Child abuse is the physical, mental, or sexual assault on a child. Child abuse is a serious crime that may be undetectable as seen in this case. Recently, a local media station reported on a child abuse case that occurred in California. Thirteen kids were held captive by their parents in horrendous living conditions. For this reason, Louis and David Turpin should receive life in prison because they starved, isolated, and chained their children to their beds.
There are many reasons why the Turpins should be charged and sentenced life in prison. The first reason is that they starved their children and cause them to be malnourished. When a child is not fed over a long period of time it causes them to become malnourished. This affects them drastically

The Turpin children were allowed to bathe only once a year and if they washed their hand above their wrist, they would be chained up as punishment for playing with water. This abuse caused the children to be psychologically damaged. The older children were too scared to escape because they feared for the lives of their siblings. Being chained up for supposedly misbehaving, not being able to shower for a year, and being beaten and choked would not only affect full-fledged adults, but it would severely traumatize a child. A logical appeal, in this case, would be that the actions of the Turpins are morally wrong. Parents are supposed to care for their children not mistreat them or torture them. These parents action caused six children and seven adults a great deal of pain. Now the children are forced to adapt to a world that they are not accustomed to. A second emotional appeal is that the victims felt obligated to stay with their family. Since the abusers, in this case, were the victim’s parents their children probably felt as though they had no other choice but to stay (Park). The constant threats, punishments, and manipulation that the children face daily was enough to discourage them from finding
The term child abuse was once as rarely heard as that of pink elephants. However rare the term has once been, it is now a term used consistently throughout the news and various other publications today. Along with the progressing decline in society's morals, has come the rapid increase of crime. One such crime is child abuse. Although child abuse is common, the act is defiling. As a result of the abuse, children who fall victim to this often need psychological treatment and counseling. Often, the child is never the same as he or she once was before. The dictionary defines child abuse as: "the physical, or emotional, or sexual mistreatment of children" (Dictionary.com). Everyday thousands of children are the victims of this abuse. The abusers range from parents, friends, total strangers, to even day-care workers.
What is child abuse? Child abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, cause injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. It happens every day, where a child is being abused. National Football League runner back Adrian Peterson was accused of abusing his 4-year-old son. “Peterson has said he never intended to harm his son and was only disciplining him in the way he had been as a child growing up in East Texas.” No one has the right to tell you how to chastise your child but, there are other ways to go about the situation. You may never mean to harm your children and the way you discipline them may be considered child abuse to others.
Through diction, the tone of the poem is developed as one that is downtrodden and regretful, while at the same time informative for those who hear her story. Phrases such as, “you are going to do bad things to children…,” “you are going to suffer… ,” and “her pitiful beautiful untouched body…” depict the tone of the speaker as desperate for wanting to stop her parents. Olds wrote many poems that contained a speaker who is contemplating the past of both her life and her parent’s life. In the poem “The Victims,” the speaker is again trying to find acceptance in the divorce and avoidance of her father, “When Mother divorced you, we were glad/ … She kicked you out, suddenly, and her/ kids loved it… ” (Olds 990). Through the remorseful and gloomy tone, we see that the speaker in both poems struggles with a relationship between her parents, and is also struggling to understand the pain of her
David suffered physical, mental, and emotional abuse from the age of four to 12-years-old. As his teachers and principal, neighbors, and even his maternal grandmother and father stand by and let the abuse happen, it makes me wonder what they could have done differently. For example, David’s father saw the abuse firsthand and he would try to intervene to help him out initially. David’s father was caught by the madness of his wife in calling him, ‘the boy’ and ‘It’. As much as his father tried to comfort David, he did not have the will to stand up against his wife. Another example, the maternal grandmother commented on bruises visible on David’s body and she did not take action to report her daughter for abusing her grandchild, David. Instead, David’s grandmother stated that she should stay out of it and let David’s mother raise her children as she saw fit. I believed the unreported instances observed by the public to be just as substantial a crime as the child abusers themselves. Also, the Department of Children and Social Services were contacted because of the alleged child abuse events that occurred previously; however, he was not taken from the home because the social worker of the agency sided with David’s mother. The social worker did not complete a thoroughly
Carol Tavris was born in 1944, and got her PH.D. in Social Psychology. That is why she has so much credibility in this field of study. This essay wouldn’t mean anything if it wasn’t coming from someone who has the background and the credibility she does. A strong example of emotion is when she talks about Rodney King and the savage beating he received. It again shows how people in groups act different. There were 11 officers watching 4 of their colleagues beat this poor man. What were they thinking? Did they agree? These are some of the questions you have to ask yourself. One explanation, of course, is that they approved.(18). They may have identified with the abusers, vicariously participating in a beating they rationalized as justified.(18). This is sad but true, but what about the Kitty Genovese story. She was stabbed and killed in front of her apartment, while 38 neighbors heard and watched, not one called for help. This is called diffusion of responsibility or social loafing which pretty much means the more people in a group the lazier everyone gets thinking that someone else will do the right thing. This is just another example of emotion in Carol Tavris’s writing.
