People tend to think that anyone who has trouble interacting socially has Autism, but this is not the case. There are specific signs to look for when attempting to find out if someone has Autism. These indicators will appear at specific times in a person’s life. Autism Speaks notes that Autism can be identified in children as early as 18 months, but most signs don't appear until the ages of 2 and 3 years of age. Autism is often paired with other health issues such as "gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, seizures, sleep disturbances, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety and phobias" ("What is Autism?"). The timing of a person’s inability to interact socially along with these other health issues can be a strong indicator of Autism. Meaning they have difficulties communicating effectively or even at all. They struggle in social setting and don 't typically excel in social games or activities.

Children at a young age might not be interested in simple common games such as peek a boo, and may not like to be held. They also may seem to have problems with their hearing ability. The child may not seem to be able to hear you and does not respond, but when hearing a distant noise like a truck or train, this will get their attention immediately. Teens with autism seem to start changing their behavior. They may seem to excel in certain skills but with that their ability to understand and relate to others expressions. They also seem to have more of an issue understanding and going through things with emerging sexuality and puberty.

Autism is characterized as a developmental disorder that is seen in children by the age of three years old. Autism affects the brains normal, natural development, and causes many impairments. The major impairments that affect an individual are reciprocal socialization, Qualitative impairment in communication, and repetitive or unusual behavior. Signs of Autism can be seen in early infanthood, with proper awareness and resources. An infant child can appear to be adverse to eye contact early on. Some signs in early infancy appear as being indifferent to affection and physical contact. When spoken to, they can appear to be deaf or ignoring the parent or caregiver. Noticing the early red flags of Autism can provide an early intervention and give the child the best chance at learning to tolerate their environment. Observation Summary Alex is 4 yr. old boy in a pre-program. He has been diagnosed with autism and is currently taking speech therapy. I had the chance to observe him inside the classroom and in the playground areas. He is in a classroom with 16 other students.

Some of these delays may include social, emotional, and adaptability problems. Throughout this paper I will be discussing signs of autism, accommodations for autism, autism in the school’s, frequency of autism, and also how I would teach this child.
