"Cut your hair, already", some fifth graders said as they pushed me against the hard brick wall. I tried to argue with them, but then one of them punched me in the gut. I fell to the ground crying. I remember feeling so confused, trying to figure out what had I done to them.
People started crowding around, to see what was happening. Almost all the kids laughed at me, the older kids laughed because they were mean and the smaller ones laughed to fit in. Luckily, the bell rang and recess was over. I was truly "saved by the bell." I had put it off for too long; I had to tell my teacher about these bullies.I went to my teacher’s desk and whined to her, "Some older kids were bullying me in the playground. They told me to cut my hair.""You should cut your hair. So much hair is disgusting" she told me most spitefully.I went to my seat crying with anger, not to those bullies or my teacher, yet to myself for being, so weird.
I was now determined to cut my hair before the day was over. Finally the long awaited moment had arrived; the day was over and my Mom and Dad were waiting for me outside to go home. My dad asked me how my day was so, I told him about my horrible day. I told him about the fifth graders bullying me and the teacher’s malicious comment towards me. I told him that I wanted to cut my hair today, and that my mind was made up. Understanding my situation my parents headed towards the closest barbershop.
On the way to the barbershop I started looking at my parents, with their uncut hair. And I asked them why we had to have uncut hair. My parents stopped the car and they told me everything about my religion and why we don’t cut our hair. My parents told me that a saint named Guru Gobind Singh Ji first formed the Sikh religion.
God told him that he was to make a new religion, a religion, in which the members have uncut hair. Now as I look back at what my parents told me; I understand that the Khalsa was founded not only to have a religion where nothing that god gave to us was changed. People weren’t supposed to cut their hair because God gave them hair and what he gave shouldn’t be changed.
Sikhism is the world's fifth largest religion. Sikhism is one of the younger faiths of the world, as compared with religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity or Islam. It is a monotheistic faith, preaching the existence of only one God, and teaching ideals that may be universally accepted today and in the future: honesty, compassion, humility, piety, social commitment, and most of all tolerance for other religions.
The sweat was dripping down my face as I pushed the weights off my chest. Everyone ran towards their bags after a student said there was a gun in school. Twitter was the first source that we checked just to make sure. Boom! The door slammed open as coach Ben yells “Hurry up and get out”. My heart started beating faster and faster. We didn’t know what was going on. As we were running to the gym everyone was panicking and pushing each other. I could feel the burn on my elbow but I didn’t know what it was. When we got to the gym my elbow was covered in blood. We were told to get down and stay quiet. Later on we were told a student brought a gun to school and was planning on committing suicide. That was one of many gun incidents at my high school.
parents, grabbing me by the ears, made me kneel down in front of everybody and
Religious beliefs provide structure for people who are facing illnesses and seeking health, during time of crisis. The health care industry is rapidly responding to the ever-changing population through continued education. Health care works are faced with multiple dilemmas that require thought and fast-acting decisions. Challenges of providing medical treatment to people of different religious backgrounds may be altered. All members of the health care team need to address the issues and concerns regarding specific health care practices and religious beliefs and remove their perspective from the situation. The following paper will discuss three different religions while incorporating a comparison of beliefs, perspective on healing and the perspective on health care to that of the Christian Religion.
I was a typical 6th grader with a love for social time and hatred towards pointless homework. As I was tapping my foot on my creaking wooden desk with my book opened pretending to read, Mr. Daniels was watching over me like a bird that just gave birth to chicken eggs. I had a feeling she was going to ask me a question about what I was reading. I realized from that point on to always trust my instincts. Mrs. Daniels tall toothpick shaped body leaned over and asked me to summarize the first chapter in front of the whole class. Due to not even beginning to read the first page I told her I did not even know where to begin. Since I was not prepared for class, not participating, and being rude about my task at hand I received a punishment. My punishment was every week I had to write a summary in my own words about the chapter I had read. My eyes rolled in the back of my head so far I didn't know if they would ever go back to normal. I knew my life was over at this
The novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse details an ambitious young man's journey to spiritual enlightenment, along with descent into lust and greed midway through the story. In essence, Siddhartha's hubris, or sense of pride, prohibits him from becoming an enlightened figure, establishing the theme that obsession with self-worth cannot bring peace. To begin, Siddhartha's desire to fulfill every role he comes across comes as a result of his excessive pride, which acts as an antagonist to his journey. In the exposition of the novel, Hesse establishes Siddhartha as an ideal Brahman who successfully completes every task that his role requires. However, his unsatisfaction with his role, indicating his inflated sense of self-worth, causes him to defy the wishes of his father and
As a young kid in the fifth grade you don’t really consider the other kids feelings that you have help contribute upon putting down and making fun of until you are forced to see all the hurt you have caused to that individual. It was on a Friday afternoon school was getting ready to dismiss when a couple of kids and I surrounded and made fun of one individual I knew the decision to do so was wrong because it felt wrong but I decided to do so anyway because I didn’t want to be on the receiving end. As a result to being involved in the bullying I was giving detention that next Saturday morning by one of my favorite teachers which made me feel even more ashamed of my actions, the next morning I attended my detention
Chen. Another teacher followed up, he was the 6th graders’ PE teacher I suppose. I stood back up, and I wiped off the little blood coming out of the wound on my lip created by the 6th grader’s scratches while he was on the ground. Mr. Chen took me and my classmates aside, he asked: “What happened over there?” One of my friends answered: “ We were playing basketball at the court first, then they came, and want us to leave the court for them to play. Michael refused, so he punched him, and they just got in a fight.” “Michael,” he then turned to me, “ Even though it is just self-defensing, but you could’ve just run and find me to solve the problem, and you won’t get hurt, why didn’t you do that?” I looked into his eyes, and I said determinately: “I can’t be a coward in his memory, I have to show him what I got, so he won’t try to bully me next time I see him in this class. Plus, a man won’t run from a fight.” At the end, I did not get in trouble for fighting, and those 6th graders have never mess with me again.