...s very immoral at the time and took something from them they can never get back. On top of their robbed childhood they were forced to deal with the emotional trauma, which was something they could never get away from. What they went through as children will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
as Jennifer, a victim states, “I feel our childhood has been taken away from us and it has left a big hole in our lives.”
They no longer had adults to tell them what and how to do things. The story just proves that when people are irresponsible and freedom gets abused, very bad things can happen. God has given us as human beings free will. Although if we make choices based on our own free will, we must be willing to take the responsibility for the effects that our decisions have on ourselves, on the people around us, and on society itself. Freedom, I believe, is the way in which people live or behave without others annoying or interfering in their affairs.
Child Abuse is something that children all around the world have to deal with every day. Child abuse can cause physical and mental affects on a child. It occurs very frequently and can happen for many different reasons. There is a law now stating that reporting child abuse is mandatory and you should report it immediately. There are thousands of child abuse victims every year. The abuse usually can leave permanent damage on the rest of the child's life. Child abuse is a very serious crime, and affects children everyday with positive and negative affects.
Child abuse, while having many different forms and levels of severity, can be basically defined as the maltreatment of a child by a parent or other adult. When one thinks of child abuse, usually the first thing that comes to mind is physical harm, but the issue is actually much more complex. The abuse of a child can also be manifested in verbal and emotional forms, as well as in sexual molestation. All forms of child abuse generally result in similar emotional disorders and behavioral issues, but the major consequences of sexual abuse, such as mental or emotional scarring, promiscuity, and the tendency of former victims to become sexual abusers, cause it to be the most severely damaging form of child abuse.
My reaction change because the children thought there was removing in with loving and caring home but they didn’t. The stepfather started touching one the crown Indian sister named Lana. This was disappointing to me because Mrs. Billing knew about it what her husband was doing to Lana and didn’t believe Lana when she discloses this information. I just do not understand how could Mrs. Billing could that to her when she saw it happen. I thought these children were moving into a loving and caring home but in the end, they weren’t. In addition, my reaction changed for the two brothers that had gotten struck by the train. My reaction changed because I felt like the father had something to do with these kids
Child abuse is an issue within society that effects the lives of not only the victims but also the lives of many people in the social order. Child abuse is any mistreatment or neglect of a child that results in non-accidental injury or harm and which cannot be logically explained. There are several forms of abuse and neglect and many state governments have developed their own legal description of what constitutes child maltreatment for the purposes of removing a child and prosecuting a criminal charge. Child abuse consists of different forms of harm including physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect.
Child abuse refers to lack of care or any type of emotional, physical or sexual mistreatment that results in emotional damage or physical injury to a child or a youth. In most countries, children are considered to be anyone below 18 years of age. Child abuse can occur directly by harming a child or indirectly by failing to prevent the child from any form of harm or injury. Child abuse can occur either in the family set up, in the community set up or in an institution such as a school. Also, children can be abused by adults or by other children or by people who know them or people who are complete strangers to them.
The first reason why death penalty should be allowed and get more active is life sentence is costly. According to “What is the Average Cost to House Inmates in Prison”, the average cost of housing an inmate in the U.S. was $31,286 in 2012 for per year. According to the “Who, what, where and why”, the United States has roughly 2.4 million people in prisons. Therefore, the money which America pays to keep prisoners who are in prisons is about $75120000000 for per year.
Child abuse is a very serious problem that continues to happen all over the world. The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, defines child abuse as a failure to act as a parent or caregiver which results in physical/emotional harm, sexual abuse, and in some cases death. There are many different types of child abuse such as emotional, physical, neglect, and sexual. With each type of abuse there are warning signs you can spot before it is too late. When a child is abused there is a huge possibility that it can cause them to have many long term effects.
