The two short stories of “The Tell Tale Heart” and “The Black cat” by acclaimed author Edgar Allen Poe are a great example of what exemplifies the darkness a person can succumb to in certain situations. Both of these marvels share important realizations of thought and subconscious guilt’s to which are used as an example of how two different people in two different situations can have the same outcome in the way of committing murder. Anger and hatred become major factors in simultaneous tells. Thus, the topic for this discussion is to present the similarities and differences of these two short stories. Meaning that insanity is a key role and in this story as well. The guilt caused him grief and in an insane way hangs the cat from the tree. But as a result of this, later he acquires a different cat with similar traits which in time and alcohol made him insane as it reminded him too much of the pain he caused the original cat. With the guilt of what he had done, he grew extremely violent thus eventually attempted to kill the second cat, but while in such a furious state he murders his wife in the process. This is where both tales share a great similarity because both become the cause of death of two innocents. Both characters decide to hide the bodies of their victims to escape all consequences. In “The Tell Tale heart” the protagonist hid the body under the floorboard and in “The black cat” the man hid his wife’s corpse inside a wall. As the stories progressed, the police arrive to investigate and share the similarity in which both characters paranoia awakens. In “The Tell Tale Heart” the character makes his murder known to the police after he claimed to hear a heartbeat coming from the dead corpse and couldn’t bear the noise believing the police were aware of his crime. In “The Black Cat” the character does something similar when he hears a noise and the police discover what he had done as well. The cat was inside the wall where the corpse sat the whole time. With this, both characters were met with the same end result and ultimately were arrested for
