In 2005 the Penguins selected the 18-year-old Crosby as the top pick in that year’s NHL draft.
Expectations were high for the young player, who drew numerous comparisons to Gretzky. By the end of his first season , Crosby had become the youngest NHL player to score at least 100 points (goals plus assists) in a single season. Sidney Crosby has done many great things for Canada, One of the most memorable one was “The Golden Goal” at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, when he won the gold medal game in overtime for Canada.
Also another big thing that Sidney Crosby has did for Canada is that he has grow up in Canada and went all the way to the NHL and has become the greatest player in the world. Sidney winning the game for Canada in the 2010 Olympics was a big impact on my life because the way he pushed for his goal to one day play for Canada and strive for his goal is very inspirational and i think every kid growing up playing hockey has taken effect from this great
athlete. If I were to compare Sidney Crosby to somebody else that has impacted Canada i would compare him to Terry Fox. This is because he had the goal to run across Canada to raise money for cancer and he did it. So i think he relates to Sidney because they both had goals and they both achieved them. Sidney Crosby has affected my in my life because he set a goal and he achieved it so now i think i can achieve my goals because he achieved his. He kinda pushes me to achieve my goals and do anything because he puts the mind set in my head that anything is possible, you just gotta want it bad enough.

To this day, he still holds the record for the most times that specific award has been given to an individual (Getz). Wayne Gretzky was a leader, and although his character as a person cannot be measured by mere statistics, he sure has some outstanding

Just reviewing all the achievements, accomplishments and awards Waynehas received, you can truly understand why Gretzky has received the name "The Great One", and why he is the greatest Canadian hockey player to play the game.
...socially by removing racial barriers and uplifting women’s rights. Also economically which helped us get out of the great depression by the war production Canada created. Last but not least politically, by making Canada a more independent country and giving Canada a recognizable identity. If the war didn’t happen we would still be a country that didn’t have much power or an identity and still be stuck behind racial barriers. We wouldn’t still be in the great depression but the great depression would have been much longer if it wasn’t for the WW2.Canda went through so many changes but not as many as it did during this time. All aspects of Canada were impacted and changed because of this war. The war was such a horrific event but out of the horrific event a great country grew and prospered. Now Canada wonders, would Canada be who it is today if this war didn’t occur?

He experienced joy, pain, satisfaction and disappointment through it, but ultimately, he let social pressure overcome his spirit and change who he was meant to become. Hockey allowed him to physically and mentally mature as a person, but it was the sport itself, at the end, that led to his destruction. His journey as a player is a clear representation of the racism that is still unconditionally present in our community and that has to be overcome in order obtain social equity in sports and other recreational
To become successful you need to earn and work for it. According to Malcolm Gladwell the book outliers “Canadian hockey is a meritocracy… You can’t buy your way into Major Junior A hockey. It doesn’t matter who your father or mother is, or who your grandfather was, or what business your family is in. Nor does it matter if your live in the most remote corner in Canada. If you have ability, the vast network of hockey scouts and talent spotters will find you, and if you are willing to work to develop that ability, the system will reward you. Success in hockey is based on individual merit—and both of those words are important. Players are judged on their own performance… and on the basis of their ability…” He emphasizes that to get to success you need to work for things. If amateurs accumulate to not work for things then they will never be successful
The most memorable moment in hockey history came thirty-four years ago with the 1980 Miracle on Ice. The Americans defeating the dominant Soviet team at the Olympics was not only an important triumph for USA Hockey, but for the entire nation. Contrary to popular belief, the underdog win was not only the result of a miracle; it was also the result of a hard-working team led by Coach Herb Brooks. With increasingly negative views on the position of the United States in the Cold War, the Miracle on Ice and the gold medal win lifted the spirits of the nation and brought hockey into the American spotlight.
Before the 1980 Winter Olympics began, the US Olympic hockey team was not expected to do as well as they did. They had many powerhouse teams to beat and the team was just a bunch of college kids who wanted to play hockey. In the end, they had performed one of the greatest upsets in the history of hockey by defeating the USSR, the whom many thought of as the greatest hockey team in the world.
The defining moment of the importance of hockey in Canada was “The Goal of the Century” in 1972. It was the evening of September 28th; the site was Moscow – U.S.S.R. In the midst of the Cold War, a game-winning goal by Canadian hockey player Paul Henderson at the end of the third period with only 34 seconds left on the clock vaulted Canada to a victory at the Summit Series and put them on top of the hockey world. The heart and character of Canadian hockey internationally began. “The exact moment of that spectacular goal has become a reference point in our national collective consciousness.”- R. Eagleson (Foreword). It was the climatic goal watched by almost every Canadian, and their pride swelled to amazing heights. Hockey is more than just a game in Canada, it is a celebrated history. Hockey is Canada’s identity. “Hockey captures the essence of Canadian experience in the New World. In a land so inescapably and inho...

Montreal soon became the hockey capital of the world. The team of Halifax had come west with the practice of putting fishing nets on the back of the metal posts that served as goals. These were the first goal nets ever born. Hockey’s popularity let to serious money making for the owners, the Stanley Cup is basically a huge financial success, getting the attention of large crowds who paid good money to watch the games. Also the sport led to major gambling and under the table deals that were made for some serious money however all the money that was being made almost never went to any of the players, That all changed in when great man named Jack Gibson, was born in Ontario in 1880 and a hockey star there, Gibson’s team was given a new arena to play and practice in by a local business man James Dee he was a great man he made a lot of money but it didn’t come easy he grew up poor and his dad had a farm that he worked on but he decided that he didn’t want to work on a farm for the rest of his life so entered all his money on the stock market and it paid big
