Growth hormones are used to help growth and human development. Growth hormones are used on kids who do not produce the standard amount of hormones. Some can argue that growth hormones is helpful in advancing a child growth development. Moreover, since it is food and drug administration approve it then must be safe. Nonetheless, the after effects of growth hormones can have severe side effect on a kid. This position paper will address how growth hormone for kids has more disadvantages on kids’ growth and health. According to Herman (1993), the study that was conducted had eighty children; some receive a placebo while other received the growth hormones. The parents, children, and researcher did not know which child get which in till the end on the experiment. This study was to help children who could not produce their own hormones due to certain disease might have. According to Stanley (2012), the experiment began by testing children that may have growth hormone deficiency. Throughout the experiment twenty-eight of thirty-three children had not done well for testing. The children that did show growth hormone deficiency was giving growth hormone but shown not much of an improving. In July of this year, the FDA announced growth hormones, traditionally reserved for people with growth disorders, will be made available for use by children who are naturally short (Bailey). According to Bailey, “pediatric endocrinologists are permitted to prescribe HGH for children whose predicted adult height is below 4 feet 11 inches for women and 5 feet 3 inches for men” (Bailey). HGH is not a new drug; it has been used for years and prescribed for those with growing disorders. The number of patients for whom the drug is prescribed is expected to increase because of the new FDA ruling. The FDA ruling states use of the drug is no longer just for those with growth disorders (Bailey).
Going into details of the article, I realized that the necessary information needed to evaluate the experimental procedures were not included. However, when conducting an experiment, the independent and dependent variable are to be studied before giving a final conclusion.
Treatment is started at slightly different ages in different countries, but often at an age of about 6-7 years. In order to achieve puberty development and a body height of more than the average of about 146 cm, oestrogen and growth hormone must be given. However, the study does not specify some serious factors, such as family size, the structure of the family, the age of the participants and how long the study followed children.

If you are skeptical you may have to do your own research to see where the information originated. Do not believe everything you read just because it states it was from a study as it may not be reliable or truthful. Both of these studies had interesting information, however since they both were lacking sufficient data it was hard to determine if the studies were completely honest and adequate or not.