Angel again, in second grade. In the same cold, hard voice, in front of the entire class, she had expressed his discontentment with my choice of people to hang out with that day. I was sitting next to a group of less than stellar students in class. My interactions with them were rare, if not nonexistent, before that time. Candidly, I didn’t know much about them. I was naive and didn’t realize that I was being pulled into a deep abyss of nonchalance and ignorance and those students were the culprits. Shell-shocked, I obeyed blindly.
Riley tackled the jock, revealing the identity of the other kid; it was Keith. Riley mounted the jock and started wailing on his face, Riley was tall, 6,4 to be exact, which restricted the jock from pushing him off. The jock was screaming and crying, his face was a bloody mess. Riley had an evil frown on his face while unleashing the flurry punches on the guy. Not long after this, teachers started pouring into the crowd and pulling Riley off the jock, I looked around for Keith but couldn't find him no where. The kids left and sat at their tables. Riley and the jock were dragged out of the lunchroom by the teachers, since all of my friends were no where in sight, I decided to skip school. I went to the spot me and the guys always hang out at, It's an abandoned bridge in the woods, we always smoke and drink there, and talk about how much we hate ourselves and how much we hate others. When I got there I encountered Keith, he was wiping blood off his face and having a smoke, cursing under his breath. I walk up to him and make conversation. "Hey man, are you okay? It looked pretty bad out there". "Nah man, I'm fine. The fucker got in my face and started talking major trash, I didn't even say a fucking
When I was in sixth grade I was told by teacher that I wasn’t necessarily “strong” enough for the task she needed done. I felt insulted and useless at the time. I thought offering to help carry a desk down the hall was a nice gesture and it turned out not to be. She told me she wanted to wait for “some big strong boys to get back”. I didn’t understand why, but that didn't sit right with me. I wondered why I wasn’t good enough. I thought I was just as capable as the “strong boys”. I’m not the one to speak up for myself so I sat in silence. I’ll never forget this because I didn't feel good enough.
At ten, during recess, kids were racing, and playing games. As for me, I usually find it extremely strenuous to make friends. So, I was sitting on a slow moving swing, facing the school, and sketching the building on my sketch book. That’s what I revel in doing. One day, a classmate came up to me and asked to take a look. Then, he seize five pages, and ripped all in halfs. I wanted to slap him in the face,
It was sixth grade. Kids all around. Sun beaming on the playground and all over the outdoor basketball court. Unintelligible yelling and cringey dancing anywhere you look. I didn’t want anything to do with any of that chaos. I saw that there was nobody on the

It was just another day of my life. The fourth ring of my alarm woke me up. As usual, I was not feeling to go in school. I slept a couple of more minutes. After while, the shine of the sun coming from the window woke me up.I slowly stretched my arms and slid out of bed. I brushed my teeth and took the shower. Downstair,my mother was calling me for breakfast.I was still undecided what should wear for school. After browsing for while I found something to wear, and finished getting myself ready for school. When I checked the clock, I was running late as usual, which was not a surprised. I quickly ate my half sandwich and left the rest of the sandwich on the table.I took my car key, jump in my black Lexus and made my way to school.During my way to school, I got a call from my friend John. John is my best friend since when we were in middle school. He told me that his car was broke down and he needed to ride to school. Fortunately, my friend house on my school way. I told my friend.
