Should To Kill a Mockingbird be banned from the high school curriculum? Should the 1961 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction award winning book be banned? There has been a lot of controversy about whether To Kill a Mockingbird should be banned in the High School curriculum, and this is absurd. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a novel that focuses mainly on racism, but also includes many themes, such as Good vs Evil, Education, social inequality, justice vs injustice, and many more. There are many important and beneficial things that come from this novel, and there are only few bad things that come from it. To Kill a Mockingbird is a great book that the good that comes from the it overcomes the bad, and from that, it should not be banned from the high school curriculum.
To Kill a Mockingbird is said to be racist and include a lot racial content, but this is false. Isaac Saney, a faculty member at Dalhousie University believes To Kill a Mockingbird should be banned because it is a racist book. It is a great novel that has a lot of deep and powerful meanings. It talks about a very important topic and that is racism. It shows that racism is a horrible thing, and that is destroys the idea of justice and it divides a community. High school kids are surrounded by foul language. Almost every high school kid curses, and a lot of them say the n word. As a high school kid myself, surrounded by this foul behavior from these kids, it doesn’t seem at all wrong that the book includes the n word. This word was used a lot in that during that time period. No book is perfect they all have their faults.
