I take my headphones out for what feels like the millionth time, but like the past million times no one is talking to me. Sometimes I wonder if to them, I am just a charity case, the girl who had no friends and then they “adopted” me. I’m not the girl who sits alone at a table, no I’m worse than that. I sit at a table filled with girls who claim themselves to be my friends, but yet I sit listening to music and reading all throughout lunch not talking to them. We don’t text or even hang out after school, other than the occasional ‘hi’ I never even talk with my so called friends. I feel someone get up around me, and next thing I know everyone walking towards the doors, so my legs decide to do the same.

This demonstrates that she is driven to study for class and get good grades while her brother tries to convince her that school is worth nothing and that there is no point in attending. “‘Why don’t you get out before they chuck you out. That’s all crap,’ he said, knocking the books across the floor. ‘You’ll only fail your exam and they don’t want failures, spoils their bloody numbers. They’ll ask you to leave, see if they don’t’” (118). The brother tries to convince his sister that school is not a necessity and that living the way he does, being a drop out living in a poverty stricken family is the best thing.
Belief perseverance is defined by Meyers as "Persistence of one's initial conceptions, as when the basis for one's belief is discredited but an explanation of why the belief might be true survives." This phenomenon is readily observable and at many times throughout the film Prisoners of Silence. It can be observed in the man who discovered facilitated language, parents of autistic children, teachers, facilitators and even in the view of the film.

Fall. The leaves are falling, the air is getting brisk, the sense of spookiness surely does not go unmissed. It can be seen throughout town, but Busch Gardens’ Howl-O-Scream is the largest venue around. Howl-O-Scream is Busch Gardens’ alter ego come fall, there are monsters and ghouls inside the park and in haunted houses. Seeing the production as a guest simply puts one in awe, but much more appreciation for the event is felt by the employees. Members of the haunted houses, better known as the Scare Squad, appreciate the fact that they work in a historical park, provide guest with an array of emotions, and create a unique family-like dynamic with fellow cast members.
SCREAM starts out in the quiet country region of Woodsboro, California. The silence is soon broken by the ringing of a phone coming from the inside of Casey Becker's home. The conversation between Casey and the threatening Voice, eventually leads up to having Casey scared out of her wits and being gutted. Sidney Prescott learns about the murder, and also finds out it was almost as bad as the murder of her mother (Maureen Prescott), which occurred almost a year ago. The first stop was Monica’s class room. We walked through the never ending hallway, searching for Monica’s classroom like detectives on a mission to find a key to the unknown door. We found the Monica’s classroom and dropped her off. The next stop was mine. I found myself getting more nervous each step, I toke. Suddenly my mom and my dad stopped walking and told me that this was my classroom.
"Deafening", written by Frances Itani is a meaningful novel written by a talented writer. This novel demonstrates how people deal with war and having certain disabilities. Over the years this has occurred to millions of people who have become deaf or have had loved ones who depart to defend their freedom or others freedom. Frances Itani creates images, and contrasts them to show how there is fear and bravery with going to fight for someone's freedom and the frustration of being the loved one awaiting someone's return. Also the frustration of being deaf and having to deal with the uncertainty of your surrounding. This novel reminds us about the war time and how depressing everything is. We learn that faith and courage and friendship are ideal to continue on with disabilities and during a war.
Before my years in high school, I rarely put time and effort into studying and constantly associated with my friends at school; that is until I entered high school. The different competitive atmosphere at high school caused me to suddenly prioritize my studies ahead of everything else and my ambition became greater than ever. I began to interact less with my old friends and become less sociable with those around me. My parents also began to notice this drastic change and encouraged me to once in a while contact my old friends. During the beginning, I contacted my friends about two or three times a week, but the phone calls began to gradually diminish. I began to abandon my previous cheerful, ebullient nature in order to conform to the competitive, tense study environment at high school. As long as I successfully accomplished my goals and was accepted by others, I was willing to alter myself in order to assimilate into the mainstream environment. Through my hard work and perseverance, I was able to reach my goal and receive the acknowledgement of others; however, despite fulfilling all my ambitions, I did not feel any joy or satisfaction within myself. Even though I successfully accomplished my objectives in school, I realized that in return I completely sacrificed my social life. Despite being accepted by others, I began to feel a sense of loneliness and longed to

