In William Shakespeare's play “Macbeth” the symbol blood represents the guilt that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth felt. The effect of the guilt on Lady Macbeth and Macbeth had them acting insane and resulting in more pain and conflicts. The guilt lead Lady Macbeth to sleepwalk and terrified people in her home. She also took her life because she could not deal with the guilt and pain anymore. Macbeth felt the same guilt but, he was haunted by the ghost of Banquo and went insane. All of this guilt was because Macbeth and his lady listened to the sinister witches,

The impact of the guilt had destroyed his life. Macbeth had wanted to be the ruler of Cawdor and he talked to the evil sisters. The sisters had told him that he needed to kill some people in order to become king. So, Macbeth did and the guilt of killing them caused a massive change in his personality, and attitude. He became frantic and ruthless. He talked to the witches and the three apparitions. The first apparition was armed head, the second was a small, bloody child. The last apparition was a child who came into the scene with a crown on his head, holding a tree in his hands. Both apparitions claimed that Macduff is coming for Macbeth. “Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware Macduff. Beware the thane of Fife. Dismiss me. Enough” (IV.1.74). He said he had saw the ghost of Banquo and eight other kings. When Banquo came back to haunt Macbeth, he came back in the bloody clothes that he was wearing when he was murdered. Banquo and the eight kings circled Macbeth and Macbeth was terrified. Yelling and screaming to leave so he could be at peace again. This took place during a dinner the Macbeth’s hosted and the guests were shocked and confused.
