Children Refugees
War is horrific, contagious, and deadly. In Sierra Leone war led to armies taking advantage of the young children refugees. As stated by Ishmael Beah, from “They Fight Like Soldiers They Die Like Soldiers, “I am so deeply troubled because the usage of children in war continues and international and national mechanisms to prevent appalling phenomenon-and to hold accountable those responsible for such acts-remain weak” (p.ix). More and more children refugees are being stolen from their families and taken away to live a life of a soldier. The government of countries like Sierra Leone are not taking any action to protect these children from being victims of war. It is inequitable that the boneheaded criminals who are taking the freedom and liberty of the innocent children to war are not getting consequences; therefore, the corrupted government have an obligation to take proper action to punish these boneheaded criminals. The removal of children soldier from their families to fight war has had major catastrophic impacts on the children such as: emotional effects, physical effects, mental conditions, destruction of families, and post-traumatic stress disorder that carries into adulthood. Due to all the exposure to the child soldiers at war makes a significant impact not only temporary but also lifelong throughout as an adult. Undoubtedly, these child soldiers returning back home after war can be difficult to adapt and cope as an adult in the civilian society because of the fear and nightmares as a soldier. This can be seen in Sierra Leone and other countries where children are unprepared and terrified of their life being at risk for working the protection of others.
