Soda is the carbonated drink that many enjoy any time in the day. However, this drink is not helping your body. Therefore, soda should not be sold in schools because it is harmful to the brain, contributes to weight gain, and leads to diseases.
The brain is what makes you function so why would you take a drink that harms it? Students need to to be alert and ready to learn when they go to school but that's hard when their brain is being harmed. The sugar in soda limits brain chemicals that help us learn and retain information. If soda is sold in school then the students are not learning what their teachers are teaching. School is for learning and soda in school defeats the purpose.

The New York Soda Ban is a step in the wrong direction and efforts should be put towards making life better, rather than focusing on a movement that will have little to no effect. Realize that I am not stating the soda should be drank, because even I know that soda is harmful towards the body and is one of the leading causes of obesity. However, I believe that the soda ban will have little effect and that time and money should be applied somewhere where the act would have an effect of making life better. The obesity epidemic is one of the most pressing issues at this point in both American society and U.S. public policy initiatives. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention 35.9% of U.S. adults over the age of twenty are obese (CDC, 2013). The CDC further notes that 69.2% of U.S. adults twenty years of age and over are overweight (this percentage includes those who are obese). The obesity problem is not exclusive to the adults in the U.S. The CDC notes that 18.4% of adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19 are currently obese (CDC, 2013). These statistics illustrate the severity of the obesity epidemic in this country, but what can be done to address or even correct this problem? Many people have proposed solutions, but few are as radical as the proposal from Michael Bloomberg (the New York City Mayor) in 2012.
The article, Soda Consumption Does Not Equal Obesity, states that soda is not the only reason people are obese. When people are more active, they are less likely to have an obesity-related illness. Being active plays an important role because people are constantly burning fat, which makes it less likely for them to be overweight or obese. Economists from Emory University declare that soft drinks do not have a big impact on weight. The reason is that when untaxed, soft drinks only represent 7% of a soda drinker’s calorie intake.
Water makes up 75% of human body. It is the most important ingredient in our bodies. Today many people ignore drinking water and concentrate more into the carbonated drinks. One of the main reasons I would think people drink more carbonated drinks (such as sodas and sport drinks) is because of the way a company hype up their products and use their marketing strategies to influence people into buying them. Many benefits come out of drinking water. First, it quenches one’s thirst much better than any carbonated drinks. Second, it keeps one’s skin clear and healthy looking. In addition, it protects the human body from several diseases. Many people choose drinking sodas and sports drinks than water because water does not have much of a taste and carbonated drinks are flavored and tasteful. I guess I am one of those people who has being caught on to the hype of the soda companies. I do not really drink much water I would say I barely drink two cups a day, but I know the how good water is for my body. So I am modifying my behavior by adding more water to my diet.

Students should be allowed to have gum in school because it helps them. Chewing gum helps their brain and their education. And most of all, it helps them focus. Some people might say that gum is bad for your well-being, that gum in school shouldn't be allowed because it distracts people and it’s too messy and noisy.

The authority of sugary drinks becomes a growing problem everyday. Almost twenty percent of U.S. children and teens are overweight. But, there are ways to stop the obesity problem in the U.S. One way that we can stop the problem with obesity is to eliminate major soft, sugary drinks in schools in general. Bullying is an important thing that needs to stop, but with children and teens who are obese are struggling with being bullied. The bullying makes these children and teens are most likely to suffer from depression, lower their self-esteem, and make them antisocial. If schools do stop offering the major soft sugary drinks in schools, then it can help the children and teens to have a lower risk of developing different types of disease as they
I am in favor of the schools only selling and giving out healthy drinks to students. If they do this it will help with childhood obesity. If they give out caffeine filled drinks, I will not be able to sleep at night and I will end up having insomnia. I am young and still growing, but if I consume too much caffeine it can effect my growth and body structure. The number one killer of people in America is heart disease. It can be caused by consuming too much soda. If a person drinks too much soda they can end up getting a kidney stone. A kidney stone is a build up of caffeine, more than likely if someone drinks too much soda they will get kidney stones.
