was not made for great things. A man could not rise above the destiny of his Chi.
The dog they rescued is a particularly prominent topic, a vestige of the past civilizations. In defiance of the treacherous environment, the dog managed to survive, a feat that even Lisa, the most cold-blooded of the three main characters, could not help but be “impressed by” (Bacigalupi 61). Therefore, the dog is a symbol of hope for the reader, an animal that is in the extreme, completely out of its element, and yet capable of surviving. As a result, nature’s idea of itself is astoundingly resilient, keeping certain species alive as an attempt to return to the normal state of the world. Even after horrendous trauma the natural world is still capable of a stalwart attempt at reclaiming itself. Accordingly, it is never too late to start fixing the damages and help nature’s cause, before allowing it to escalate to such a degree where the oceans are black with pollution and there is no room left for the humans of today. Chen could not help but notice that the dog is different than them in more than just a physiological nature; “there’s something there” and it’s not a characteristic that either them or the bio-jobs are capable of (64). Subsequently, the dog has something that the evolved humans are missing, compassion. In consequence, the author portrays the idea that the dog

The triumphant goodness of human life is evident in many character's lives as they overcome obstacles through their own determination and goodwill. Characters such as Carlo Guercio live not only for themselves, but to comfort others too as he ensures that he tells Francesco's mother that her son died peacefully. The generosity of many characters transcends timeframes as well as age barriers meaning that they help people through their lifetime meaning that more people than just themselves are able to achieve their aims in life.
In the novel Things Fall Apart, chi is a concept that is based around a character’s individual god, in this case, the character Okonkwo. A character's quality is determined by their fortune, whether it's a good or bad chi. The idea of the chi controls and determines a character’s luck or misfortune which can be seen in the novel through the Umuofia clan. The character Okonkwo has a strong relationship with his chi, while it helps him reach a new level of achievement. Okonkwo is introduced as a man who was never lucky, always struggling against poverty and minimal success (26). Okonkwo beat these hardships by working toward the title he deserved. While going through these difficult of times, Okonkwo achieved fame at an early age due to his determined attitude. His fame was due to his success as being the greatest wrestler in all of Umuofia. This was known not to be luck, but by having a good personal god, the chi. The Igbo people of the
Held (2005) suggests that there is a collective commitment to care of others. Individuals put themselves in a secondary role to benefit and promote the well-being of others. There is an emphasis on practice and value. Pettersen (2011) and Held (2005) contend that the ethics of care recognizes that the caregiver must also protect themselves while promoting a cooperative relationship. The practice of care is done by expressing empathy and working on an attitude and standards which nurtures morally satisfactory
For example, when the day of my 8th birthday had arrived, how eager I had been ! For hours, I had waited for my cake and my birthday. Finally, I looked at the shining candles and got ready to blow. Suddenly, I realized Kathy had already blown them! My mom had to relight the candles but, when I blew them it wasn’t the same at all! My sister just gave me a sneaky smile and I suddenly realized the best part of the cake that was meant for me, I snatched it back, but soon discovered the ice cream part was gone and there only was one piece of vanilla crust that I didn’t like. My mom told me not to waste so I ate it, Kathy just looked up at me innocently, no trace of guiltiness was in her
