I have had the privilage of working with children all my life and have loved ever moment of it. My teaching experience have allowed me to place my students in Festival of Arts and receive Gold. I went to the ice cream social and invited my cousin who's deaf, she lives in Turlock and her name is Nery. Her boyfriend, Robby, wanted to come along but he got busy cutting hair, he's a barber. I mention him because he is also deaf. He's been using a hearing aid since he was small and took therapy sessions as well which makes it seem like he's hearing. American Sign Language, or ASL, has come a long way since it first originated. Before the language was established in the United Sates by Galludet and Clerc, the deaf didn’t know any of the established sighs and were not being taught anything. If the family had money, the deaf were sent off to an asylum. Once ASL was taught, Deaf people were being forced to learn how to speak verbally—many were not even allowed to sign and had to sit on their hands or hands were being slapped with rulers.

In 1620, a man named Juan Pablo de Bonet created American Sign Language because he wanted the deaf to be educated on how to communicate with each other to express their thoughts. Exposure to language is very important during the first few years of life. For most hearing children, exposure to language starts at birth. Children who are born deaf may not have exposure right away. Because 90 percent of the Deaf children are born into hearing families with little knowledge of the Deaf world, many of these deaf children will not have early access to language. Although these children are unable to process an auditory mode of communication, used by most hearing people, they are able to process a visual mode of communication. American Sign Language offers a visual mode of communication that can benefit the acquisition of language for deaf learners.
The organization follows two selection methods for all teaching vacancies—an informal and formal interview. Teaching is a complex occupation that requires as much empathy and emotion as it does educational skill. I had always dreamed of becoming a teacher, and realized after having my own children, that I would not truly be fulfilling my purpose in life if I did not pursue this dream. As a volunteer at the elementary school in my community, I loved the environment and took tremendous joy in watching the children learn. I felt that I had the ability, along with the dedication and desire, it would take to become a full time educator. To achieve this goal I will strive to give my students a positive beginning, provide confidence in their individual abilities, and prepare them for different aspects in life.

Teachers may not make the most money or have the most respected profession, but it is a job that is always needed. Teachers have helped encourage so many of the world’s brightest people; so many people have admitted that they wouldn’t be where they are today without the support from that one special teacher. I want to be that special teacher, the one who goes the extra mile for her students and pushes them to be the best they can be. But most importantly, I want to be able to teach my students to be worldly and independent. For Robert Hutchins once said, “It must be remembered that the purpose of education is not to fill the minds of students with facts…it is to teach them to think, if that is possible, and to always think for themselves”.
Abstract—Sign Language is the language used by deaf and dumb people for communication in their day to day life. Every nation has its own sign language. Indian people use Indian Sign Language. Generally other sign language such as ASL (American Sign Language) and BSL(British Sign Language) is single handed sign language while ISL is the language which uses both hands to make signs. So it is difficult to exactly classify and recognizes those types of signs. The work presented here focuses on recognizing Indian sign language where Fourier descriptor is used for feature extraction and classification is achieved using neural network.
I feel that my eclectically blended views on teaching will make me a rare teacher in today’s world. I’m not afraid to make friends with my students and work with them person to person. Children need the time and extra concern from someone, and who better than their parent away from home, the teacher. I want to give my students chances that I didn’t have in school, the chance to get on track early in life. True, I had a truly inspirational teacher that cared and was concerned, but no one ever thought I could do it. I want my students to get this support, this drive, and this motivation early in life. I want my students to make all they can out of what they are given in life. As I stated previously, even if I reach just one student, one solitary student, then I have made my difference. I have changed the world.
When I think about becoming a teacher, I think about how I can make the world a better place. I know I can’t do everything to change the world, but I can do something, I can teach.
