Sidney Crosby is one of the top 10 best in the NHL, and I intend to learn about how he did it. How did Crosby become interested in ice hockey? Well when Crosby was a young child his father,Troy, a goaltender was drafted to the Montreal Canadiens in 1984 but never made it into the NHL. So that made a big influence on crosby, since his father was a goaltender for the Canadanies. Next question, did Crosby learn to skate at an early age? Well in fact he did, Crosby started skating when he was only 3 years old! Talk about a natural born. And now that got me wondering since he only started skating at the age of 3, did that make him good when he was a little older? Yes, by the age of 7 he incomparably outdid himself talent-wise
Wayne Gretzky began skating at a very early age. According to “Wayne Gretzky Biography,” “he learned
Born in August 4, 1921, Maurice Richard was the eldest of eight children of Onesime and Alice Richard. Maurice’s parents moved from Gaspe region to Nouveau-Bordeaux so that his father could work as a machinist at the Canadian Pacific Railway. He started playing hockey when he was a young kid and he was good in boxing as well. In 1937, a young Maurice Richard at age16, was dropped out of school and worked with his father as a machinist and that was his only income other than some income in the winter with the senior Canadiens.
Even when he was a tyke, Wayne was playing in leagues several years older then him and he was still racking in the points. When he was only 10, he played in his hometown hockey league in Brantford and parents could see this little boy had a talent. Scoring over 350 goals and over 100 assists (www.upperde ck.com/athletes/waynegretzky/profile) in that single season, it seemed he would be setting records for the rest of his life. Gretzky played a very short year of junior hockey, before being drafted into the NHL where he started his astonishing career and began collecting goals, assists, and his many unbeatable records.
In an article titled, "This "Miracle on Ice" is considered to be the single most incredible moment in all of U.S. sports history. When coach Herb Brooks was made the team's coach, he spent a lot of time reviewing and searching for the right people for the team. Seeing as Brooks was the last man cut from the 1960 U.S. Olympic team, He wanted to do everything he could to win gold for his country. Once try outs started Brooks knew who he wanted on his team after one day. All of the players trying out were in college. The United States and Herb Brooks had picked their Olympic team after the first day of a week of try outs. After picking the team Herb had trained and prepared the team for the Olympics for over a year and a half. He had to prepare them for to face the Soviets. Brooks knew there was no matching them in speed, so he emphasized working on speed, conditioning, and discipline. Doing this my not make them as fast of the
The most memorable moment in hockey history came thirty-four years ago with the 1980 Miracle on Ice. The Americans defeating the dominant Soviet team at the Olympics was not only an important triumph for USA Hockey, but for the entire nation. Contrary to popular belief, the underdog win was not only the result of a miracle; it was also the result of a hard-working team led by Coach Herb Brooks. With increasingly negative views on the position of the United States in the Cold War, the Miracle on Ice and the gold medal win lifted the spirits of the nation and brought hockey into the American spotlight.
But, the most meaningful way I have connected myself to Russian culture is through ice hockey. I have played hockey throughout my entire life and many of my favorite players are Russian. I realized this connection when my teammates and I were watching the movie Miracle at a hockey tournament in Lake Placid, not in 1980 though. In the movie, it showed the Soviets having the best ice hockey program in the world at the time, while the young U.S. ice hockey program was developing. Throughout the entire movie, I was cheering for the Soviet Union because it was my homeland. But what I didn’t know at the time was that I was the only one in the room who had not seen the movie. During the first game that the U.S. played, the Soviets crucified the U.S. 10-3. … And then came the Olympics
Jaromir Jagr’s childhood was difficult and his family was struggling at that time. He was born in Kladno, Czechoslovakia. That was an ancient city of 80,000 people. Czechoslovakia, at the time had a communist government. Since he lived in a communist government he and his family couldn't afford luxuries but he insisted on playing hockey. As a child however he was an excellent shooter and had great hands. Still a youngster he wasn't the best skater but Jaromir Jagr was determined. To skate better he did one-thousands squats each day. He

After competing in the 2003 U-18 Junior World Cup, he represented Canada in back-to-back IIHF World U20 Championships, winning silver in 2004 and gold in 2005. At the 2006 IIHF World Championship, he led the tournament in scoring, while also earning Top Forward and All-Star Team honours. Four years later, Crosby was named to Team Canada for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Playing the United States in the gold medal game, he scored the game-winning goal in overtime.[7] He captained the 2014 Canadian Olympic ice hockey team at the Sochi Olympics, leading the team to a gold medal victory over Sweden.[8] In 2015 he led Team Canada to a gold in the World Championship in Prague, thus becoming a member of the Triple Gold Club and the only player in the club to have captained all three winning teams. In 2016, Crosby captained Canada to gold in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and was elected MVP by a unanimous
Bobby Orr began to skate at the age of four, and would always practice at Seguin River. He fell in love with the sport of hockey and began to play
I have been playing ice hockey since I was seven years old. By age ten, I knew I loved being a hockey goalie more than anything else. I dedicated my time to achieve my goal of playing at the highest level possible. Over the years, I worked extremely hard to learn my position. I took private lessons,
Bobby Orr did not look like anything out of the ordinary in appearance, he was of small to medium height, had brown hair (now grey), originally short, but let to grow), and was bulky. He also had brown eyes. He was a normal kid to see, that is until number 4 Bobby Orr, stepped out onto the ice!
Puck and Bottom behave very much alike, and have similar roles for different people. Both Puck and Bottom are comic relief characters in one way or the other. They were there to create atmospheres of laughter from the audience. Both of them are needed for the play, because Puck’s spirits controls the whole story, which sets the tone for it and Bottoms comic relief for the audience and
When looking at speed, it can be a relative question. If one is talking about speed in comparison to long distance than yes, speed skaters are faster. If one is looking at speed in the sense of acceleration, then ice hockey is faster. A video on YouTube created by CCM Hockey actually shows a professional speed skater pitted against an NHL hockey player to see who can accelerate faster. Shown in the video, the hockey player is able to accelerate faster than the speed skater is able to (CCM Hockey, 2014). A good comparison of this is when one is looking at how long distance runners run compared to short distance runners. Distance runners can maintain a speed longer while short distance runners can achieve their top speed
Most people learn to read before they learn to play chess, but for me chess was the first thing I was introduced to. My father first taught me the basics of chess in my birth place: Massachusetts. Short after my family and I moved to Cary, North Carolina where I live today. Here I would play chess for hours on end with nothing else to worry about. Studying chess, I would hone my skills and travel to tournaments on a regular basis during the weekends. Chess was my life, I would play upwards of five hours of chess a day with no school to worry about. All my effort led me to tie for first in nationals. Unfortunately, I was only in Kindergarten when this happened, now I have the burdens of school, friends, and my future to worry about. However, I still play chess as hobby and have improved tremendously since then. My love for chess grew as I got older, though I was not training as seriously, I started to appreciate chess and the strategy behind the game. Discovering similarities between a simple game and my complex life, chess began to define me as a person.
