Robert Frost and Edgar Allen Poe Robert Frost and Edgar Allen Poe two amazing poets, who created many well written poems, for instance “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening”, by Robert Frost and “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe. These two poems have many differences and similarities between them. A big difference between Frost and Poe is there back ground but this is also a similarity, how they took their real life situations and turned them into poetry. Then, their life situations made their tone in “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening” and “The Raven” completely different. Frost and Poe both had a bad past with the lost of family members and relationships. But, how Frost and Poe took these situations and turned it into poems was very different. Frost took these bad situations from his life and turned it around in his poetry, he created positive poems. It’s like Frost took a bad thing and made it a good thing. On the other hand Poe took his life troubles and created negative poems. Maybe Poe just couldn’t let go of the past. There is a difference in tone in these two poems. In “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening”, by Robert Frost the tone is calming and determined. The poem is calming because the man in the poem is riding a horse on a snowy day and he is alone. The poems tone is determined because this man keeps pushing forward and has miles to go before he goes to sleep. In “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe the tone is dark and depressing, because the poem is about death and the main focus is a black raven when people think of a raven the first thing that comes to mind is probably something …show more content…

In Frosts poem two themes are isolation and choices. Isolation because the man is alone and wants to be alone, and the weather gives it alone feels because people don’t go out while it’s snowing alone most of the time. The other them in this poem is choices because the man has to choice wither to go home to the village or watch the snow which his horse disagrees with. But, in the end he choices to go home where it warm and where he can keep all his promise. In Poes poem the two themes are madness and love. Madness because the man in this poem is basically insane, he talks to a bird if the bird is even really there. Also love is a theme because he truly loved his wife and all he wants is to be with her. In both the poems there is a man and the real world theme in Frosts poem it’s snowing which kind of entices the man to stay and watch but he stays he could die from the cold. In Poes poem its night time and windy and there are spirits outside and they come in as the form of the raven. “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening”, by Robert Frost and “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe are very different but yet similar in some ways, for instance how they took life situations and turned them into poems was very different and similar.
