Steroids Steroids, should they be allowed in sports? They should not be allowed in sports because research shows that steroids are bad for health. An example of why they’re bad is Tommy Simpson died from excessive amphetamines when taking them during the 13th stage of the Tour De France (Abuse). The cyclist, whose motto was allegedly "If it takes ten to kill you, take nine and win," took Steroids and worked hard until his body shut down (historical). Another example of why they are dangerous is Ken Caminiti told Sports Illustrated that “On May 28, 2002, article titled Caminiti Comes Clean that he used steroids during his 1996 National League MVP season(Santa Clara)”. He estimates that half the players in the MLB were also using steroids. Caminiti later died of a heart attack at age 41 on Oct. 10, 2004(Santa).The reason he died is because that he doped to much and doping causes all kinds of bad substances to be put into his body. These substances can be harmful and even in the worst cases they can even be fatal …show more content…
The answer to that question is also straightforward. They make you bigger, faster, and stronger And they work perfectly well in anybody who's training heavily. Should athletes be allowed to make this claim? Many say, "It hurts only me, so why would society care? society cares because steroid use is a form of cheating(Historical). Since steroids work so well, they create an unfair advantage because they put stuff into the user’s body giving them an advantage over the other opponents Even if there were no harmful steroids it would still not be allowed because not everyone can get ahold of them. People need to have a fair advantage when playing sports and other events and these type of things are a competition and if one person uses steroids than everyone else would have to use them to make it
Many athletes use steroids to become stronger and improve their ability to play their sport. Certain players believe there is nothing wrong with using steroids. Athletes who excel greatly would normally be chosen to be in the Hall of Fame, but if using steroids, they should not be allowed. Steroids have many effects on people. Baseball players are big influences on children and teenagers, which could cause even more steroid use because of major league baseball players.
Steroids need to be allowed in baseball because it will bring more excitement back into the game. “Steroids will cause baseball players to build more muscle which means that they will most likely increase their offensive stats. The stat that it will mostly increase is the homerun” (Vass). People that watch baseball unless they are die-hard baseball fans do not want to watch baseball to see a team play a good defensive game. They do not want to see a low scoring game. They watch the game of baseball hoping a player will hit the ball four hundred and fifty feet out of the ballpark. They want to see a player come up clutch and hit a walk off homerun to win the game for their team and their ...
Steroids are ruining sports in the United States, and they are also going to ruin future athletes if the United States does not put a stop to it. Many young athletes in the United States are taking performance enhancing drugs because they see that professional athletes are doing it and getting results. These teenagers are using steroids because they want to look muscular and fit, but they are not aware of the negative effects steroids have on their bodies. Young athletes do not know that they are not only risking their careers but also their bodies. Steroids may make a person look muscular and fit, but at the same time, it is ruining their heart. Steroids also cause people to act differently and do foolish things like using other drugs. Parents can prevent steroid use by teaching their children about it at a young age and staying involved in their children’s sport lives. Steroids have ruined professional careers. They ruined Lance Armstrong, Marion Jones, and Barry Bonds’ careers and almost ruined Alex Rodriguez’s career. Professional athletes use steroids to improve their performance which is cheating. The game is not fair if someone is performing better by using drugs, and everybody should be performing with what they got. There are many different ways to achieve what they want in fair and healthier way. Many high school athletes are using steroids in the United States. They are not doing it under a doctor’s supervision; therefore, they are ruining their bodies without them knowing. Many of these athletes are looking at the outcome only and not what there are doing to their bodies in addition to getting stronger, muscular, and fit. All governing sport bodies in the United States need to take steroid testing seriously and give at...
Brandon McCann English IV Mr. Doherty 3/9/14 Research paper outline Performance-Enhancing Drugs in Football In Forbes Magazine, David DiSalvo’s article “College football steroid use is rampant and little is done about it” talks about the use of performance-enhancing drugs in college football and its rising use in football today. Everybody always bashes baseball and other sports for steroid use but nobody really cares if it’s used in football and many people are starting to question why. Another question that needs to be answered is how are these football players not getting caught by the many drug tests they are forced to take. In most cases it’s blatantly obvious that most of these players are on something. David’s article has opened many of the football fans eyes and people seek the truth behind all of this.
I personally think Performance Enhancing Drugs should not be allowed in sports for many unsafe and unfair reasons. PED’s are currently illegal and cannot be used. Many people agree with this rule and some
There are many problems with using steroids. One problem is that the person who takes steroids has advantage over the person who follows the rules and does not take it. Steroids help change a player’s ability from what they were before they took steroids. This is unfair to the player who has not taken steroids because the person that is taking them do not have to work as hard on their ability as the person who does not take them. Another problem is its illegal. This is a problem because even though it’s illegal players are still using steroids. This is not fair to the ones who are following the rules and not getting to play because of a player who is breaking the rules are getting better because of steroids not because they are deserving it. Steroids are also dangerous to take. Steroids can cause high blood...