This quote can easily be associated with Hannah Baker, the protagonist of the book Thirteen Reasons why, written by Jay Asher. She likes candy, hot chocolate, blue nail polish, filling out surveys, and reading and writing poetry. Deeply romantic, she wants to find love, and is exploring relationships naturally, at her own pace. She's also smart, attractive, and friendly. Hannah had just arrived in a new town, new school, new people and was ready to start her life again, but what followed were the next three most miserable years of her life. She had entered her school with great expectations and a fresh look upon the world, but had found herself faced with great challenges and obstacles; she had to deal with being alone, fitting in, and not knowing who to trust. To overcome these problems Hannah had to go through immense hardships which developed her character largely; struggling with them developed her character in three instances: Her relationship with Justin Foley, the accident with Jenny Kurtz, and her very last interaction with Mr. Porter.
Who I think I am? I’m not exactly sure who I think I am or how to describe who I think I am. I tend to act differently around certain people. Constantly changing to try to seek approval. Constantly in fear of accidentally doing something wrong; that I might say something wrong and all my friends will abandon me or leave me for someone better. I think this fear came from when my best friend was taken from me. I had known her since preschool, but she had met another girl and she stopped talking to me completely. I’m in constant fear that this will happen to me again, so I struggle to be accepted. I don’t want to be forgotten again.
I walked up the long, stone stairs of Hidden Oaks Middle School. Middle school students were walking up the stairs alongside me and talking with each other. I joined this math club because I wanted to fit in and make new friends. We opened the doors and walked through the long hall filled with posters and works of students. We walked into Mrs. Janasky’s room. I sat down next to my sister and talked with her. The teacher handed us a piece of paper covered in math problems.
The start of a new school year as a freshmen in high school away from my hometown. Everyone is anxious for this new and fresh start meeting new people and friends. 11:14 p.m.-I slowly ascend from my small wooden chair, and throw another blank sheet of paper on the already covered desk as I make my way to the door. Almost instantaneously I feel wiped of all energy and for a brief second that small bed, which I often complain of, looks homey and very welcoming. I shrug off the tiredness and sluggishly drag my feet behind me those few brief steps. Eyes blurry from weariness, I focus on a now bare area of my door which had previously been covered by a picture of something that was once funny or memorable, but now I can't seem to remember what it was. Either way, it's gone now and with pathetic intentions of finishing my homework I go to close the door. I take a peek down the hall just to assure myself one final time that there is nothing I would rather be doing and when there is nothing worth investigating, aside from a few laughs a couple rooms down, I continue to shut the door.
Words and emotions can be communicated through the use of poetry and song. They can reflect hope, desire, melancholy or grief. In today’s modern world technology has majorly impacted the way people communicate and express their opinions and share beliefs. Even though times have changed, poetry and lyrics will always have significance in any situation. The Sound of Silence by musical duo Simon and Garfunkel explores the lack of communication between people. In poetry the theme of communication is conveyed more subtlety in the poems The Street by Octavia Paz and Milking before Dawn by Ruth Dallas. These three artists have effectively used poetry and song lyrics to express communication using different techniques. They are all both poetically effective and wonderfully written.
We listened as Mrs. DeCostia enumerated the names of those involved. “Kat, Tara, Kelly, Alexis, Rob, Joe, Matt, and John.” She announced with annoyance. How is it that all my friends got in trouble for the greatest prank in Fairfield’s 75 year history, but my name was left off that prestigious list? I watched my friend’s proud faces as they walked to the front of the room and I laughed as I heard Matt say “So you caught the people, who perfectly reconstructed your room on the roof of the school, but you will never know who the genius behind it was, and as long as that stays a secret, we’ve done our job.” Then Mrs. DeCostia grabbed him by the shirt collar and dragged him outside. Soon there was a wave of people standing and clapping for their hero, the only person to show Mrs. DeCostia what a horrible person she really was. Apparently since my name had been left off the list, they had no intention of revealing it. But still I got the greatest prize of all, even better than being called up there with them: knowing that it was my idea to take every item out of her room and put it on the roof. There was a loud slamming of the door and soon the classroom fell silent. “Whose idea was it?” shouted Mrs. DeCostia. She was answered by silence. “I’ll ask one more time: Whose idea was it?” She said, speaking ever so slowly to ensure he understood. This time she was answered by a deep voice that could only be recognized as John’s. “You’re never gonna know so you might as well give up now.” “Oh, I will find out and when I do that person will be expelled!