My issue over the concern of athletes have been struggling with the usage of steroids has widely spread among athletes and others; not only do steroids give an athlete a hard times but it’s also an unfair advantage to the other athletes and what they’ve accomplish. “Besides making muscles bigger, anabolic steroids may help athletes recover from a hard workout more quickly by reducing the amount of muscle damage during the session” (“Steroids in Sports”,2005). Now a days steroids are everywhere as an athlete. Many males and female young athletes preferably take it because they want to look and feel good when it comes to impressing someone and trying to become someone they look forward too. Young teens and adults try to cheat themselves in the career of their dreams. When it comes to a sport, teen athletes are not aware of what type of consequences may happen to them at the time. It may come to the time where it’s too late to take care of. In other cases, some athletes may like feeling the aggressive they get when they take drugs such as steroids. Athletes shouldn’t take steroids as the harmful health effects of the anabolic steroid in population wise. Many people have had their lives ruined by the use of illegal steroids and yet the desired effects are overwhelming that people tend to forget about the results and consequences that may effect. Athletes on steroids believe taking steroids will enhance their performance, strength, and size without having to put necessary work. These benefits, however, are associated with much short-term and long term risk.
“ Well, when I think of steroids I think of an image. You have the advantage over someone, which is a form of cheating. I guess it wouldn't be right unless it was legal for everybody. Reason it's not legal for everybody is because it can hurt people seriously”. That was said by the athlete Evander Holyfield, athletes should never be allowed into the hall of fame if caught using the drug it causes many long lasting or even pertinent harmful side effects. Even though steroids can help you make huge improvements in the field of sports, any professional athlete caught using steroids should be banded from the league because it sets a bad example to the next generation of players, steroids also gives a unfair advantage over competitors or other athlete.
Steroids are being used more commonly today in normal people's lives. They are also being used so athletes can become stronger, but they have many consequences that follow the advantages. Most people believe that steroids are a false measurement of an athletes ability, and others believe that steroids are good because athletes can become stronger and make their sports more exciting to watch. This is a very important issue today because athletes today are using steroids to gain an unfair advantage over the other athletes.
Even though steroids are known as a somewhat dangerous substance, they are legal to have and to consume. There has not been a study that proves such possible side effects are linked to medical problems of steroid users (Rogak, 89). There are those who have pointed out several cases where someone has died and an autopsy has shown that the person was using steroids, but they claim this does not mean that it is a deadly drug as some medical professionals have stated (97). Some advocates of steroids believe that because steroids are legal, and because it is the decision of the user to take the drug, steroids are not causing a problem in society. Alcohol and cigarettes are consumed by millions of people, causing a lot of deteriorating effects on their bodies, but there has never been a ban on these items because of the dangers that they can cause. Why should steroids be different? Some people say that the wide spread use of steroids among athletes is forcing the young athletes to use steroids, even though it is against their standards.
Most people have an immaculate misconception about steroids, mostly because of the media. What they read on the internet or see on the news can influence their opinion. But what they don’t know is that the very people bashing steroids are the very same people using them. Almost every male athlete has at least one time in their life thought about how big they would be with steroids. If they’re serious about it, then the smart thing to do would be to look up what steroids are good for what they want to see enhancement in. They will then see someone commenting on how it’s bad for you and how it could negatively affect their well-being. Not knowing that a power lifter is on the other side of the screen using the same steroid he’s saying is “bad”. It’s for competition purposes, a smart steroid user knows to look up what supplement they are about to try. But, think if one user is already using that supplement and its working miracles on his/ her body then why give others the idea to buy the supplement?
Currently it is an estimated that at least 6.67 percent of high school seniors in the United States have tried steroids, which is 500,000 males between the ages of 17 and 18 (Anabolic Steroids). The pressure of steroids on teenagers is constantly drilled into their heads because they associate increased strength with perfection. Teenagers are under immense pressure to be perfect. Kids are pressured to do well in school, sports, and any other activities that they are participating in. Anything other than the best is unacceptable and failure which strikes and leads to disrespect. Failure has the sole purpose of tearing people from their self confidence and lending them to be insecure, questioning their abilities and themselves. It does not help that kids have role models that choose the easy way to accomplish their goals. It also sends a message to those who admire them that taking certain sacrifices to reach self-goals and standards are very much acceptable. Hard work and determination has become something of the past when it is possible to do the same amount of work and receive results faster if you just take a couple risks. Steroids should not only be banned from sports, but athletes who are found to have used steroids should receive a more distinct and severe punishment. No matter how it is said or defended steroids truly are cheating. Steroids are becoming a substitute for hard work and determination.
Many athletes are pressured into using PEDs by coaches or managers and are not thoroughly educated about the harmful health issues that can come along with taking performance-enhancing drugs. A rising issue is whether performance-enhancing drugs should be allowed in professional sports. I believe that in any professional sport, the use of performance-enhancing drugs by athletes should continue to be banned because this rule will help to keep athletes from abusing these harmful drugs. Steroids can seem harmless to the uninformed user, but they actually have harmful side effects. According to the article “News examines relationship between steroids and heart-related deaths,” published by New York Daily News, “The study (presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions in Chicago on Nov. 12, 2006) shows that deaths jumped from 476 from in 1980-1992 to 987 from in 1993-2005.
Steroids are more than just muscle enhancers. It goes into more depth than that. Athletes use them to get the advantage on their opponent but that’s all one really knows. What really happens with the users body besides going weak to strong? It’s the science that goes in to it that gives the user its physical results. Steroids have many effects on the body both good and bad, whether it’s becoming bigger or becoming less of a man or woman, literally. When someone makes the choice to use steroids, they are getting into more than they can imagine. Steroids change your body completely and can be more bad than good. Steroids have more effects than one may think and are definitely overlooked when it comes to being a medicine and a science rather than a performance enhancer.
Steroids have always affected athletes physically and mentally for the past few decades. Steroids users who are caught supplementing steroids should be banned from the event or sport forever, due to injecting a substance that makes athletes have inhuman strengths.
